(NEWTON) The investigation continues into a single vehicle crash that occurred at around 12:20 early yesterday (Sunday) morning on a Jasper County Road, north of Newton. The State Police reports 29 year old Daniel W. York of Robinson was westbound on the Jasper County 1400th Avenue, just west of CR 1125 Street, when the pickup truck he was driving ran off the roadway, crossed a ditch, and struck a tree at the edge of a wooded area. Both the driver, and a passenger, 24 year old Austin W. York also of Robinson, were transported to HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham by the Jasper County Ambulance Service. York (driver) was ticketed for DUI alcohol, for improper lane usage, for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, for failure to wear a seatbelt, and for an expired registration. The passenger was ticketed for failure to wear a seatbelt. The State Police were assisted at the scene by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office & other emergency personnel.
(FLORA) The investigation continues into a single vehicle wreck that occurred at 7:45 this past Saturday night on East Railroad Street in Flora. The State Police reports 51 year old Timmy J. Sowers of Louisville was traveling east on his Harley Davidson motorcycle while attempting to street race another motorcycle when the bike left the street and drove onto a grassy area to the south of the roadway. Sowers was eventually thrown off his motorcycle. He was transported to Clay County Hospital in Flora. Sowers was ticketed for street racing, reckless driving, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and for driving on the wrong side of the roadway. The State Police were assisted at the accident scene by the Flora Police Department and Clay County emergency personnel.
