(OLNEY/NEWTON) As National FFA Week comes to an end we continue to recognize all of our area FFA Chapters, their members, sponsors, and alumni for the countless hours given to make the agriculture education and FFA programs a success in Richland, Jasper, and all area surrounding counties. The Olney FFA Chapter members finish up their weeklong observance by helping with the “Bowl For Kid’s Sake” fundraising to benefit the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Richland County and its local mentoring program.
(OLNEY) The Young Leaders of Richland and Clay County Farm Bureaus are offering the second of three agriculture safety courses to area youth next Tuesday night, February 27, at the Farm Service Facility at the east edge of Flora, starting at 6:30. Area students are urged to attend the free event to learn more about safety issues around the farm. (NEWTON) The Winter Jasper County Solid Waste Program continues now thru the end of March. The Newton / Jasper County Highway Garage location is open today from now to 3:30 this afternoon accepting appliances (with requirements) plus the county’s drop-off recycling container also available. The mid-week dumpster will be at the Yale location next Wednesday morning, February 28, from 7:30 until 12:00, or if the dumpster is filled before 10:30, another dumpster will be brought to that location next Wednesday.
(OLNEY/NEWTON) With an urgent call for all eligible blood donors to get out and give blood, here’s the list of upcoming area blood drives : today at the Blood Donation Center in Effingham from 7:45 to 2:15 : tomorrow morning at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham from 8:00 to 12:00 : next Wednesday at the Blood Donation Center in Effingham from 12:15 to 7:15 : all blood types and platelets are needed.
The Runyon Family Relay For Life Team has a fundraising “baked potato bar” tonight at the Olney VFW from 5:00 to 8:00. There will be plenty of baked potatoes with loads of toppings, plus pulled pork sandwiches and homemade desserts. All proceeds go to our local fight against cancer to the Richland County Relay For Life and the American Cancer Society. Everyone is welcome tonight.
The Olney American Legion Post #30 will host a fundraising breakfast this morning with serving from now to 11:00. Only $6 per plate with carry-outs available. All are invited out to enjoy a great menu of biscuits, gravy, pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, and drinks while supporting our local Veterans.
The Noble Lions Club will have its annual breakfast this morning with serving from now to 11:30 at the Lions Club Building in Noble. The menu includes pancakes, sausage, biscuits, gravy, and drinks with tickets at the door, $6 for adults and $3 for children age 10 and under. All are invited out.
