* there are fifteen games on tonight’s schedule, seven of which involve Midwestern teams
Cardinals host the Reds  :  Cubs host Padres  :  White Sox at Detroit  :  Twins host Indians
Pirates host the Brewers  :  Royals host the Oakland A's  :  Braves are at Toronto

 

(OLNEY)  in Junior College Softball yesterday – Olney Central College split a GRAC twin bill
the Lady Knights split two down at John A. Logan near Carterville
* Olney Central lost game one in eight innings, 3-2
* the Lady Knights came back to win game two, 4-0
now at 27&15, 10&14 in the GRAC, the Lady Knights will host Wabash Valley for two today in Olney

 

(OLNEY)  in Girls High School Soccer yesterday – Olney wins again on the road
the Lady Tigers beat Mattoon, 3-2 as Olney beat the host Lady Green Wave
* Courtney Kman scored two Olney goals – Sarah Guinn had the other, plus Maci Dunn with an assist
* it was another great defensive match for Olney’s Kylar Craig
the Soccer Lady Tigers are back in action today and tomorrow in the Harrisburg Tournament

 

(NEWTON)  in High School Baseball yesterday – Newton won its home conference game
the Eagles beat Marshall at the Jasper County Boys & Girls Park, 12-2 in five innings
* Nate Meinhart had 3 doubles with 2 RBI while Luke Geier had a 3 RBI hit
* Mike Carr and Mitch Jansen each had 2 hits and an RBI
* Mitch Jansen was the winning pitcher allowing only 1 earned run and striking out 3
now at 6&4 on the year, the Eagles remain undefeated in the Little Illini Conference at 3&0
Newton is back in LIC action today with a rescheduled matchup in Flora this afternoon

the Tigers lost to visiting Paris, 7-4 although Olney outhit the visiting Tigers, 13 to 12

Olney falls to 5&5 overall, now 2&1 in the LIC – Tigers play this afternoon at Clay City

the Lady Tigers lost to visiting Paris, 5-2 as the visiting Lady Tigers outhit Olney, 9 to 3
* K.J. Royse had two of Olney three hits while Sarah Hill had Olney’s only RBI
now 7&7 overall, the Lady Tigers are 2&1 in the LIC – they’re back in action today at Clay City

the Blues begin action with the first game in St. Louis tonight against Minnesota

the Blue Knights lost a pair of conference games down at Wabash Valley College in Mt. Carmel
* the host Warriors won the first game over the Blue Knights, 7-1
* Wabash Valley won the second game over the OCC men, 2-0
the Blue Knights fall back to 14&15 on the year, now 5&12 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference

(OLNEY)  in Girls High School Soccer yesterday – Olney sweeps two on the road
the Lady Tigers won the varsity match at Centralia, 5-1
* Olney’s goals included a hat trick with three scored by Sarah Guinn
* Hali Hahn scored one of the other goals – plus Courtney Kman had a goal and an assist
Olney also won the junior varsity match over Centralia, 3-0
* the jv goals were scored by Erica Mortenson, Robin Volk, and Aaron Bromm
the Soccer Lady Tigers are back on the field tomorrow at Mattoon

the Tigers beat Effingham, 5 to 4
Olney won five of the six singles matches
* Derek Walker won the #1 match in two sets

* Cameron Pearcy won the #5 match in two sets
* Brock VanBlaricum won the #6 match in two sets
Effingham won all three of the doubles matches
in junior varsity action – Olney won 10 of the 13 doubles matches and won 6 of the 7 singles matches

the Tigers beat Flora, 10-9 on a walk-off 2 RBI double in the bottom of the 7th inning
while both teams had 12 hits each, the two teams combined to leave 17 runners on base
* Olney’s Tyler Zuber had 3 hits with 3 runs scored – Gage Miller had the walk-off game winning hit
* Jonah Buscher pitched the final two innings for the win in relief of Hunter Wyatt and Connor Adams
improving to 5&4 on the year, the Tigers are in LIC action at home tomorrow night against Paris

the Eagles held on to beat Dieterich, 4-1 as Newton outhit the host Movin' Maroons, 6 to 4

* Blake Probst was the complete game winning pitcher allowing no earned runs and striking out five

the Olney Lady Tigers won five of the eighteen events, including all four of the team relays
* Kylee Cummins, Savannah Dunn, Reagan Hahn, and Jynsen Yonaka won the 400 meter relay

* Emma Weber was 2nd in the 400 meter dash

* there are thirteen games on this Tuesday, four of which involved Midwestern teams
Cleveland will host the White Sox  :  Pittsburgh will host Detroit  :  the Braves host Miami

the Lady Knights lost a GRAC doubleheader at home to Kaskaskia College, 9-7 and 4-2
OCC then split a GRAC twin bill at home with John A. Logan, losing 4-1 and winning 2-0

the Britton Bullpen team won the Van Smith Memorial Tournament out in O'Fallon
* the local players tied their opening game with the Southern Illinois Cyclones from Marion
* the Bullpen crews then lost their next game on Saturday
* they then won three games in a row thru the consolation bracket to win the tournament
* the local guys beat a team from Mt. Vernon and then defeated the Cyclones in the championship game
the Britton Bullpen 13 & Under squad is now 17&8 over the past several weeks

* the Cardinals took two from the Reds, winning 4-1 Saturday and 7-5 in 11 innings yesterday
* the Cubs split two with Colorado  :  the White Sox took two from the Twins
* the Royals took two from the Angels  :  the Tigers took two from the Indians
* the Brewers and Pirates split two  :  the Braves split two with the Mets
there are fifteen games on this Monday, five of which involves Midwestern teams
* the Cardinals host Milwaukee  :  the Cubs host the Reds  :  its Detroit in Pittsburgh
* Kansas City at Minnesota  :  the Braves host the Marlins  :  the White Sox are idle

