(NEWTON) The investigation is continuing into an accident that occurred at around 2:27 Saturday afternoon that involved two four-wheelers in rural Jasper County. The Illinois State Police report one four-wheeler was northbound on Jasper County Road 2150 East near County Road 200 North, approximately 5 miles southeast of Ste. Marie, when the four-wheeler slowed down and stopped due to a hat that flew off. The second four-wheeler that was following then rear-ended the first four-wheeler, of which both the driver and passenger were ejected from their ATV. The driver and passenger, 19 year old Seth R. Meinhart of Newton and 20 year old Stacey C. Smithenry of Newton were transported to Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney by private vehicle. Meinhart was later airlifted to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. The other ATV driver and passenger were 18 year old Cole M. Horner of Dundas and a 16 year old female juvenile. None of the occupants were wearing helmets. Both drivers were ticketed for operating a non-highway vehicle on a county road. The State Police were assisted by Jasper County emergency personnel.
