(WASHINGTON) The U.S. Supreme Court has decided to allow the Rod Blagojevich convictions to stand as they are and the 14 year prison term to continue. It was nearly two years ago that the high court refused to hear Blagojevich’s appeal. His lawyers had wanted the Supreme Court to take up the case to make clear what constitutes illegal political fundraising. The lawyers argued politicians are vulnerable to prosecution because the line between what’s allowed and what’s illegal is blurry. The former Governor’s convictions include trying to extort a children’s hospital for contributions and seeking to trade an appointment to the Senate seat that Barack Obama vacated when he was elected President for campaign cash.
