*  the Redbirds held on to beat the Phillies in ten innings, 7-6
* other Midwestern teams that won were the Brewers, Royals, Astros, Twins, Indians, and Braves
* those that lost were the Cubs, Reds, Pirates, White Sox, Tigers, and Rangers
the Cardinals finish up the three game series today back in Philadelphia

several downstate area players have been recognized on the ISCA’s All State Teams
there were twelve area young ladies named to the Class 1A Teams

(OLNEY)  in Summer Swim Team competition – it will be a busy day this Saturday in Olney
the TigerSharks will host the Olney Invitational Swim Meet at the Musgrove Aquatic Center
* there will be ten-plus teams taking part in the huge event in Olney’s Musgrove Park
that means hundreds of swimmers with their families & fans in town throughout the day & night

(NEWTON)  the annual Nick’s Race, at Sam Parr State Park, northeast of Newton, is this Saturday, sponsored by the Newton Rotary Club, with proceeds to help benefit the Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network – the entry fee is $25 per person – the registration begins at 7:15 Saturday morning with the Run to start at 8:30 and the Walk at 8:40 – the Race Results & Awards Ceremony is at 9:20 and closing comments at around 10:30 – online registration is still available now at  www.RaceIt.com

 

(OLNEY)  the Olney Tiger Boys Basketball Team will host a fundraising “rummage sale” tomorrow, in Ron Herrin Gym, at Richland County High School – starting at 6:00 Friday morning, the fundraiser will continue until 12:00 noon – items available include retro uniforms, warmups, tee-shirts, basketballs, and much more – all proceeds will go directly to the Olney Tiger Basketball program at RCHS

the Cardinals are back in the City of  Brotherly Love tonight for game two of the three game series

 

(OLNEY)  the Olney TigerSharks Swim Team was in action this past Saturday down at Fairfield
the Olney swimmers won the seven team event, beating out 2nd place Harrisburg, 247 to 194
* Carmi was 3rd with 131 points, followed by Fairfield in 4th at 120 and McLeansboro in 5th at 111
* the Wabash Valley Sharks from Mt. Carmel were 6th at 87 and Mt. Vernon, Indiana was 7th with 7 points
there were four Olney TigerSharks that were the top scorers in their respective age groups
* Owen Powell in the 15-18 Year Old Boys
* Noah Church in the 13-14 Year Old Boys
* Maria Mayorga in the 13-14 Year Old Girls
* Danielle Brown in the 11-12 Year Old Girls
four Olney TigerSharks finished second in their age group
* Carolyn Powell in the 13-14 Year Old Girls
* Judah Dicks and Reid Brown tied for 2nd in the 8 & Under Boys

the Cardinals start a three games series in Philadelphia tonight

 

(OLNEY)  the Olney Tiger 5K Race and One Mile Fun Run was this past Saturday at RCHS
a huge “thank you” to everyone to turned out and took part
* all proceeds go to support the Girls & Boys Cross Country programs at Richland County High School
there were 59 total 5K runners taking part in the annual event
* winning was Michael DeMeyer, nearly one full minute ahead of 2nd place runner Caleb Thomas
* rounding out the top five were Tyler Hughes (3rd), Andrew Garrett (4th), and Braden Nicholson (5th)
* Rob Ulm was 6th, Carroll Sanders (7th), Dylan Ritter (8th), Brooks Julian (9th), & Collin Gilreath (10th)
there were a total of 12 walkers involved in the annual event
* Ann Rudolphi was 1st, followed by Brenda Stallard (2nd), Darla Cummins (3rd), Clarence Berger (4th)
all of the nine walkers in the 1 Mile event were in the 14 and Under Age Division
* Kanan Swope was 1st and Cambell Ulm was 2nd
* Korben Sanders was 3rd, followed by Xavier Zuber (4th) and Kamdyn Kilpatrick (5th)
