moved from Olney to Southeastern Illinois, the Lady Knights took two from the Lady Falcons down south
Olney Central College won the first game, 7-2
* the Lady Knights’ winning pitcher was Bailey Walker
* OCC’s top hitter was Alexis Hensley with 4 hits and 3 RBI
the Lady Knights won the second game, 7-5
* OCC’s winning pitcher was Allexis Lemon, while Christian Chambers got the save
* the Lady Knights’ top hitter was Bailey Walker with 2 hits, including an RBI double
the Lady Knights improve to 17&5 on the year, now 6&4 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference
the OCC women are scheduled to host John A. Logan with a GRAC twin-bill this afternoon

the Newton Eagles were 19th out of the 32 Class A teams with eight individual top finishers
* Joe Stone was 2nd in the 800 meter run
* Mitch Bierman was 7th in the 200 meter dash
* Jake Volk was 8th in the 60 meter hurdles
* Cody Riddle was 14th in the shot put
* Nick Cartright was 15th in the shot put
* Rhett Kocher was 17th in the long jump
* Mitch Bierman was 22nd in the 60 meter dash

Newton had three top ten relay teams, but the relay team members were not available

the Olney Tigers were 21st out of the 30 Class AA teams with seven top finishers
* Gus Lathrop tied for 2nd place in the 200 meter dash
* Tate Nohren was 11th in the triple jump
* Matthew DeVenecia was 13th in the 800 meter run
* Ben Lynch was 13th in the pole vault
* Gavin Lathrop was 20th in the 400 meter dash
* Michael DeMeyer was 20th in the 1600 meter run
* Tate Nohren was 22nd in the 60 meter hurdles
the Track Tigers will be back in action next Monday in a quad meet at Effingham

 

(NEWTON)  in Girls High School Track from the EIU Indoor Meet in Charleston earlier this month
the Newton Lady Eagles were 2nd out of 34 Class A downstate teams with nine top finishes
in fact, the Newton girls were just a point and a half behind the winning team from Eureka, 51 to 52.5
* McKendra Barthelme won the long jump, finishing first
* Hannah Litzelman was 2nd in the 200 meter dash
* Taylor Johnson, Brooke Koebele, Lexie Davidson, & Hannah Litzelman were 2nd in the 800 meter relay
* Taylor Johnson, Emma Weber, Alli Kline, & Lexie Davidson were 2nd in the 1600 meter relay
* Alex Haarman was 3rd in the 60 meter dash
* Emma Weber was 6th in the 400 meter dash

(OLNEY)  a used baseball and softball equipment sale will be held this Saturday with all money raised to help Olney and Richland  County youngsters play ball – the funds raised will be split between the youth baseball and softball leagues in Olney – so dig out those used items and drop them off at the Musgrove Park pavilion this evening (Thursday) from 5:00 to 7:00 or Saturday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 – this includes all cleats, socks, pants, sliding shorts & pads, helmets, bats, bags, & gloves – let’s make it possible for all kids to play ball this year – the sale is this Saturday from 9:00 to 5:00 at the Musgrove Park pavilion

Olney lost a close one in Effingham, falling to St. Anthony, 8-7 as the Lady Tigers were outhit, 10 to 5
* Olney’s Sarah Hill hit a 3-run home run with 3 RBI – Dani Hawkins had 1 hit and 2 RBI
at 3&1, the Olney Lady Tigers are scheduled to play again today at home against Cumberland

 

(NEWTON)  most all other area sporting events were cancelled due to the wet field conditions
* in High School Baseball – Effingham St. Anthony beat Robinson, 14-4

* Class 2A  :  Mt. Pulaski beat Augusta Southeastern in the championship match in two games
                      Mt. Pulaski finishes the year at 24&3 and champions in Class 2A
* Class 4A  :  Mt. Zion beat Homer Glen Homer in the third place match in three games
                      Mt. Zion finishes the year at 26&1 and third in the state

* sisters Katelyn & Kristen Hardiek teamed up to throw a no-hitter in 5 innings with 10 strikeouts
* Newton’s Maddie Stanley had 3 hits 3 ru/ns scored – Kristen Hardiek had 2 hits including a home run
the 2&1 Lady Eagles are scheduled to play at Mattoon this afternoon

with 36 total hits in the game, the visiting Bulldogs outhit the host Tigers, 19 to 17

in a rescheduled game against Rose Hulman, the Blue Knights won, 18-4
* Matthew Resrick was the winning pitcher – the top OCC hitter Dillon Whitten was 4-5 with 7 RBI
on Saturday, the Blue Knights beat Southeastern Illinois in the first of two games, 8-5
* Devin Williams was OCC's winning pitcher while Lucas Lantrip picked a save
* top OCC hitters were Dillon Whitten, 1-3 with 3 RBI and Brad Colvert, 2-3 with 2 runs scored
also on Saturday, the Blue Knights beat Southeastern Illinois, 6-0
* Dillon Whitten was the OCC winning pitcher
* OCC’s top hitter was Ryan Battin, 2-3 with 2 runs scored
then yesterday, the Blue Knights won their third straight against the Falcons, 2-0

on Saturday, the Lady Knights dropped two at Kaskaskia, 8-0 and 11-9
yesterday, the Lady Knights swept two from Morthland College, 8-0 and 9-0
the Lady Knights improve to 15&5 on the year, now 4&4 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference
the OCC women finally have a day off after playing six doubleheaders in six days straight

* the top Lady Tiger hitters were K.J. Royse, 4-4 and 1 RBI – also Maci Baker, 2-3 with 3 RBI
the Lady Tigers then won both games Saturday in the Lady Tiger Tournament
Olney won the first game by beating Mt. Carmel, 8-5 outhitting the Lady Aces, 10 to 6

* at the plate, Olney was led by Luke Hahn, 2-3 with a triple
with a 1&1 record on the year, the Tigers will host Effingham St. Anthony this afternoon at 4:30
by the way, authorities are looking for those responsible for vandalism at Millspaugh Field Friday night
* it included random holes dug in the outfield, home plate stolen, and second base dug-up and relocated
* if anyone has information about who did this uncalled-for-vandalism, call the Olney Police Department

the Blue Knights are off today, but will host Southeastern with a GRAC doubleheader tomorrow

the Tigers are scheduled to host North Clay at Bill Millspaugh Field tomorrow morning at 11:00

it will be a varsity game only on Saturday against the Cardinals

 

(OLNEY) in Junior High Volleyball the Lady Cubs finished their regular season on the road last night

At Salem. Olney lost the 8th grade game in two games 18-25 and 10-25, the Lady Cubs lost both the 7th

And 6th grade games in two. The Olney varsity squad will return to Salem for Class L Regional action next Monday to play Flora

the Olney Lady Tigers are scheduled to open up their season at home today against Flora

the Lady Tigers will then host their early season Tournament tomorrow at ERHS with four games

* Olney plays Mt. Carmel at 10:00 with Newton against Robinson at 12 noon

* the losers will play at 2:00 for third place with the winners playing at 4:00 for the championship

concessions will be available with no admission charge – check it out on Saturday
