(OLNEY)  in Major League Baseball on Tuesday involving Midwestern teams
*  the Cardinals beat the Mets, 3-0 with the four game series now tied at one apiece
    *  elsewhere  :  the Cubs, Reds, and Royals all won
    *  the White Sox, Indians, Brewers, and Twins all lost
*  the Cardinals are back in New York tonight for game three of the four game series

 

(OLNEY)  in High School Softball yesterday – Olney lost a tough non-conference game at home
*  the Lady Tigers lost to Salem, 12-5 as the visiting Lady Wildcats outhit Olney, 14 to 9
    *  K J Royse led Olney with 2 hits and 2 RBI while Sarah Hill also had a 2 hit day
    *  Bayli Spillman, Keregan Coleman, and Paige Ginder each had an RBI hit as well
*  now at 10&7 on the year, Olney will host Oblong in a non-LIC game today at ERHS

 

(NEWTON)  in High School Softball yesterday – Newton won a non-conference game at home
*  the Lady Eagles beat Neoga, 6-3 as Newton outhit the visiting Lady Indians, 10 to 6
    *  Karsyn McCoy was the winning pitcher working in relief of Kristen Hardiek
    *  McCoy also led the Newton hitting with 2 hits, 2 runs scored, and 1 RBI
    *  Emily Kerner and Maddie Stanley also had 2 hits and 1 RBI each
*  the Lady Eagles are back in LIC action tomorrow when they travel to Hutsonville-Palestine

(NEWTON)  the Nick Volk Invitational Fresh/Soph Track Meet was held Monday in Newton
*  the Newton Eagles finished 2nd in the boys event – Robinson won the boys event
*  Effingham finished 3rd, followed by Mattoon in 4th place and Teutopolis in 5th place
*  the Eagles had eleven top three finishes in the 18 events
    *  Joseph Stone won both the 400 meter dash and 800 meter run
    *  Brycen Dhom, Keith King, Daniel McCrillis, & Kaleb Wittgan won the 1600 meter relay
    *  Nicholas Cartright won both the shot put and the discus throw
    *  Mitch Bierman had 2nd place finishes in both the 100 meter dash and the 200 meter dash

*  the Tigers needed only 5 innings to beat Red Hill, 10-0 as Olney outhit the Salukis, 6 to 2
    *  sophomore Jonah Buscher was the winning pitcher, striking out 8 and allowing only 2 hits
    *  Nolan Shan led Olney at the plate with 2 singles, 1 triple, 3 runs scored, and 2 RBI
    *  Tryston Runyon had 2 hits, a sacrifice fly, and 2 RBI
*  the Tigers improve to 11&4, now 3&2 in the Little Illini Conference
*  the Tigers quickly return to action against a tough Salem team this afternoon at Millspaugh Field

*  the Eagles beat Oblong, 9-4 as the Newton outhit the visiting Panthers, 9 to 7
    *  Tanner Shull was the winning pitcher, striking out 8 while working five and a third innings
    *  Shull also led the Eagles at the plate with 2 hits and 2 RBI
    *  Caleb Chesnut and Tim Weber each had 2 hits and 1 RBI, combining for 3 runs scored
*  the Eagles improve to 6&3 overall, now 4&1 in the Little Illini Conference
*  the Eagles are quickly back in action today as they travel to Mattoon to battle the Green Wave

*  the Lady Eagles edged out Oblong, 2-1 although Newton was outhit by the visiting Lady Panthers, 5 to 4\
    *  Karsyn McCoy was the winning pitcher, allowing only 1 earned run in 7 innings while striking out 9
    *  Brittney Fore, Emily Kerner, Ginny Sandschafer, and Aerial Richards each had 1 hit for Newton
*  the Lady Eagles are quickly back in action today hosting Neoga at the Jasper County Boys & Girls Park

*  the Lady Tigers took care of Red Hill in five innings, 10-0 as Olney outhit Red Hill, 11 to 1
    *  Larissa Michels got the win allowing the only one hit while striking out 4
    *  Sarah Hill led the Olney hitting with 3 hits and 3 RBI
    *  KJ Royse had 2 hits and 2 RBI, while Jansen Yonaka and Bayli Spillman each had 2 hits as well
*  now at 10&6, the Lady Tigers host an important game today with Salem at ERHS

