(NEWTON/OLNEY) In yesterday’s USDA Crop Report, colder temperatures with light rain and patches of snow have delayed planting and fieldwork throughout much of Illinois. Last week’s average temperature was 34.0 degrees, which was 13.6 degrees below normal. The state’s average precipitation last week was 0.77 inches, 0.07 inches above normal. While both the topsoil and subsoil moisture levels were over two-thirds adequate to surplus, the state’s winter wheat condition was 50% good to excellent and 38% fair. Farmers in our ten county Southeastern Illinois area report little to no fieldwork has taken place so far this spring.
