(NEWTON) While the National Weather Service has a Flash Flood Watch in effect for Jasper and several surrounding counties until 9:00 this Monday morning, most of the heavy rains are north of a line along U.S. Route 50, that’s where the frontal boundary is currently hanging over our downstate area. The region north of a line from Effingham to Vincennes, including Newton and most all of Jasper County, is under the gun again this morning with thunderstorms dropping another 1 to 3 inches of rain, which is on top of the 2 to 4 inches of rain already received from Saturday night through yesterday afternoon. All motorists are reminded to never drive across a flooded roadway, especially at night. There’s also a few power outages affecting local and regional residents out there as well. Listen to a NOAA Weather Alert Radio for updates.
