the Cardinals dropped a game to the Cubs 5-0
* the Midwestern teams that won were the Pirates – Braves – Indians – Tigers – Brewers - Rangers
* the Midwestern teams that lost were the White Sox – Royals – Reds - Astros
the Cardinals are back in action today with game two of the weekend series against the Cubs in Chicago

* the Olney Tigers took a tough loss to the Flora Wolves 27-24
* Lawrenceville over Casey-Westfield 50-20

the remaining LIC game this week will be played this afternoon
* it’s a 1:00 kickoff today in Robinson as the Maroons host the Newton Eagles
the other LIC team will also play today in a non-conference game on the road

the Cardinals were idle on Thursday, but will return to action later today
* the Midwestern teams that won yesterday were the Brewers, Indians, and Braves
* the Midwestern teams that lost were the Royals and Pirates
* while the Tigers took two from the Twins, the Cubs, White Sox, Reds, Astros, and Rangers were all idle
the Cardinals are back in action today as they start a three game weekend series in Chicago against the Cubs

 

(NEWTON)  in High School Volleyball last night – Newton swept two LIC matches on the road
the Lady Eagles won the varsity match at Lawrenceville in two sets, 25-12 and 25-14
* Newton was led by Grace Hartrich, Abby Frohning, Mallory Bergbower, and Kristen Hardiek
Newton also won the junior varsity match in two sets
the 18-2 Lady Eagles are back in non-LIC action Monday evening, traveling to Salem

 

(OLNEY)  also in High School Volleyball last night – Olney was swept in non-LIC action on the road
the Lady Tigers lost the varsity match to Edwards County in two sets, 17-25 and 25-27
* Olney was led by Addie Hemrich, Faith Stallard, Cheyla Lamb, Haley Rhoads, and Paige Ginder
Edwards County won both the junior varsity and fresh/soph matches in two sets each as well
the 13-6 Lady Tigers are back in action next Tuesday when they host Marshall in a LIC matchup

 

(OLNEY)  in Girls High School Tennis yesterday – Olney won a non-conference match on the road
the Lady Tigers beat the Lady Hearts up in Effingham, 6-3
Olney won four of the six singles matches, all wins in two sets each
* Nicole Shan won the #1 match
* Audrey Jensen won the #2 match
* Logan Kauble won the #3 match
* Katie Hostetter won the #5 match
Olney also won two of the three doubles matches, both in two sets each
* Nicole Shan and Kenna Steber won the #2 match
* Macy Piercefield and Paige Steber won the #3 match
Olney also won all three of the junior varsity matches, two singles and one doubles
the Lady Tigers improve to 7-2 on the year, still undefeated at 3-0 in the Little Illini Conference
Olney’s back on the courts tomorrow with three other teams at the Centralia Tournament

the Cardinals lost to the Rockies, 11-1 although the Redbirds took two of three games out in Colorado

* the Midwestern teams that won were the Cubs, Pirates, Indians, Braves, and Astros
* the Tigers and Twins were rained out
the Cardinals are off today before starting a three game series tomorrow against the Cubs in Chicago

 

(OLNEY)  in Boys High School Golf yesterday – Olney split a pair of matches at home
the Tigers lost to St. Anthony, 183 to 172 but defeated Mt. Carmel by 3 strokes, 183 to 186
* Olney’s best score was shot by Co-Match Medalist Randy Goodman with his round at 41
* the other Co-Match Medalists were St. Anthony’s Ethan Rozene and Mt. Carmel’s Hunter Feller
* Olney’s Luke Shan shot a 45, Coen McDowell shot a 46, and Logan Muston shot a 51
St. Anthony also won girls match by outshooting Mt. Carmel, 192 to 200
* the Match Medalist was Mt. Carmel’s Mallory Rabor with a low round 39
* Olney’s Madeline McKinney shot a 49 and Abigail Nealis shot a 58
the Olney golfers will be back in action tomorrow up at the Charleston Tournament

 

(OLNEY)  in Girls High School Tennis yesterday – Olney lost to a tough squad at home
the Lady Tigers fell to visiting Effingham St. Anthony, 8 to 1
the only Olney victory came in the #3 singles match
* Logan Kauble won in three sets
Olney did win two of the four junior varsity matches
now at 6-2 on the year, the Lady Tigers are back in action today at Effingham

 

(NEWTON)  in Boys High School Soccer from this past Tuesday – Newton won on the road
the Eagles beat Christ Our Rock Lutheran, 8-0
* Newton had 32 total shots on goal, plus great defense by goalie Gavin Fehrenbacher with 5 saves
* Ben Carr led Newton’s offensive attack with 3 of the Eagle’s 8 goals
* single goals were scored by Cole Farley, Jackson Chapman, Renae Russell, Greg Shinn, and Ben Britton
the Soccer Eagles are back in action today as they host Effingham St. Anthony

