(OLNEY)  in jr college basketball last night – it was a tough GRAC doubleheader down in Mt Carmel  :
* the OCC men lost to Wabash Valley, 64-58 as the Blue Knights fall to 16&3, now 6&1 in the GRAC – Latroi Wright led OCC with 14 points – Noah Stewart, P.J. Alson, & Trivante Bloodman each had 8 points
* the OCC women lost to Wabash Valley, 78-63 as the Lady Knights drop back to 13&7 overall, now 3&4 in the GRAC – Tara Wornica led OCC with 20 points – Kelsee Innis & Alyssa Like teamed up for 28 points
* the OCC teams are back in action this Saturday night, traveling to Lincoln Trail College in Robinson


 
(OLNEY)  the LIC Conference Tournaments continued last night with the consolation bracket semi-finals  :
* in boys’ action at Red Hill High School in Bridgeport  :  Oblong eliminated Lawrenceville, 61-53  :  Edwards County eliminated Red Hill, 77-71
* in girls’ action at the Lawrenceville High School  :  Oblong eliminated Palestine-Hutsonville, 40-38  :  Cumberland eliminated Casey-Westfield, 48-34
* the boys’ tournament continues with two more games tonight in Bridgeport  :  4th-seeded Oblong plays 9th-seeded Edwards County for the consolation championship at 6:00  :  3rd-seeded Casey-Westfield plays 5th-seeded Hutsonville-Palestine in the third place game at 7:30  :  the championship game is tomorrow night
* the girls’ tournament continues with two more games tonight in Lawrenceville  :  3rd-seeded Cumberland plays 7th-seeded Oblong for the consolation championship at 6:00  :  2nd-seeded Flora plays 4th-seeded Red Hill in the third place game at 7:30  :  the girls championship game is also tomorrow night as well

 

(OLNEY)  in girls freshmen basketball action last night  :  Fairfield slipped by Olney, 40-32


 
(NEWTON)  in boys junior high hoops – the IESA 7th Grade Regionals continue all of this week  :
* Class 1A Regional @ Effingham  :  top-seeded Sigel St Michael’s beat Effingham Sacred Heart in the title game, 40-25  :  the 6th-seeded St Thomas Saints were eliminated from the regional this past Monday night
* Class 2A Regional @ Effingham  :  top-seeded Arcola beat Oblong in the championship game, 47-24
* Class 2A Regional @ Nokomis  :  top-seeded Altamont beat Nokomis in the championship game, 31-20
* Class 3A Regional @ Robinson  :  Newton Jasper County plays Robinson in the title game tonight at 6:00
* Class 3A Regional @ Marshall  :  Marshall plays Teutopolis in the championship game tonight at 6:00
* Class 4A Regional @ Champaign  :  Champaign Edison beat Effingham in the title game, 48-32
* the Regional winners move on to Sectional play a week from tonight on February 2nd
* meanwhile, the IESA 8th Grade Regionals will begin with quarter-final round games this Saturday


 
(OLNEY)  in girls junior high basketball – the Southern Illinois State Tournaments continue  :
* Class S @ Rend Lake College  :  Olney St Joe plays in semi-final action tonight at 6:00 against Germantown – at 18&7 on the year, the Lady Wildcats will return for a final game Saturday afternoon

 
 
(OLNEY)  in boys junior high basketball – the Southern Illinois State Regionals are this week  :
* Class S @ West Salem  :  Olney St Joe, at 20&1, begins post-season action tonight at West Salem

 
 
(NEWTON)  in girls high school basketball – it’s back to Apollo Conference hoops, but only six of the eight teams are in action  :  the Newton Lady Eagles are on the road to Paris  :  the other matchups have Effingham at Charleston and Robinson at Mt Zion  :  the Olney Lady Tigers will play at Salem tomorrow night, part of a “mega night” event with the jv games at 5:30, Lady Tigers at 7:00 and the Tigers at 8:30

 


                                                  LOCAL AND AREA REMINDERS

 

(NEWTON)  a note from Newton Community High School  :  next Monday night is “Pack the Place Night” in the NCHS Gym as The Peoples State Bank will donate money to the Athletic Booster  Club & the Letterwomen’s Club for every fan who enters the gate – admission for the Monday night girls game between Newton & Robinson is free to all fans who wear orange or blue  :  meanwhile, next Thursday, February 2nd, it will be “Senior Night” at the girls game as Newton will host Charleston – the Lady Eagle’s lone senior player, Amy Koebele, and Lady Eagle’s team manager, Jessica Cartright, will both be honored during their final regular season game at NCHS – all are urged to come out next week

 

(NOBLE)  the Noble Community Youth League signups for both boys & girls, ages 4 thru 13, will be next Monday night & Tuesday night, January 30th & 31st, from 5:00 to 7:00 each night, at the Lion’s Club Building in Noble – for more information or if any questions, call anytime at 618-843-9317