*  the JV Tigers took two from Mt. Carmel, 4-3 and 13-0
    *  Olney’s winning pitchers were Connor Adams with a no-hitter and Derek Diemel in relief
    *  top hitters were Ethan Eagleson, Dylan Hires, Derek Diemel, Brenden Brown, and Trostian Morris
*  the JV Tigers have won 8 straight improving their record to 8&1 on the year

*  the Tigers finished tied for 2nd place with Newton – Teutopolis won the nine team meet

    *  Gus Lathrop won both the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash
    *  Nick Dobbs won the 800 meter run
    *  Matthew DeVenecia was 2nd in the 800 meter run

*  the Tigers beat host South Central in the first game, 10-4 as Olney outhit the Cougars, 10 to 8
    *  Tryston Runyon was the winning pitcher, throwing all 7 innings and striking out five
*  Olney lost game two, falling to North Clay, 4-1 as the Tigers were outhit by two and stranded 9 on base
    *  the day’s top Olney hitter was Tryston Runyon with 5 hits, 2 RBI, and on base seven times
    *  Nolan Shan had 3 hits and 3 runs scored – Hunter Wyatt had 2 hits and 3 runs scored
*  at 10&4 on the year, the Tigers are scheduled for LIC action today at home against Red Hill
*  by the way, North Clay won the tournament with a win over South Central in the final game, 5-1

    *  the Royals beat Houston, 5-1  :  the Brewers lost to Pittsburgh, 11-2
    *  the Indians lost to Detroit, 7-5  :  the Twins shutout Toronto, 7-0
*  the Cardinals are back in Washington, D.C. to play the Nationals tonight
    *  elsewhere  :  the Cubs host the Reds today  :  the White Sox play the Rangers in Texas
    *  the Royals host the Twins  :  the Brewers are in Pittsburgh  :  the Indians host Toronto

*  the Blue Knights beat Danville in a single nine inning game, 9-4
    *  the winning pitcher was Alex Holder, who improves to 4&0 on the year
    *  Tyler Ward was OCC’s top hitter with 2 hits and 2 RBI
*  the Blue Knights improve to 24&13 on the year and will host Lincoln Trail today in GRAC action

 

(OLNEY)  in Girls High School Soccer – Olney lost two tough matches at home at Musgrove Park
*  the Lady Tigers lost the varsity match to Mattoon, 1-0 as Olney had 19 shots on goal
    *  Olney had strong defensive play from Taylor Milburn and Hali Hahn – goalie Robin Volk had 3 saves
*  Mattoon also won the junior varsity match, 2-1 – Olney’s lone goal was scored by Lexie Erwin
*  the Lady Tigers will be in Tournament action today and tomorrow down at Harrisburg

*  the Lady Knights split two on the road down at John A. Logan, winning 10-1 and losing 7-4
*  the OCC Ladies are now 29&16 on the year, now 12&13 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference
*  the Lady Knights are back at home for a GRAC twinbill this afternoon against Southwestern Illinois

 

 

(NEWTON)  in High School Baseball yesterday – Newton wins a conference game on the road
*  the Eagles beat Edwards County, 4-2 as Newton outhit the host Lions in Albion, 6 to 5
    *  Caleb Chesnut was the winning pitcher, allowing no earned runs in seven innings, striking out five
    *  Chesnut was also Newton’s top hitter with 3 hits and 1 RBI
    *  Tanner Shull had 2 hits and Luke Huston had an RBI double
*  Newton is now 6&3 on the year and returns to action Monday when they host Oblong

*  the Tigers lost to Cumberland, 4-3 on a walk-off bases loaded single in the bottom of the 7th inning
    *  Peyton Billington led Olney at the plate with 2 hits and 1 RBI
    *  Nolan Shan and Tyler Zuber also had 2 hits as well
*  at 9&4, the Tigers play tomorrow in a Wooden Bat Tournament against South Central & North Clay

    *  Larissa Michels was the winning pitcher working all 7 innings and striking out five
    *  Keregan Coleman had 2 hits and 2 RBI – Jansen Yonaka had 1 hit and scored 2 runs
*  the JV Lady Tigers also won yesterday, beating Robinson, 10-8
*  Olney will be action tomorrow morning at Indiana’s North Knox High School with game time at 10:00
