(OLNEY) in boys golf - Olney beat Newton, 165 to 201 - the Match Co-Medalists were Olney's Joshua Haussy & Michael Fehrenbacher, each with a low round four-over 40 - the other top Tiger golfers were Keon Stallard & Drew Spitz - Newton's top golfers were Phil Blank, Mitch Mammoser, Peyton Wyatt, & Jacob Ochs - the Tigers host Lawrenceville next Thursday - the Eagles are in Crawford County today

 

(OLNEY) in girls tennis - Olney beat Casey-Westfield, 8-1 : the Lady Tigers won five of the six singles matches, including #1 Kelsey Shipman, #3 Rachel Shan, #4 Sadie Gassmann, #5 Alex Kauble, and #6 Emily Hustad : Olney won all three doubles matches with the winning pairs - #1 Shipman & Chelsea Pearcy, #2 Gassmann & Kauble, and #3 Shan & Hustad : Olney also won the jv match, 9-7 : both Olney teams are now 1&1 on the year and both return to action today, weather permitting, to host Carmi

 

(NOBLE) in junior high softball - Noble has won two in a row, beating Geff this past Tuesday & North Clay last Friday - the Junior Lady Wildcats are not back in action until September 11th at Louisville

 

(OLNEY) in junior pro football last night in the Junior NEC League : Olney's two older teams picked up two victories over Flora - the 7th & 8th graders won 35-0, while the 5th & 6th graders scored in the final minute of action to win, 22-12 - last night's older game featured a 26 yard field goal, what some believe to be the first for Olney junior pro football : all of the Olney teams return to action on September 11th

 

(OLNEY) in college football news : the Big Ten's new football alignment for next season has been unveiled as the league will have two six-team divisions - the Fighting Illini will join Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Indiana, & Purdue, while the other will consist of Michigan, Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota, & Northwestern : meanwhile, the 115th season of Big Ten football kicks off tonight with Indiana, Minnesota, & Ohio State in action - the conference's other eight teams will open up this Saturday : the Fighting Illini open in St Louis this Saturday against Missouri with game time at 11:30 : be listening for the first 2010 Ron Zook Show, talking about Illini football, coming up later tonight

 

(NEWTON) in the National Football League : the Indianapolis Colts will wrapup their preseason tonight at home, hosting Cincinnati - the Colts will open up their 2010 schedule September 12th at Houston

 

(OLNEY) in Major League Baseball Wednesday : the Cardinals lost, while the White Sox & Cubs both won : all three teams are off on this Thursday & all are back at it on Friday - the Cardinals will host the Reds tomorrow night - the Cubs host the Mets in the afternoon - the White Sox are in Boston

(OLNEY) in high school volleyball last night - Olney took three matches from Flora: the Lady Tigers won the varsity match in two games, led by Marche Hammeren, Samantha Herman & Makenzie Sechrest: Olney also won the jv match and freshmen match in two games: each at 2 & 0, the Olney teams host Mt. Carmel on thursday.

(NEWTON) also in high school volleyball last night - Newton took two matches from Oblong, Lady Eagles won the varsity match in two games, led by Earnest and Keller: Newton also won the jv match in two games. Newton plays at the Casey Invitational Sept. 4th.

(OLNEY) in Cross Country yesterday from Robinson, Olney finished second out of 6 teams taking part- the winning team from Robinson, followed by Olney, St. Anthony, Lawrenceville, T-Town and Oblong- Olney's team included Max Gassmann (1st), Shane Newman (6th), Brandon Phillips (7th), Cale Stallard (10), Connor Schonert (15), Allen Keller (54) and Joshua Wiggs (55). Olney now 3-1.

(NEWTON) in Cross country yesterday - Newton girls 19, Effingham 42: top runners were Carly Niebrugge (1st), Maddie Green (3rd), Jamie Michl (4th) & Maura Cummins (5th). The Newton boys 33, Effingham 22, Luke Stone (3rd), Levi Newton (6th), Ridge Finn (7th) & Jeff Short (8th).

(OLNEY) in boys high school golf yesterday - Olney won a two team match , beating Flora 154 to 188- Olneys top scores came from Joshua Haussy with a 1 over 36 , Michael Fehrenbacher a 38, Dylan Taylor and Keon Stallard a 40, Chad Martin a 41 and Drew Spitz a 42. Olney host Newton today.

(OLNEY) in Major League Baseball last night : the Cardinals and the Cubs lost - the White Sox won : all three teams are back at it this afternoon - the Cardinals finish up their series in Houston - Cubs host Pittsburgh today at Wrigley Field - White Sox wrapup their series in Cleveland : all three teams are off tomorrow
