(OLNEY) Five members from fourteen Illinois high schools are preparing to travel to Monticello for the 2018 Illinois Envirothon competition, coming up next Thursday and Friday, May 3rd and 4th. It’s the 24th Annual two-day event which will determine which team advances to represent Illinois and compete at the National Envirothon later this year in July out in Pocatello, Idaho. The Envirothon program combines classroom learning with hands-on field experiences focused around five major topics, including Aquatics, Forestry, Soils, Wildlife, and a Current Environmental issue, which this year is “Western Rangeland Management”. Among the high schools sending a team to the competition are six from Southern Illinois, including Richland County High School in Olney, North Clay High School in Louisville, plus other high schools in Paris, Beecher City, Triad, and Elverado.
