*  the Cardinals beat Washington, 8-0 in the first of four against the Nationals
    *  elsewhere  :  the Cubs and Reds were both idle  :  the White Sox lost to Boston, 3-1
    *  the Royals beat Houston, 5-1  :  the Brewers lost to Pittsburgh, 11-2
    *  the Indians lost to Detroit, 7-5  :  the Twins shutout Toronto, 7-0
*  the Cardinals are back in Washington, D.C. to play the Nationals tonight
    *  elsewhere  :  the Cubs host the Reds today  :  the White Sox play the Rangers in Texas
    *  the Royals host the Twins  :  the Brewers are in Pittsburgh  :  the Indians host Toronto

 

(OLNEY)  in Junior College Baseball – Olney Central College picks up a win at home on Conley Field
*  the Blue Knights beat Danville in a single nine inning game, 9-4
    *  the winning pitcher was Alex Holder, who improves to 4&0 on the year
    *  Tyler Ward was OCC’s top hitter with 2 hits and 2 RBI
*  the Blue Knights improve to 24&13 on the year and will host Lincoln Trail today in GRAC action

 

(OLNEY)  in Girls High School Soccer – Olney lost two tough matches at home at Musgrove Park
*  the Lady Tigers lost the varsity match to Mattoon, 1-0 as Olney had 19 shots on goal
    *  Olney had strong defensive play from Taylor Milburn and Hali Hahn – goalie Robin Volk had 3 saves
*  Mattoon also won the junior varsity match, 2-1 – Olney’s lone goal was scored by Lexie Erwin
*  the Lady Tigers will be in Tournament action today and tomorrow down at Harrisburg

 

(OLNEY)  in Junior College Softball yesterday – Olney Central College split a pair of GRAC games
*  the Lady Knights split two on the road down at John A. Logan, winning 10-1 and losing 7-4
*  the OCC Ladies are now 29&16 on the year, now 12&13 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference
*  the Lady Knights are back at home for a GRAC twinbill this afternoon against Southwestern Illinois

 

 

(NEWTON)  in High School Baseball yesterday – Newton wins a conference game on the road
*  the Eagles beat Edwards County, 4-2 as Newton outhit the host Lions in Albion, 6 to 5
    *  Caleb Chesnut was the winning pitcher, allowing no earned runs in seven innings, striking out five
    *  Chesnut was also Newton’s top hitter with 3 hits and 1 RBI
    *  Tanner Shull had 2 hits and Luke Huston had an RBI double
*  Newton is now 6&3 on the year and returns to action Monday when they host Oblong

 

(OLNEY)  in High School Baseball yesterday – Olney lost another conference game on the road
*  the Tigers lost to Cumberland, 4-3 on a walk-off bases loaded single in the bottom of the 7th inning
    *  Peyton Billington led Olney at the plate with 2 hits and 1 RBI
    *  Nolan Shan and Tyler Zuber also had 2 hits as well
*  at 9&4, the Tigers play tomorrow in a Wooden Bat Tournament against South Central & North Clay
    *  the Tigers play South Central at 10:00 Saturday morning – then face North Clay at around 12:30

 

(OLNEY)  in High School Softball yesterday – Olney won a conference game on the road
*  the Lady Tigers edged out Cumberland, 3-2 as the tying run in the 7th inning was thrown out at the plate
    *  Larissa Michels was the winning pitcher working all 7 innings and striking out five
    *  Keregan Coleman had 2 hits and 2 RBI – Jansen Yonaka had 1 hit and scored 2 runs
*  the JV Lady Tigers also won yesterday, beating Robinson, 10-8
*  Olney will be action tomorrow morning at Indiana’s North Knox High School with game time at 10:00

 

(NEWTON)  in High School Softball yesterday – Newton lost a conference game on the road
*  the Lady Eagles lost to Edwards County, 13-7 as the Lady Lions outhit Newton, 15 to 13
    *  Newton’s top hitter was Ginny Sandschafer with 2 hits, including a home run and 3 RBI
    *  Karsyn McCoy had 3 hits and Kaitlyn Hardiek had 2 hits, 1 RBI, and 2 runs scored
*  the Lady Eagles are quickly back in action today when they host Altamont late this morning in Newton

*  the Olney Cubs tied with Fairfield for 2nd place, each with 55 points – Flora won the meet with 61 points
*  the Cubs had ten top three finishes in the fourteen varsity events
    *  Payton Blanton won the 100 meter low hurdles
    *  Cole Simpson, Pierce Jones, Tyler Hughes, & Braxton Burgener won the 1600 meter relay
    *  Addison Craig was 2nd in the high jump and 2nd in the 1600 meter run
    *  Cameron Flanagan, Page Wibbenmeyer, Zack Shoemaker, Caleb Gardner / 2nd in the 800 meter relay

*  the Cardinals are in our nation’s capital starting a four-game series tonight against the Nationals

    *  Evan Eagleson led the Tiger hitting with 3 hits and 1 RBI – Reid Kocher had 2 hits and 3 RBI