 

(OLNEY)  in High School Volleyball from last Saturday at the Salem Freshmen Tournament
Olney finished in 3rd place in the 16th annual event over in Marion County
* the young Lady Tigers lost their first pool play match, falling to Benton in two sets, 11-25 and 23-25
* Olney then split their match against Mt. Vernon, winning & losing, 25-19 and 23-25
* the Lady Tigers finished pool play with a two set victory over Salem, 25-19 and 25-22
then in the championship round of the tournament, Olney played Nashville for 3rd place
* the Lady Tigers beat Nashville in three sets, 25-16, 21-25, and 15-10
congratulations to the Lady Tiger Freshmen for their 3rd place finish Saturday at Salem

Olney St. Joe was 2nd in the varsity, 2.1 mile race, among nine other downstate teams
* the Wildcats had three top twenty runners
* Gavin Dorn (3rd), Colin Kocher (7th), and Chris Bower (13th)
St. Joe won the junior varsity 1.2 mile race, among the ten total teams taking part
* Jarrett Doll finished 1st, followed by Evan Uhl (3rd), Rex Hallam (4th), and Jerrison Hough (6th)

Newton finished 3rd with 85 points, followed by Effingham with 99 points

* Michael DeMeyer won the race, finishing 1st overall, followed by brother Nathan DeMeyer in 3rd place
* then Owen Powell (7th), Tyler Hughes (8th), Caleb Thomas (18th), and Aiden Zuber (25th)

(OLNEY)  in Boys Junior High Cross Country from Monday’s St. Mary’s Invitational at Centralia
Olney won the meet by beating 2nd place Trinity Lutheran Centralia, 59 to 110
Mt. Vernon finished in 3rd place with 119 points, plus several other teams followed
the 1st place Cubs had three top fifteen runners on the 1.8 mile course
* Gavin Kirby (4th), Barak Berger (7th), and Brooks Julian (12th)
Olney was 2nd in the junior varsity meet following Centralia, 80 to 63
* the top jv runners were Holden Hough (4th) and Traegan Stanley (17th)
Olney’s top runners in the Open Race were Dylan Ritter and Keaton Hancock
the Cubs ran yesterday at Sam Parr State Park in a meet hosted by Jasper County

the Lady Cubs were represented well by their top runners

* the Midwestern teams that were idle were the Pirates, Brewers, Indians, Tigers, and Twins
the Cardinals are back in Colorado tonight to battle the Rockies

the Tigers shutout visiting Harrisburg on Ed Webber Field at Olney Central College, 4-0
* the Olney goals were scored by Seth Ingram, Connor Walker, Kye Stallard, and Brady Thompson
* Olney had one assist coming from Jacob Henry
* Isaac Pampe played well in goal and Olney had great defense from Gavin Lathrop
the Soccer Tigers are quickly back in action today traveling to Mt. Carmel

the Lady Tigers beat visiting Newton, 6-3
Olney won four of the six singles matches
* Nicole Shan won the #1 match in three sets
* Audrey Jensen won the #2 match in two sets
* Logan Kauble won the #3 match in three sets
* Katie Hostetter won the #5 match in two sets
Olney won two of the three doubles matches
* Nicole Shan and Audrey Jensen won the #1 match in two sets
* Logan Kauble and Carmen Rodriquez won the #3 match in two sets
Olney also won all seven of the junior varsity matches, three singles and four doubles
now at 6-0 on the year, 3-0 in the LIC, Olney will host Teutopolis this afternoon

the Lady Tigers won the varsity match at Martinsville in two sets, 25-15 and 25-9
* Olney was led by Haley Rhoads, Cheyla Lamb, Faith Stallard, Lauren Eagleson, and Paige Ginder
Olney also won the junior varsity match in two sets
the Lady Tigers are back in LIC action tonight at home in Ron Herrin Gym against Robinson

the Tigers lost to the host Golden Aces at Mt. Carmel, 160 to 194
* the Match Medalist was Mt. Carmel's Blake Golden with a 2 under par 34
* Olney’s top golfer was Coen McDowell with a 46, followed by Randy Goodman with a 48
* Olney’s Luke Shan shot a 49 while Jaedyn Moyes had the fourth best Olney round at 51
the girls also had a competition round
* the Match Medalist was Mt. Carmel’s Mallory Raber with a 7 over par 43
* Olney’s Madeline McKinney shot a 58 and Abigail Nealis shot a 65

(OLNEY)  the Olney Junior Football League has fundraising raffle tickets on sale from all players and parents with four guns to be given away – the drawing will be held during the final day of home games in Olney, this coming Saturday, the 24th – the tickets are $5 each or four for $20 and get one free – tickets can also be purchased at the home games on Saturday – all proceeds will help purchase equipment & uniforms
