(OLNEY)  in Major League Baseball ,

The Cardinals beat the Reds 4-3, Pirates over the Cubs 7-5 and the White Sox beat the Rays 6-5

 

(OLNEY) the Olney All Stars won the 12 year old Little League State Tournament in Lansing last night, defeating Western Springs in the second and final championship game, 12-4 as Olney outhit Western Springs, 12 to 8 - Olney becomes only the second downstate team from District One and Section One to win the 12 year old State Tournament since Robinson did it way back in 1964 - Olney will now represent Illinois in the Great Lakes Region Tournament in Indianapolis with their first game in the six team, double elimination tournament this Sunday night at 7:00 against the Michigan team from Bay City - congratulations to all the players, coaches, parents, and others representing Olney Little League

(OLNEY) a parade to welcome back the 12 year old State Little League Champs to Olney will be held later tonight with the public encouraged to attend - the parade will start at 7:30 leaving Bower Park, north on Whittle Avenue, then east on East Main Street, then north on East Street, back west on Mack Avenue, then south on Silver Street, to Musgrove Park, where a special ceremony will be held to welcome to the champs back to Richland County - fans are encouraged to line Main Street and East Street as the Champs ride an Olney Fire Truck with a special police escort to Musgrove Park - let's turn out to support Illinois' second ever downstate Little League champions
 

 

 

(OLNEY) Olney Jr Pro Football practice has a change in location from the Richland County Elementary school to the Musgrove Park soccer field. This will give the Jr Pro players an opportunity to cheer on the 11/12 All star baseball team as they ride in the parade route along East Street to the baseball diamonds.

 

                                         LOCAL AND AREA SPORTS REMINDERS

(OLNEY) Richland High School will be hosting an athletic meeting for parents, coaches, and student athletes who plan to participate in highs school athletics during the 2015-16 school year.  The meeting will be held on Thursday, August 6th at 6:00 p.m. in the Richland County High School Sliva Auditorium.  Fall sports coaches will also be conducting meetings for their respective sports.  It is recommended that all students who plan to participate in athletics during the 2015-2016 school year attend the meeting. 

 

(OLNEY) RCHS student athletes that did not get a physical when offered at RCHS last spring need to make sure they have a current physical before participating in first day of practice on August 10th for football and August 12th for all other fall sports. Physicals are valid for one calendar year from the date of the physical. All incoming freshman’s school physical does count for an athletic physical

 

(OLNEY) Richland County Middle School will be hosting an athletic meeting for parents,

coaches and student athletes who plan to participate in middle school athletics during

the 20152016 school year. The meeting will be held Thursday, August 13 at 6:00 PM

in the middle school gymnasium. Coaches will also be conducting meetings for their

respective sports. It is strongly recommended that all parents and students who plan to

participate in athletics during the 20152016

school year attend.

 

(OLNEY)On Monday, August 17, there will be a representative available from Richland

Memorial Hospital who will be administering sports physicals. This service will be

offered in the middle school cafeteria from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The cost of the

physical will be $25. REMINDER: RCMS student athletes need to make sure they

have a current physical on file before participating in tryouts, practices, or for competing

in a sport. Physicals are valid for 395 days from the date of the physical was completed.

 

(OLNEY) Saturday, August 8 will be the Jr Pro Football Media Night, featuring scrimmage games with the 3rd/4th grades, the 5th/6th grade teams and the 7th/8th grade teams. Yhe event will take place at the Richland County High School football field from 5pm to around 8pm. This is a time to watch the players scrimmage and take pictures. This is a free event and concessions will be available.

(OLNEY) 10 year old state little league at River Forest - Olney was eliminated by Elmhurst 12-1 . Congrats to the Olney 10 yr. olds on a great run, winning the District, Sub-State and going 2 and 2 in the State Tournament.

 

(OLNEY) 12 year old championship game Olney lost to Western Springs 9-6 . The Cardinals and Reds open a three games series at Great American Ball Park tonight.

 

(OLNEY) 10 year old state little league at River Forest - Olney eliminated Riverside last night, 9-7 and move on to play another elimination round game tonight at 5:30 against Elmhurst, who beat Olney in the first round game Saturday afternoon - only four teams remain in the 8-team double elimination tournament - be listening for 10 year old updates tonight during the 12 year old broadcast from Lansing - Cardinals will be aired on CBS Sports Radio

(OLNEY)  in Major League Baseball , involving our Midwestern teams

the Cardinals beat the Rockies on Friday 7-0, Rockies beat St. Louis Saturday 6-2 and on Sunday, the Cardinals over the Rockies 3-2. The Cardinals and Reds open a three games series at Great American Ball Park on Tuesday night.

 

(OLNEY) In Little League Baseball, the Olney 12 Year Old All Stars won their opening game on Friday night over Oglesby 4-0, then on Sunday afternoon Olney defeated West Springs 9-5. Olney is now undefeated and moves into the State Tournament Championship on Tuesday Night.

 

(OLNEY) In Little League Baseball , Olney 9&10 Year Old All Stars Baseball State Tournament at River Forest, Illinois with eight teams involved this weekend. On Saturday, Elmhurst defeated Olney 10-0,

Then Olney bounced back early Sunday Morning defeating Rochelle 15-3. Olney plays tonight in an elimination game.

 

(NEWTON) Newton finished third place over the weekend at the State Jr. Legion Tournament held at Quincy. In game one, Newton defeated Danville Gold 1-0, Mitch Jansen pitched a complete game shutout, John Grunloh with an RBI. In game two, Breese Gray defeated Newton 8-0. In game three, Newton defeated Shelby County 9-2, Nate Meinhart pitched the complete game victory, Tim Weber with a triple, and two runs batted in and Mitch Jansen had a double, triple and two RBI’s. In game four, Breese defeated Newton 4-3. Mitch Jansen, Tim Weber and John Grunloh made the all tournament team. Newton finished the season at 26-8, third place in State and won the Altamont Summer Slammin’ Tournament.

Parents of junior high students who want to participate should attend this meeting. (OLNEY) In Little League Baseball, the Olney 12 Year Old All Stars are preparing for the State Tournament in Lansing starting tonight with a first round game at 8pm vs Oglesby on WVLN.