    *  Newton’s Bryan Spitzer was the winning pitcher, with a complete game shutout
    *  Brock Mammoser led the Eagles’ hitting with 4 hits and 2 runs scored – Luke Huston had an RBI hit

    *  Emily Kerner led Newton at the plate with 2 hits, 1 RBI, and 1 run scored
    *  Brittney Fore and Maddie Stanley each had 2 hits and 1 run scored as well

(NOBLE)  in High School Softball yesterday – Noble/Clay City won a non-conference game on the road
*  the Lady Wildcats slipped by Oblong, 2-1 as Noble/Clay City outhit the host Lady Panthers, 8 to 1
    *  Darcie Hawkins was the winning pitcher, throwing the one-hitter and striking out seven
    *  Macy Hance had the game winning 2 RBI hit in the top of the 7th inning
    *  Megan Hance had a 3 hit day with a stolen base and 1 run scored
*  now at 8&5, the Lady Wildcats are back at home in Noble next Tuesday in rescheduled MTC action

(OLNEY)  in Boys Junior High Track – nine area schools took part in the recently held Olney Invitational
*  Salem won the event, four points better than 2nd place Red Hill – the host Cubs were 3rd, with Carmi 4th
*  Newton/Jasper County finished 5th, followed by Mt. Carmel, Flora, Mt. Vernon, and Noble
*  the Olney Cubs ended up with nine top-three finishers in the 17 total events
    *  Josiah Burkhart won the pole vault
    *  Braxton Burgener was 2nd in the pole vault
    *  Payton Blanton was 2nd in the 100 meter low hurdles
    *  Josiah Burkhart, Pierce Jones, Tyler Hughes, and Braxton Burgener were 2nd in the 1600 meter relay

(OLNEY)  East Richland High School Senior Kelsey Shipman signed a “letter of intent” yesterday
*  Shipman was signed by the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville to play Division 2 Tennis
*  the ERHS all-around athlete did well in several sports, but really excelled in tennis
    *  Shipman had an overall doubles record of 65 wins and only 10 losses
    *  she had an overall singles record in four years of 63 wins and 17 losses
    *  was All Conference all four years – Apollo Conference twice in singles – LIC twice in doubles
    *  placed first in doubles twice at sectional – placed third and second in singles at sectional
    *  a four time state qualifier
        *  played in the singles state tournament as a freshman and sophomore
        *  played in the doubles state tournament as a junior and senior
    *  named to the All South Girls Tennis Team all four years
    *  an All State Honorable Mention her senior year
    *  and an IHSA All State Academic Team Honorable Mention her senior year
*  the best of luck to Kelsey Shipman, the newest member of the USI Screaming Eagle’s Tennis team

    *  the Twins lost to Toronto  :  the White Sox beat Boston  :  the Cubs and Indians were rained out
*  in action on this Wednesday – the Cardinals go for the sweep in Milwaukee this afternoon
    *  the Cubs will play a day / night doubleheader  :  the Reds are also in action this afternoon
    *  the Royals, White Sox, Indians, and Twins are all back in action later tonight

 

(OLNEY)  in Junior College Softball yesterday – Olney Central College swept two GRAC games at home
*  the Lady Knights took two from Southeastern Illinois, 3-0 and 10-9 in nine innings
*  the OCC Ladies improve to 28&13 overall, now 11&10 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference
*  the Lady Knights are back in GRAC action today on the road down at Southeastern Illinois

 

(OLNEY)  in Girls High School Soccer yesterday – Olney played to a tie at home in Musgrove Park
*  the Lady Tigers held even with Centralia, playing to a 3-3 tie at the end of regulation
*  Olney had 26 shots on goal, while the Lady Tiger defense held Centralia to only 10 shots on goal
    *  Kylar Craig scored 2 goals and Taloni Ginder had 1, assisted by Alex Kauble and Courtney Kman
    *  Robin Volk had 8 saves as the Olney goalie – outstanding play by Courtney Kman and Maci Dunn
*  Olney won the junior varsity match over Centralia, 8-0 led by Hali Hahn’s 2 goals
    *  others from Lexie Erwin, Rylee Dial, Stephanie Shan, Sarah Quinn, Taloni Ginder, and Robin Volk
*  the Soccer Lady Tigers are back in action tomorrow with their final home match against Mattoon

 

(OLNEY)  in Boys High School Tennis yesterday – Olney lost to a very tough team on the road
*  the Tigers lost at Effingham, 9-0 as the experienced Hearts won all six singles and three doubles matches
*  the junior varsity Tigers did win four of the eleven matches against Effingham
*  now at 4&2 on the year, the Tennis Tigers will host Robinson with a conference match next Tuesday

 

