*  the Cardinals won their season opener with a 1-0 victory over Cincinnati
*  elsewhere – the Cubs lost to Pittsburgh in 10 innings, 1-0 while Milwaukee beat the Braves, 2-0
*  the White Sox beat the Twins, 5-3 while the Royals lost to Detroit, 4-3
*  here’s the Midwestern schedule of games for this Tuesday night
    *  the Brewers host the Braves
    *  the Cardinals, Cubs, White Sox, and Royals are all idle until tomorrow

 

(OLNEY)  in High School Baseball yesterday – Olney won a non-LIC game on the road
*  the Tigers beat Mattoon, 7-3 as Olney outhit the host Green Wave, 12 to 8
    *  Tryston Runyon got the win, throwing all seven innings allowing 3 earned runs with 3 strikeouts
    *  Tyler Zuber led Olney at the plate with 3 hits and 2 runs scored
    *  Payton Billington, Reid Kocher, & Troy Houchin had 2 hits each, combining for 3 RBI
*  now at 4&1, the Tigers return home to Millspaugh today to host Fairfield in non-conference action

*  the Lady Tigers came up short to Teutopolis, 6-3 as the Lady Shoes outhit Olney, 9 to 6
    *  Paige Ginder led Olney with 2 hits while Bayli Spillman had a 2 RBI hit
    *  Jansen Yonaka also had an RBI hit for the Lady Tigers as well
*  now at 2&4 on the year, Olney returns home to ERHS to host Fairfield later this afternoon

 

(NOBLE)  in High School Softball yesterday – Noble/Clay City lost a non-MTC game at home
*  the Lady Wildcats lost a tough one-run game to visiting Lawrenceville, 8-7
*  while Noble/Clay City outhit the Lady Indians, 11 to 7 the Lady Wildcats committed 6 costly errors
    *  Megan Hance and Sarah Weiler led the Lady Wildcats with 2 hits and 2 RBI each
    *  Darcie Hawkins and Hannah Dulaney also had 2 hits apiece as well

(NEWTON)  the Illinois High School Association has released the Officials of the Year in 20 IHSA sports
*  to be considered for this honor, an official must be nominated by an IHSA recognized association
*  then voted on by considering character, game-calling skill, and levels worked in the IHSA State Series
*  among the 20 IHSA officials recognized throughout the state, there are a few from our downstate region
    *  congratulations to David Sands of Salem, recognized for Girls Volleyball
    *  congratulations to Robert Rice of Danville, recognized for Girls Track and Field
    *  congratulations to Samuel Moran of Lewistown, recognized for Boys Basketball
    *  all others are from the northern half of the state

    *  the Cubs open up this afternoon in Pittsburgh
    *  the Royals start their season this afternoon in Detroit
    *  the White Sox begin this afternoon at home against Minnesota
    *  the Brewers are at home today opening up against the Braves

(OLNEY)  in Junior College Baseball on Saturday – OCC dropped two of three GRAC games
*  on Friday, the Blue Knights lost to John A. Logan, 6-2
*  in Saturday’s doubleheader, OCC lost to John A. Logan in game one, 6-2
*  the Blue Knights won the second game over John A. Logan, 10-4
*  the OCC men are now 20&6 on the year, now 8&5 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference
*  the Blue Knights are scheduled to host Rend Lake in a single GRAC game tomorrow at 3:00

 

(OLNEY)  in Junior College Softball yesterday – Olney Central College won two games at home
*  the Lady Knights won the first game over Rend Lake College, 9-1 in five innings
    *  OCC’s winning pitcher was Allexis Lemon
    *  top OCC hitters were Tyler Allen with 2 hits and 1 RBI – Chelsea Presley had 1 hit and 2 RBI
*  the Lady Knights also won the second game, beating the Lady Warriors, 12-4 in five innings
    *  OCC’s winning pitcher was Olivia Harrelson
    *  top OCC hitters were Chelsea Presley, Sam Ledbetter, and Tyler Allen, each with 3 hits
*  the Lady Knights improve to 21&7 on the year, now 5&5 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference

*  the Lady Tigers played Salem to a 3-3 tie as the Olney Ladies bring their record to 0-1&1 on the year
    *  Olney was led defensively by freshman Stephanie Shan
    *  the Lady Tigers had 21 goal attempts with 12 on frame compared to on 6 goal attempts for Salem
*  the Lady Tigers have their first home match tomorrow at Musgrove Park against Charleston

 

(OLNEY)  in High School Baseball from Friday – Olney wins again on the road in a non-LIC game
*  the Tigers beat Flora over in Clay County, 11-1 in seven full innings
    *  Tyler Zuber won his second game of the year, as Olney improves to 3&1 on the year
    *  Zuber was also Olney’s leading hitter, with 3 hits and 3 RBI
    *  Nolan Shan also had 3 hits and 2 RBI, plus Troy Houchin had 2 RBI as well

(NOBLE)  in High School Softball on Friday – Noble/Clay City won a non-conference game on the road
*  the Lady Wildcats traveled to St. Elmo for a 4-2 win – Noble/Clay City outhit the Lady Eagles, 12 to 5
    *  Darcie Hawkins won her third game of the year allowing only 2 runs and striking out 7
    *  Dani Hawkins led NCC at the plate with 2 hits and 1 RBI
    *  Sarah Weiler, Hannah Dulaney, and Megan Hance also had two hits apiece

*  the Lady Tigers first defeated Edwards County, 7-4 although Olney was outhit by the Lady Lions, 11 to 5
*  Olney then won the title game by beating Fairfield, 11-5 as Olney outhit the Lady Mules, 16 to 7
    *  Olney’s winning pitchers were Kirstin Garner and Larissa Michels
    *  Olney’s top hitters were Paige Ginder, Maci Baker, Sarah Hill, and Olivia Strong
*  the Lady Tigers JV squad is now 2&1 on the year

