(NEWTON) The Wade Fire Protection District, based in Newton, has announced it is partnering up with the American Red Cross to install a limited number of free smoke alarms for those within the District who need a smoke alarm and for those who are physically unable to install a smoke alarm. Installing a smoke alarm is the first step to keeping families and friends safe and the local firemen and the Red Cross wants to help.
(NEWTON) The Annual Lincoln Day Supper in Jasper County is set for this Saturday (2/17/18) at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Newton. Starting with social hour at 6:00, the meal will be served at 6:30. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased from committee members or by calling 618-783-3185. There will also be a raffle for a Henry Golden Boy .22 rifle with custom serial #IL200YEARS. The rifle raffle tickets are $5 each or five tickets for $20. Several candidates will be on hand. All are invited out to attend the event.
(NEWTON) The Winter Jasper County Solid Waste Program continues now thru the end of March. The mid-week dumpster will be at the Willow Hill location this coming Wednesday morning (2/14/18), from 7:30 until 12:00, or if the dumpster is filled before 10:30, another dumpster will be brought to that location this Wednesday. The Newton / Jasper County Highway Garage location will be open this Saturday (2/17/18) from 7:00 to 3:30 accepting appliances (with requirements) plus the county’s drop-off recycling container also available.
