(NEWTON) The Jasper County Board met for its regular monthly meeting last night (2/15/18) in Newton. The Board : on an 8 to 3 vote with one board member absent, agreed to form an Advisory Board to give the complete County Board recommendations on how to spend gaming funds coming into the county : agreed to amend the county’s original Pictometry Contract to add a different projection for better viewing at no cost : approved a Cyber Security upgrade for the county which is free thru Homeland Security : agreed to remove two trees at the Courthouse that are causing sidewalk issues – the cost at $4,410 : agreed to move ahead with a feasibility study for energy improvements within county facilities dealing with possible solar, insulation, HVAC, and other such needed projects : approved the use of the Courthouse lawn by the Jasper County Chamber of Commerce for events in 2018 : agreed to pay half of the County Engineer’s salary per said agreement : approved two bridge aid petitions in Smallwood Township, one of which is on the Jasper/Richland County line with the cost to be split four ways : and approved the County Highway/Townships Intergovernmental Usage Agreement : also heard various reports from the respective departments and county offices : the Jasper County Board’s next regular monthly meeting will be March 8th, 2018, next month.
(NEWTON) The Annual Lincoln Day Supper in Jasper County is set for tomorrow (2/17/18) night at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Newton. Starting with social hour at 6:00, the meal will be served at 6:30. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased from committee members or by calling 618-783-3185. There will also be a raffle for a Henry Golden Boy .22 rifle with custom serial #IL200YEARS. The rifle raffle tickets are $5 each or five tickets for $20. Several candidates will be on hand. Everyone is invited out to attend the event Saturday night in Newton.
