The Rolling Thunder Illinois Chapter 3 will host a benefit event this Saturday at the Olney VFW. Registration for the benefit motorcycle ride is from 8:30 to 10:15 with the kick stands up at 10:30. The 150 mile scenic ride includes stops at Witts Smokehouse in Effingham, at Legacy Harley-Davidson, and back to the Olney VFW for a meal at 4:30 and auction at 6:00. Proceeds for the next Veterans Honor Flight.
The Richland County Addiction Prevention Coalition invites everyone to join them to learn more about the Opioid Epidemic with a special presentation this Thursday night, May 17, from 6:30 to 8:30 at Olney Central College. The documentary entitled “The Heroin Project” will be shown with a question and answer session to follow with an expert panel on hand, plus health instructors will be there to educate those attending on Narcan training. The educational event is open to the public with free admission.

The Ridgway Chapter of the Illinois Audubon Society will meet tonight at 7:00 in the hospitality room of the First Presbyterian Church in Olney. The program will be about birds in East Central and Southeastern Illinois, both residents and some very infrequent visitors. All interested are invited to attend.
There are two area meetings tonight : the Newton City Council meets tonight at 6:00 at the Newton City Hall : the IECC Board of Trustees will meet tonight at Lincoln Trail College near Robinson, beginning at 7:00 : both of these meetings are open to the public at their respective sites : the City of Olney has canceled tomorrow’s May 16 meeting of the Olney Parks and Recreation Board.
