(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced the debut of a multimedia safety campaign that asks the public to make a choice : Life or Death. Since Illinois is facing a crisis with more than 1,000 deaths on our roads each of the last two years and since almost all of these deaths are avoidable, the “Life or Death” campaign is a step in the right direction toward getting people to think about how the decisions they make in their day-to-day lives have deadly consequences. The new “Life or Death” campaign has a new website, at www.lifeordeathillinois.com, which will provide printable educational materials and links for the public to share their own “Life or Death” stories. It’s all IDOT funded.
(SPRINGFIELD) This week is Healthy and Safe Swimming Week, always observed the week before Memorial Day, a time when many swimming pools open for the summer. This year’s theme is “Swim Healthy, Stay Healthy” as the week is dedicated to educating people on how they can take an active role in protecting themselves and their families and preventing the spread of germs when swimming. This applies to not only swimming pools, but also lakes and other natural bodies of water. Health officials say all swimmers should take some simple steps before heading into the water.