 

(OLNEY)  in Junior College Baseball over the weekend – OCC lost two of three games
the Blue Knights lost two Saturday at Lincoln Trail College near Robinson, 5-3 and 7-2
the Blue Knights won a single GRAC game yesterday, beating Lincoln Trail, 3-1
now 14&13 overall, the Blue Knights are scheduled for two today down at Kentucky Wesleyan

 

(OLNEY) in Boys High School Track from last Friday’s Olney Invitational Meet
it was Salem winning the ten team event, beating out second place Newton, 123.5 to 104
the host Olney Tigers finished 3rd, four points better than Robinson, 99 to 95 – Mattoon was 5th
then it was Charleston, Casey-Westfield, Teutopolis, Mt. Carmel, and Fairfield

(OLNEY)  in Boys High School Tennis Saturday – Olney won the Flora Doubles Tournament
the Tigers beat the host Wolves, 4-0 by winning all four matches
* Connor Walker and Derek Walker won the #1 match in two sets
* Cameron Pearcy and Austin Urfer won the #2 match in two sets
* Brock VanBlaricum and Marshall King won the #3 match in three sets
* Tanner Hendrickson and Carson Scherer won the #4 match in two sets
the Tigers then beat Effingham St. Anthony, 3-1 by winning three of the four matches
* Connor Walker and Derek Walker won the #1 match in two sets
* Cameron Pearcy and Austin Urfer won the #2 match in two sets
* Tanner Henrickson and Kye Stallard won the #4 match in four sets

the Lady Tigers won the first game by beating Hutsonville-Palestine, 11-1
Olney outhit the other Lady Tigers, 18 to 7
* Paige Ginder had 3 hits and 3 RBI – Bayli Spillman had 2 hits and 2 RBI including a home run
* KJ Royse had 3 hits and 3 runs scored – Sarah Hill had 3 hits, 2 runs scored, and 1 RBI
* Larissa Michels was the winning pitcher, allowing only 1 earned run and striking out 11
the Lady Tigers won the championship game over Lawrenceville, 12-3
Olney was outhit by the host Lady Indians, 9 to 8
* Dana Hawkins had a 3 RBI double – Paige Ginder had a 2 RBI double
* Keregan Coleman had 2 hits and 2 runs scored
in the other games  :  Lawrenceville beat Martinsville, 18-0 in five innings
                               :  Hutsonville-Palestine beat Martinsville for third place, 13-1
now at 6&5, the Lady Tigers are back in LIC action today at Casey-Westfield

 

(NEWTON)  in High School Baseball Saturday – Newton split two games at home
the Eagles won the first game, a LIC Conference win over Casey-Westfield, 4-0
Newton outhit the visiting Warriors, 6 to 2
* Mitch Jansen was the winning pitcher, a complete game shutout, allowing only 2 hits, striking out 5
* Brock Mammoser had 2 hits and 2 RBI – Luke Geier had a double and scored 2 runs
the Eagles lost their second game, falling to North Clay, 9-1 as Newton was outhit, 10 to 6
* Mike Carr had the only RBI hit – Nate Meinhart and Luke Geier each had 2 hits apiece
now at 4&5 overall, 1&0 in the LIC, the Eagles are back in LIC action today at Flora

* Salem beat Taylorville in Apollo doubleheader action, 3-2 and 6-5 in eight innings
* South Central beat Johnston City, 12-8

* Edwards County beat Webber, 26-3   :  Waltonville beat Edwards County, 8-1
* Marshall split two at the Route 1 Showdown  :  losing to Robinson, 7-2 but beating Westville, 6-5

Olney won the three team Meet by beating host Fairfield, 70 to 51 - Flora was third with 43 points
the Lady Cubs won six of the thirteen varsity events - also had four 2nd place finishes
* Cameron Hough won the 1600 meter run
* Kenna Atteberry won the 100 meter dash
* Kaitlyn Flanagan won the 100 meter low hurdles
* Tara Hughes won the high jump
* Colleen Inyart won the discus
* Leah Snyder won the shot put
* Taylor Ferguson, Morgan Cummins, Tara Hughes, and Tamara Brown was 2nd in the 800 meter relay
* Hope Laughlin, Allison Howard, Daylyn Wood, and Cameron Hough were 2nd in the 1600 meter relay
* Gracie Julian was 2nd in the 800 meter run
* Rebecca Shires was 2nd in the high jump

the Cubs won seven of the thirteen varsity events - also had six 2nd place finishes

* Kaleb Foster won the high jump
* Brandon Murphy won the long jump
* Peyton Blanton, Brandon Murphy, Dillon Haney, and Chase Williams won the 800 meter relay
* Dakota Holder won the 200 meter dash
* Peyton Blanton won the 100 meter low hurdles
* Dylan Seessengood, Jace Greenwood, Caleb Thomas, and Brandon Murphy won the 1600 meter relay
* Dillon Haney was 2nd in the 100 meter dash
* BradyThompson was 2nd in the 1600 meter run

* Isaac Pampe was 2nd in the long jump

the Olney Dirtbags won the weekend tournament over at Washington, Indiana
the Olney boys beat Indiana teams from Jasper, Newburg, Vincennes, Heritage Hills, and Bedford
the Dirtbags are now 11&3 on the year having competed now in three tournaments so far in 2015
