* Friday  :  the Cardinals lost to Houston, 5-4  :  the Cubs & Reds both won  :  the White Sox lost
* Saturday  :  Cardinals at Houston  :  Cubs host the Dodgers  :  White Sox at Detroit  :  Reds at Pittsburgh

(OLNEY)  in junior college softball and baseball throughout downstate Illinois  :
* the Region 24 Baseball Tournament begins with first round matchups this weekend at the higher seeded sites – the top seeded teams are John A Logan, Wabash Valley, and Rend Lake – the lower seeded teams include Lincoln Trail, Southwestern Illinois, and Kaskaskia
* the Region 24 Softball Tournament begins with first round matchups this weekend at the high seeded sites – the top seeded teams include Wabash Valley, John A Logan, and Kaskaskia – the lower seeded teams are Rend Lake, Southwestern Illinois, and Lincoln Trail
* both Region 24 Baseball & Softball Tournaments continue thru midweek of next week
* due to a minor infraction last year, both OCC teams cannot compete in the 2012 NJCAA postseason

(OLNEY)  the IHSA State Bass Fishing Tournament is half over over in Clinton County, on Carlyle Lake  :
* with the first 8 hours of fishing yesterday, the highest weight total of five fish came in at just over 16 lbs
* the Highland teams had weight totals of 14 pounds and 13 pounds, currently ranked at 6th and 11th
* the South Central teams had weight totals of 12 pounds and 8 pounds, currently ranked at 15th and 42nd
* the Robinson team had a weight total of nearly 8 pounds, currently ranked at 45th
* this second day of competition runs now thru 3:00 – the awards ceremony is at 4:30 this afternoon
* a total of 54 boats are back in the water on Carlyle Lake today for the fourth annual tournament finals

(NEWTON)  this final weekend of Apollo Conference softball is in jeopardy with the wet conditions  :

(OLNEY)  and it’s the Opening Day for Little League Baseball in Olney this morning with the ceremony to start at 9:00 this morning at the new Musgrove Park Ballfield Complex – while the ceremony will begin on time, all Little League games on this first day of play in Olney will have a two-hour delayed starting time

(NEWTON)  the Newton Junior Football League has a parent’s meeting coming up next Monday night, May 7th, from 6:00 to 8:00, at the Peterson Park East Pavilion – all parents of JFL players are encouraged to attend, all to discuss the upcoming JFL season in Newton – also check Facebook for details as well


(FLORA)  this weekend at the Clay County Speedway, the Gateway Vintage Racing Association returns to the high banks, joining the regular lineup of six divisions of racing on this Saturday night – gates open at 4:30, with racing at 7:30, still for the low price of $5 per person – that’s tonight, just north of Flora
