(CHICAGO) The Illinois State Attorney General’s office joined 22 other attorneys general to file a multistate lawsuit to block the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) illegal rollback of net neutrality rules after the FCC officially published its so-called Restoring Internet Freedom Order, effectively killing net neutrality on April 23. The attorneys general re-filed their petition yesterday in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit against the FCC and the federal government after the FCC moved to dismiss a protective petition previously filed by the states on January 16. The repeal of net neutrality would allow internet service providers to block and/or slow the quality of certain content and charge consumers to access certain sites. No word as to when the lawsuit will be heard in court.
(SPRINGFIELD) Advocates for gun control have renewed their push to require Illinois firearm stores to get state licenses, saying the federal regulations to not go far enough to ensure sales are handled properly. It was last year that the State Senate advanced legislation to license gun dealers, however the bill stalled in the State House due to opposition from gun rights groups, who claim that licensing would increase the price of purchasing a firearm by as much as $300. The State Senate then advanced companion legislation to limit the cost of licensing fees to $1,000 for a five-year period. Look for more debate coming up in Springfield.