(NEWTON)  in High School Baseball yesterday – Newton picked up a non-conference win at home
*  the Eagles slipped by visiting Dieterich, 5-4 at the Jasper County Boys & Girls Park
    *  Kyle Woods was the winning pitcher, working the last 2 innings, giving up no runs with 2 strikeouts
    *  Caleb Chesnut had the walk-off, game-winning RBI double in the bottom of the 7th inning
    *  Brock Mammoser had 2 hits and 1 run scored – Nick Reis had a 3-run home run and 3 RBI
*  the Eagles improve to 3&3 on the year and remain at 1&1 in the Little Illini Conference
*  Newton is scheduled for conference action on the road at Albion tomorrow against Edwards County

*  the Lady Tigers held on to beat Mt. Carmel, 13-12 in 8 innings
    *  the host Lady Aces outhit Olney, 17 to 11 however Mt. Carmel committed 4 errors
    *  Kirsten Garner was Olney’s winning pitcher throwing 3 innings of no-hit ball
    *  Sarah Hill led the offense with 3 hits and 3 RBI including her first varsity home run
    *  Taylor Barrick, Jansen Yonaka, and Paige Ginder each had 2 hits apiece as well
*  now at 7&6 on the year, the Lady Tigers are in LIC conference action tomorrow at Cumberland

(OLNEY)  in Major League Baseball involving Midwestern teams over the weekend
*  the Cardinals took two from the Cubs, winning Saturday, 10-4 and winning yesterday, 6-4
    *  the Brewers and Twins each won two, while the Royals lost two
    *  the White Sox, Reds, and Indians each split their games
*  the Cardinals begin an 11-game road trip tonight at Milwaukee against the Brewers
    *  the Reds host Pittsburgh  :  the Cubs, White Sox, Royals, Indians, and Twins are all idle

 

(OLNEY)  in Junior College Softball from the weekend – Olney Central College split four games
*  on Friday, the Lady Knights lost a GRAC doubleheader to Wabash Valley, 6-0 and 6-0
*  on Saturday, the Lady Knights swept a conference twinbill from Kaskaskia, 8-7 and 6-5
*  now at 26&13 overall, at 9&10 in the GRAC, the Lady Knights are at Southwestern Illinois today

 

(OLNEY)  in Boys High School Track on Friday – the Olney Invitational was held at ERHS
*  Mattoon won the 11-team event by outscoring second place Newton, 107-90
*  Robinson was three points back in 3rd place, followed by Teutopolis and Salem rounding out the top five
*  then it was Charleston, Olney, Cisne, Casey-Westfield, Fairfield, and Mt. Carmel
*  the Olney Tigers won two of the 21 events, also with a third place finish and a few other point finishes
    *  Gus Lathrop won both the 100 meter dash and the 200 meter dash
    *  Nick Dobbs was 3rd in the 800 meter run
    *  Gavin Lathrop was 4th in the 200 meter dash
    *  Dalyn Brach was 6th in the 3200 meter run
    *  Cody Dial, Silven Stallard, Dalyn Brach, and Nick Dobbs were 6th in the 1600 meter relay
*  there were no results provided to us from the 2nd place Newton Eagle squad
*  the Tigers are back in action tomorrow at Robinson

 

(OLNEY)  in Boys High School Tennis Saturday – Olney won the Flora Doubles Tournament
*  the Tigers beat Marion by winning two of the three matches
    *  Olney's Austin Urfer and Cameron Pearcy won the #2 match in two sets
    *  Olney's Derek Walker and Sterling Hostetter won the #3 match in two sets
*  the Tigers beat Flora by winning two of the three matches
    *  Austin Urfer and Cameron Pearcy won the #2 match in two sets
    *  Derek Walker and Sterling Hostetter won the #3 match in two sets
*  improving to 4&1 on the year, the Tennis Tigers return to the courts tomorrow at Effingham

 

(OLNEY)  in High School Softball Saturday – Olney won the Lawrenceville Invitational Tournament
*  the Lady Tigers won their first game over Hutsonville-Palestine, 8-6 although they were outhit, 12 to 8
*  Olney then won the championship game over Lawrenceville, 4-1 as the Lady Tigers had 7 of the 13 hits
    *  Larissa Michels only pitched two innings in each game and got both wins
    *  Olney’s top hitter on the day was KJ Royse with 5 hits, 3 runs scored, and 3 RBI
    *  Bayli Spillman had 3 hits and 1RBI, while Jansen Yonaka had 3 hits and 2 runs scored
*  now at 6&6, the Lady Tigers take their 1&0 LIC mark south to Albion today against Edwards County

 

(NEWTON)  in Boys High School Baseball Saturday – Newton won a home conference game
*  the Eagles held off Olney and won an extra inning game, 2-0 in nine innings of play
    *  Newton’s Tanner Shull had a walk-off  2-run home run and Luke Huston had 2 hits
    *  Olney’s Nolan Shan and Peyton Billington had 3 hits each while Tyler Zuber had 2 hits
    *  Newton’s Caleb Chesnut got the win throwing all 9 innings with 6 strikeouts
*  Newton is scheduled to host Lawrenceville in LIC action today
*  the now 8&3 Tigers are scheduled to play at Albion against Edwards County
