(MATTOON) Eight area high school teams advance to the next level of competition by being among the top of those finishing at the WYSE (Worldwide Youth in Science & Engineering) regional held a week ago today at Lake Land College, just south of Mattoon. The next round will be the sectionals which will be held at Eastern Illinois University on March 8 in Charleston. The four teams advancing in the small school 300 Division are the champions from St. Anthony, plus Dieterich, Cumberland, and Okaw Valley. The two teams advancing in the 700 Division are the champions from Paris, plus Sullivan. The two teams advancing in the large 1,500 Division are the champions from Mattoon, and Charleston. The top sectional teams will then advance to the final round later this spring at the University of Illinois in Champaign. A total of 26 area schools competed in last week’s WYSE Academic Challenge at Lake Land, which included the battle in biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering graphics, English, mathematics, and physics.
