*  the Colts lost to the Cowboys, 42-7
*  the Rams lost to the Giants, 37-27
*  the Vikings lost to the Dolphins, 37-35
*  the Chiefs lost to the Steelers, 20-12
*  the Browns lost to the Panthers, 17-13
Week Sixteen of the NFL ends tonight as the Bengals host the Broncos in Cincinnati

 

(OLNEY)  in Men’s Division One College Basketball Saturday – Illinois wins again
it was the annual “Braggin’ Rights” game in St. Louis against Missouri
*  the Fighting Illini beat the Tigers on a three-pointer at the buzzer, 62-59
now at 9&3 on the year, Illinois returns home to host Kennesaw State Saturday night

*  Wabash Valley beat Elizabethtown Tech, 92-54
*  John A. Logan beat West Kentucky Tech, 107-73
*  Wabash Valley beat Danville, 70-65
*  Vincennes University beat Don Bosco Prep, 71-68
all our downstate Region and GRAC teams, including Olney Central College, are off until 2015

 

(OLNEY)  in Boys High School Basketball Saturday night – Olney won at home in Ron Herrin Gym
the Tigers held off the visiting Mt. Carmel Golden Aces, 39-38
*  Hunter Wyatt led Olney with 17 points while Tate Nohren had 16 points
Olney also won the junior varsity game over Mt. Carmel, 50-39
now 4&3 on the year, the Tigers are off until the Pinckneyville Tournament Friday afternoon at 4:00

 

(OLNEY)  in Girls High School Basketball Saturday afternoon – Olney dropped two on the road
the Lady Tigers lost a close one to Teutopolis, 42-39
*  Olney’s Bayli Spillman had 12 points – Jaycie Luna, Taylor Rauch, and Julie Luna each had 8 points
Teutopolis also won the junior varsity game, 63-25
now at 4&7, the Lady Tigers play the first game of the Mattoon Tournament Friday morning at 8:30

*  Flora slipped by Marshall, 50-48
in a few other girls games on Saturday involving downstate teams
*  Effingham St. Anthony beat Arthur-Lovington, 44-38

*  Cisne won the 5th place game by beating Grayville, 56-54
*  Edwards County won the 3rd place game by beating Wayne City, 58-45
*  Patoka won the championship game by beating Crab Orchard, 67-63
among the twelve young men chosen to the All Tournament Team

*  Altamont won the championship game by beating Cowden-Herrick, 45-37

(OLNEY)  in Boys High School Basketball last night – Olney split two LIC games on the road
the Tigers came back to win the varsity game at Paris, 60-57
*  Olney's Hunter Wyatt led the team with 22 points while Ethan Eagleson added 15 points
Paris won the junior varsity game, 42-37
the varsity Tigers improve to 4&3 on the year, remaining undefeated in the LIC at 3&0
the Tigers are quickly back in action tonight at home in Ron Herrin Gym tonight to host Mt. Carmel

 

(NEWTON)  also in Boys High School Hoops last night – Newton dropped two on the road
the Eagles lost the varsity game at Robinson, 56-27
*  Newton’s Brock Mammoser and Nate Meinhart combined for 13 points
Robinson also won the junior varsity game, 56-38
at 3&6 now, 1&2 in the LIC, the Eagles are back in action next Friday at the Dieterich Tournament

(OLNEY)  in Girls High School Basketball – the Olney squad is in non-conference action this afternoon
the Lady Tigers are at Teutopolis this afternoon with JV action at 1:00 and varsity play at around 2:30

 

(OLNEY)  in Boys High School Hoops as we mentioned before – Olney is back in action tonight
the Tigers are at home in Ron Herrin Gym at ERHS to host the Golden Aces of Mt. Carmel
it’s junior varsity action at 6:15 with the varsity game at around 7:30

 

(NEWTON)  in Men’s Division One College Basketball – Illinois returns to action today
the Fighting Illini are in St. Louis to battle the Missouri Tigers in the annual “Braggin’ Rights” game
while Illinois enters today’s game at 8&3 on the year, the Tigers come in even up at 5&5
the Illini leads the series with 28 wins and 16 losses – Illinois won last year's game by one point

the host Jaguars came from behind to beat the visiting Tennessee Titans, 21-13
Week Sixteen will continue with fourteen more games this weekend on Sunday

 

(OLNEY)  in Girls High School Basketball last night – Olney dropped two non-LIC games on the road
the Lady Tigers lost the varsity game at Fairfield, 51-43
*  Olney’s Bayli Spillman had a double/double with 12 points and 10 rebounds – Jaycie Luna had 9 points
Fairfield also won the junior varsity game, 38-25
now at 4&6 on the year, the Lady Tigers are back in action tomorrow afternoon at Teutopolis