 

(GREENUP)  the Boy’s Central Illinois All-Star Game was Saturday night at Cumberland High School
*  the Little Illini Conference All-Stars beat the National Trail Conference All-Stars, 83-60
    *  the LIC “most valuable player” was Robinson’s Michael Adande
    *  the NTC “most valuable player” was Beecher City’s Brady Barnes
    *  the Tournament’s 3-Point Champion was Dieterich’s Tanner Traub
*  six players from Olney and Newton played for the Little Illini Conference All-Stars
    *  Newton’s Luke Stone had 13 points, Gunner Pickens scored 4 points, & Caleb Chesnut did not score

*  with the rain, the tournament will not start until 11:30 this morning, 90 minutes later than planned
*  plus, due to the darkness issue, all games will be limited to 90 minutes each
*  so, here’s the revised schedule for today at the East Richland High School softball field
    *  the Olney Lady Tigers will play Edwards County at 11:30
    *  then the Newton Lady Eagles play Fairfield at around 1:15
    *  the third place game will start at around 3:00
    *  then the championship game at around 4:45 or 5:00
*  there’s no admission charge with concessions will be available for purchase

(OLNEY)  the Richland County Athletic Association will host a fundraising “pancake and sausage” breakfast this morning at Pitas n’ More Restaurant, inside the Eagles’ Lodge, on North Fair Street in Olney, with serving from 7:00 to 10:00 – the $3.50 tickets will be available at the door and all the money raised will be used for various athletic community events in Richland County for Richland County residents – Saturday morning is also the signup date for those interested in the new Richland County Women’s Volleyball League – that’s from 7:00 to 10:00 this morning – for details, call Ed at 618-837-0662

    *  Payton Billington led Olney with 3 hits and 4 RBI – Tyler Zuber had 2 hits and 1 RBI
    *  Dylan Taylor was the winning pitcher, giving up no runs and only two hits
    *  the NCC hits came from Collin Klingler and Noah Wilkin
*  while Olney improves to 2&1 on the year, the Wildcats drop back to 1&4 on the year
*  the Tigers are scheduled to play a non-conference game today at Flora
*  the Wildcats return to action next Monday when they host Lawrenceville in Clay City

 

(NEWTON) in High School Baseball yesterday – Newton won its season opener on the road
*  the Eagles beat Altamont, 8-2 - Newton outhit the host Indians, 11 to 6
    *  Tanner Shell was Newton’s winning pitcher, allowing one run on four hits in five innings
    *  at the plate – Caleb Chesnut had 2 hits and 2 RBI – Allen Taylor also had 2 hits

*  opening night at the high bank, oval track, is tomorrow night, along Route 45, north of Flora
*  racing will include non-wing sprints, UMP modifieds, UMP B-Mods, Pure Stocks, and Hornets
*  gates will open at 4:30, a driver’s meeting at 6:30 followed by Hot Laps and then racing at 7:30

*  the Lady Knights lost the first game to Danville Area College, 6-1
*  but the OCC Ladies came back to win game two, 11-3 in six innings
*  the Lady Knights are now 19&7 on the year, still 3&5 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference
*  the OCC Ladies have already cancelled their GRAC doubleheader at home this afternoon

(NOBLE)  in High School Baseball yesterday – Noble/Clay City won a non-MTC game on the road
*  the Wildcats beat Grayville, 14-4 as they outhit the host Bison, 10 to 8 in seven innings
    *  NCC’s Mason Armstrong was the winning pitcher in six innings of work
    *  the Wildcat’s top hitter was John Ausbrook with 4 hits and 4 RBI
    *  also for NCC, Aaron Beck had 2 hits, 2 runs scored, and 1 RBI
*  now at 1&3 on the year, the Wildcats are back in action today at Olney against the Tigers

 

(NEWTON)  in one other High School Baseball score yesterday
*  Lawrenceville beat Oblong, 11-5

 

(OLNEY)  in High School Girl’s Soccer – the Olney Lady Tigers have had their season opener cancelled
*  the Lady Tiger's road match at Mattoon against the Lady Green Wave is postponed to tomorrow
*  the Olney squad will have their home opening soccer match in Olney next Tuesday, April 1st

 

(NEWTON)  in High School Baseball – the Newton Eagles open up their season on the road
*  the Eagles are on the road to Altamont for their season opener against the Indians
*  the Newton JV squad will be at home to host the Charleston JV tomorrow afternoon

(FLORA)  the Clay County Speedway is preparing for its season opening weekend
*  opening night at the high bank, oval track, is this Saturday night, along Route 45, north of Flora
*  racing will include non-wing sprints, UMP modifieds, UMP B-Mods, Pure Stocks, and Hornets
*  gates will open at 4:30, a driver’s meeting at 6:30 followed by Hot Laps and then racing at 7:30

(NEWTON)  Newton Community High School will host the 2nd Annual DodgeBall Tournament this coming Saturday evening at 5:30 – admission is at only $2 per person with plenty of concessions available – all proceeds go towards the Newton Elementary Mentoring & Leadership / PBIS Programs - all are invited

 

(OLNEY)  the Richland County Athletic Association will host a fundraising “pancake and sausage” breakfast this Saturday morning at Pitas n’ More Restaurant, inside the Eagles’ Lodge, on North Fair Street in Olney, with serving from 7:00 to 10:00 – the $3.50 tickets will be available at the door and all the money raised will be used for various athletic community events in Richland County for Richland County residents – Saturday morning is also the signup date for those interested in the new Richland County Women’s Volleyball League – that’s from 7:00 to 10:00 Saturday morning – for details, call Ed at 618-837-0662
