Here’s the results involving the Midwestern teams
  *  the Bengals beat the Jaguars, 33-23
  *  the Rams beat the 49er's, 13-10
  *  the Chiefs beat the Jets, 24-10
  *  the Browns beat the Buccaneers, 22-17
  *  the Vikings beat the Redskins, 29-26
  *  the Bears, the Packers, and the Titans all had bye weeks
Week Nine in the NFL ends tonight with the Giants hosting the Colts in New York

 

(OLNEY)  here’s Saturday’s downstate results involving Division One College Football
Illinois lost to Ohio State, 55-14 – the 4&5 Illini are off this Saturday, play again November 15th
Eastern Illinois beat Tennessee Tech, 41-10 – the 4&5 Panthers host Murray State this Saturday
Southern Illinois did not play Saturday – the 5&4 Salukis are at Missouri State this Saturday

 

(OLNEY)  the Olney Central College Basketball teams were in action over the weekend
the OCC Blue Knights played at the Kiwanis Classic at Vincennes University
  *  the Blue Knights lost to Columbia State on Friday, 70-64
  *  on Saturday, the Blue Knights beat Jefferson Technical & Community College, 103-68
the OCC Lady Knights played at the Wabash Valley Classic down in Mt. Carmel
  *  the Lady Knights lost their season opener to Dyersburg State, 78-71
  *  on Saturday, the Lady Knights lost to Owens Community College, 91-71
both teams have their home openers this Wednesday night in "The Dungeon" at OCC
  *  the Lady Knights host Parkland at 5:30
  *  the Blue Knights host Lincoln College at 7:30

 

(NEWTON)  the IHSA Girls Cross Country Sectionals were held this past Saturday
the top five teams and top seven individuals not on an advancing team all move on to the State Meet
Class 1A @ Decatur  :  St. Joseph-Ogden won the sectional, with Decatur St. Teresa finishing 2nd
  *  other advancing teams are Monticello, Urbana University High, and Tolono Unity
  *  area runner, Lexie Davidson of Newton, advances to state by finishing 15th
  *  also advancing is Effingham St. Anthony's Anna Sophia Keller who won the Sectional race
  *  no Olney Lady Tigers advanced to State, although they ran hard, finishing 15th as a team
Class 1A @ Edwardsville  :  Freeburg won this Sectional, with Herrin finishing 2nd
  *  the other advancing teams are Red Bud, Carterville, and Murphysboro
  *  advancing individuals includes those from Hamilton County and Harrisburg
Class 2A @ Decatur  :  Chatham-Glenwood won, followed by Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin
  *  Charleston finished in 3rd place, followed by Jacksonville and Highland
  *  advancing individuals include Mattoon's Megan Shaffer

(OLNEY)  the IHSA Boys Cross Country Sectionals were held this past Saturday

(OLNEY)  in Girls Junior High Basketball Saturday – Olney swept two from Robinson at home
the Lady Cubs won the 8th grade game, 34-20 – Colleen Inyart and Taylor LeCrone combined for 22 points
Olney also won the 7th grade game over Robinson, 49-2
at 3&2 on the year, the junior varsity team plays again Saturday in the Flora Tournament
at 4&2, the varsity is in the Lady Bobcat Tournament at Salem this week – play Centralia tomorrow night

(OLNEY)  the Olney Central College Basketball teams begin their 2014-2015 seasons last night
the Blue Knights lost a tough season opener at the Vincennes Classic over in Indiana
  *  the Olney Central College men lost to Columbia State, 70-64
  *  Tyler Brough and Dominic Jackson led OCC with 14 points each
      *  Dmitri Reaves and Connor Wittmer had 13 points apiece
  *  the Blue Knights return for another 4:00 game (Illinois time) today against Jefferson Tech College
  *  the Blue Knights open up at home next Wednesday night against Lincoln College in the “The Dungeon”
on the Ladies side, OCC also lost a rough opener at the Wabash Valley Classic down in Mt. Carmel
  *  the Lady Knights fell to Dyersburg State, 78-71
  *  Kelsey Pilant had 20 points for OCC, while Weslee Wilson and Shelbi Samsil each had 13 points
  *  then the Lady Knights return for a 1:00 game this afternoon against Owens Community College