(NEWTON)  the IESA Girls 8th Grade State Basketball Tournaments ended last night
here’s the results involving some area and downstate teams
Class 4A  :  Effingham won the State Championship with a 25-13 win over Minooka
Class 3A  :  Hillsboro won the State Championship with a victory over Eureka, 46-40
Class 1A  :  Danville Schlarmann won the State Title with a 48-38 win over Mt. Pulaski

 

(OLNEY)  in Boys Junior High Hoops last night – Olney St. Joe won a pair of games at home
the Wildcats beat Clay City in the 8th grade action, 40-36 as both teams finish at 7&1 in the JMTC
*  Olney St. Joe and Clay City end up sharing the 2014 JMTC Championship as Co-Champs
*  Brent Hatten led St. Joe with 19 points while Bryce Hance led Clay City with 28 points
St. Joe also won the 7th grade game, 33-13
the Wildcats are now off until January 5th when they are in JMTC Tournament action down at Cisne

 

(OLNEY)  in Boys High School Basketball – it’s back to a full schedule of games coming up tonight
the Olney Tigers are in Little Illini Conference play as they travel to Paris
the Newton Eagles are also on the road in LIC Conference action at Robinson
elsewhere tonight in the LIC  :  it’s Marshall at Flora and Casey-Westfield at Red Hill
the Lawrenceville Indians are off tonight as they begin tournament action Monday at Princeton, Indiana
the Edwards County Lions continue their action at the tournament in Wayne City tonight

the Fighting Illini beat Hampton University, 73-55 as Illinois improves to 8&3 on the year
Illinois is back in action Saturday at 1:00 in St. Louis in the “Braggin’ Rights” game against Missouri

 

(OLNEY)  in Boys High School Wrestling last night – Olney won another dual match on the road
the Tiger Wrestlers beat Lawrenceville, 60-21 as Olney won 10 of the 14 individual matches
*  Ryan Smith improved to 6&1 on the year by winning the 106 pound class with a pin
*  Jordan Miller is undefeated at 4&0 as he won the 113 pound class with a pin
*  Lance Bailey is now 5&1 on the year after winning the 120 pound class
*  Preston Thompson improved to 6&2 with a win in the 126 pound class
*  Nathan DeMeyer won the 132 pound class with a 65 second pin – he’s now 6&1 on the year
*  Dalyn Brach is now 5&2 on the year after his win in the 152 pound class by a pin
*  Tim Sturm remains undefeated at 7&0 with a pin to win the 160 pound class match
*  freshman Kyle Beasley is now 5&2 after winning the 195 pound class by a pin
*  senior Zach Shoulders won the 220 pound class with a 42 second pin – he improves to 5&2 on the year
*  and Naaman Umfleet picked up a win in the 285 pound class with a pin
Olney is now 3&1 on the year – the Tigers are back in action Saturday at the Cumberland Tournament

*  Edwards County beat Clay City, 64-30
*  and Wayne City beat Thompsonville, 56-28

*  Patoka plays Zeigler-Royalton at 7:00
*  Webber plays Crab Orchard at 8:30
with the final three pool play games ending tomorrow night, the final three games are Saturday night

the Cubs lost the 8th grade game at Centralia, 41-29 as the varsity team is now 5&6 on the year
*  Olney’s Sutton Dunn had 8 points and 7 rebounds
Centralia also won the 7th grade game, 36-16 as the junior varsity squad is now 1&5 on the year
the Cubs were scheduled to play tonight against Effingham, however the games have been postponed
the Cubs are back in action January 5th at home in the ERMS Gym against Vincennes Rivet

the Eagles lost the varsity game to Effingham St. Anthony, 44-26
*  Newton’s Brock Mammoser had 9 points, while Kyle Vahling added 5 points
St. Anthony also won the junior varsity game, 44-31
the Eagles are back in conference action this Friday night as they travel to Robinson

the Lady Cubs won the 8th grade game, 45-42 as the varsity improves to 15&4 on the year
*  Olney was led by Taylor LeCrone with 18 points and Cameron Hough with 13 points
Olney also won the 7th grade game, 28-17 as the junior varsity improves to 12&5 on the year
the Lady Cubs are back in action January 5th at home in the ERMS Gym against North Knox, Indiana

 

(OLNEY)  in Boys Junior High Basketball last night – Olney St. Joe split two on the road at Cisne
the Wildcats won the 8th grade game, 39-23 as the varsity improves to 10&2 on the year, 6&1 in the JMTC
Cisne won the close 7th grade game, 30-29
the Wildcats won both varsity & junior varsity games this past Monday night at home against South Central
Olney St. Joe will host a big Junior Midland Trail Conference matchup against Clay City tomorrow night

 

(NEWTON)  in Boys Junior High Hoops Monday night – Newton Jasper County won two on the road
the Junior Eagles beat Martinsville in the 8th grade game, 45-33
*  Newton was led by Connor Bierman with 14 points
the Junior Eagles also won the 7th grade game, 42-18
the Newton Jasper County boys are off until January 5th, after the Christmas Break

at 7&3 on the year, Illinois is looking to rebound from losing three of their last four games
