(SPRINGFIELD) Today is Flag Day 2018. A day when Americans celebrate the meaning of their nation’s flag, honor the traditions associated with the Flag’s care, and educate those around them to the Flag’s significance. The Flag of the United States is to be honored at all times as it carries both history and tradition. It was this date 241 years ago, on June 14th, 1777, that the Flag Resolution was signed into law, making the current Stars and Stripes the National Flag of the United States of America. It was in 1916 that President Woodrow Wilson called the nationwide observance “Flag Day” and then 36 years later in 1949 that President Harry S. Truman signed a decree making June 14th of each year “National Flag Day.” We pray that everyone takes a moment to remember what “Old Glory” stands for as it flies over America.