Class 3A @ Robinson  :  the Newton Eagles had their season end with a 31-7 loss to the host Maroons
  *  the Eagles end the year at 5&5, finishing 5th in the Little Illini Conference & making it into the playoffs

  *  the Eagles will try to avenge a tough double overtime loss back in Week Five on September 26th
  *  while Newton enters with a 5&4 record, Robinson comes in at 8&1 on the year
  *  it’s a Friday night matchup at Robinson High School with game time at 7:00
  *  admission is at $5 per person, set by the IHSA – no passes will be accepted

it was San Francisco with a 3-2 win over the host Royals in the seventh and deciding game
the Giants have won three of the last five World Series, capturing the crown previously in 2010 and 2012

 

(NEWTON)  the 2014 Spooktacular Events were held this past Saturday in Oblong
the Spooktacular Marching Band Field Show involved 14 bands in five categories and competition
the Newton Marching Eagles were the Show’s Grand Champion, while Mt. Carmel was the Fan’s Choice
  *  Class 3A  :  Newton was first, winning all three categories : Drum Major, Percussion, & Auxiliary
      *  Robinson finished in 2nd place
  *  Class 2A  :  Mt. Carmel was first, winning the Auxiliary category
      *  Danville was 2nd  :  Rich Central High was 3rd, winning the Drum Major & Auxiliary
      *  the Olney Marching Tigers were 4th  :  then Salem and Casey-Westfield

(OLNEY)  the East Richland High School Fall Sports Awards Night is set for Monday, November 10th, in the Sliva Auditorium at ERHS, beginning at 6:30 – all fall sports athletes will be honored and recognized – all parents, guardians, and other family members are encouraged to attend

 

(OLNEY)  the Olney Cubs Wrestling Team will have a fundraising “bake sale” on Saturday, November 8th, at the Olney IGA Store, from 9:00 to 1:00 – proceeds will help with traveling expenses and equipment

 

(OLNEY)  it’s back – Brawl in the Fall 2014 Dodgeball Tournament action coming up Thursday night, November 6, in Ron Herrin Gym at East Richland High School – doors open at 6:30, with dodgeball action at 7:00 – admission is only $2 per person – for more information, call Coach Flanagan at ERHS, 393-2191

 

(NEWTON)  the 2014-2015 Newton Eagle Basketball reserved seats go on sale next Monday, November 3rd, for NCHS fans with reserved seats from last season – the general public sale of the reserved seats will begin the following Monday, November 10th – the reserved seat price is at $40 each and the seats are good for the Eagles’ regular home season games only, not for any tournament games that might be played at NCHS – family passes are also available – for tickets or details, call Diane in the NCHS office at 783-2303

the Lady Cubs lost the tough 8th grade game to Teutopolis in overtime, 39-35
  *  Olney was led by Taylor LeCrone with 17 points and Cameron Hough with 10 points
Olney also lost the 7th grade game to Teutopolis, 38-17
the Lady Cubs are back in action at Lawrenceville this Friday night

the Lady Wildcats lost the 8th grade game to Cisne, 30-14
St. Joe also lost the 7th grade game to Cisne, 14-11

the Junior Lady Eagles won the 7th grade tournament game by beating Marshall, 43-16
  *  Newton was led in scoring by Abby Stone with 10 points
the Junior Lady Eagles will play Paris Mayo in action tonight

 

(NEWTON)  the IHSA Football Playoffs begin this weekend around the state
the Newton Eagles are preparing for their rematch with the Maroons at Robinson
  *  the Eagles will try to avenge a tough double overtime loss back in Week Five on September 26th
  *  while Newton enters with a 5&4 record, Robinson comes in at 8&1 on the year
  *  it’s a Friday night matchup at Robinson High School with game time at 7:00
  *  admission is at $5 per person, set by the IHSA – no passes will be accepted
  *  there’s no advance ticket sales and the gates to Crosby Field will open at 4:45 Friday evening
there are three other downstate Class 3A games this weekend, all three scheduled for Saturday afternoon
