(SPRINGFIELD) An Illinois House Committee has endorsed a revised hospital assessment program which distributes billions of dollars in Medicaid funding. The House Appropriations / Human Services Committee unanimously (14-0) voted yesterday on the updated formula, a plan that accounts for federal requirements that more Medicaid patients be covered by cost-saving managed care operations. Statewide healthcare officials say its good news because the legislation gives additional funds to the state’s neediest hospitals. The bill now moves on for consideration by the full State House of Representatives by later this spring.
(CHICAGO) Recent figures from the Illinois Department of Public Health show that more women appear to be traveling from out of state to have an abortion in Illinois, despite that total number of terminated pregnancies decreasing statewide. The December report indicates more than 4,500 women crossed into Illinois to terminate a pregnancy in 2016, an increase from just over 3,200 abortions provided to out of state women in 2015. The overall numbers show abortions in Illinois dropped from more than 39,800 in 2015 to fewer than 38,400 in 2016. While Illinois has been expanding abortion access in recent years, many of the Midwestern neighboring states are attempting to pass more restrictions for the abortion process.
(SPRINGFIELD) The 2018 Illinois Spring Trout fishing season is just a few weeks away and the IDNR has stocked over 80,000 rainbow trout in 54 ponds, lakes, and streams throughout the state. Anglers will need both a fishing license and an Inland Trout Stamp to participate, unless they are under the age of 16, blind, disabled, or are an Illinois resident on leave from active duty in the Armed Forces. While the Spring Catch & Release Fly Fishing season opens at nine (9) sites on March 24, the regular trout season will begin at 5:00 on the morning of Saturday, April 7. For more information on the trout seasons and other Illinois fishing opportunities, go online at www.ifishillinois.org, or check the state website at www.dnr.state.illinois.gov.
