(OLNEY) The Arbor Day Foundation has designated the City of Olney as a 2017 Tree City USA in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management. Olney achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements by developing (1) a Tree Board, (2) a Tree Care Ordinance, (3) an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita, and (4) an Arbor Day observance and proclamation. Since trees provide multiple benefits to a community when properly planted and maintained, they also help to improve the visual appeal of neighborhoods, increase property values, reduce home cooling costs, remove air pollutants, provide wildlife habit, and more. Congratulations to the City of Olney and those responsible for making it a Tree City USA. For more on the nationwide program, go online at www.arborday.org.
