(NEWTON) The Law Enforcement Torch Run to benefit Special Olympics Illinois is coming up this next Tuesday, June 12. The annual Torch Run has two goals : to raise money for Special Olympics and to gain awareness for the athletes who participate in Special Olympics. Local members of Jasper County Law Enforcement will be out running for the cause, starting at 8:15, leaving the Jasper County Courthouse lawn and heading west out of Newton along Jourdan Street. All donations will be accepted and are welcomed. Meanwhile, the Illinois Department of Corrections will carry the Flame of Hope from Marion to Normal. The IDOC runners will begin the two day leg next Tuesday in Centralia, passing through Sandoval, Vernon, and Vandalia before ending the first day in Ramsey. Then day two on Wednesday will continue the track on to Normal. At least 85 runners from fifteen (15) IDOC facilities will be taking part in next week’s event. The Torch Run will lead into the Special Olympics Illinois summer games next weekend in Normal.
