(OLNEY)  in Junior College Baseball yesterday – Olney Central College loses on the road
the Blue Knights lost a conference game at Southwestern Illinois, 5-0
now at 12&10, OCC falls to 3&7 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference
the Blue Knights are scheduled to host a GRAC doubleheader with SWIC tomorrow on Conley Field

 

(OLNEY)  in Junior College Softball yesterday – the Lady Knights swept two non-GRAC games at home
the OCC women took two from visiting Parkland College
* the Lady Knights won the first game, 8-7 in nine innings – winning pitcher was Allexus Lemon
* the Lady Knights won the second game, 10-2 in six innings – winning pitcher was Christian Chambers
now at 20&8 overall, the Lady Knights are scheduled to host a GRAC twin-bill with Lake Land today

 

(NEWTON)  in High School Baseball yesterday – Newton had a come from behind win at Olney
the Eagles overcame a three-run deficit to beat the host Tigers, 4-3 although Olney outhit Newton, 9 to 5
* Newton’s Blake Probst was the winning pitcher, allowing no runs in the final two innings of the game
* Tim Weber had 2 hits and 1 RBI, while Mitch Bierman and Brock Mammoser each had an RBI double
* for Olney, Troy Houchin had 2 hits, Connor Adams with an RBI double, and Luke Lambird an RBI single
while Newton improves to 3&2 on the year, the Olney Tigers falls back to 2&4 on the year
the Eagles are scheduled to return to varsity action at home next Monday against Cumberland
the Tigers are scheduled to play tomorrow against Cumberland at Millspaugh Field in Olney

 

(NEWTON)  in High School Softball yesterday – Newton lost a tough one on the road
the Lady Eagles lost at Mattoon, 2-0 as the host Lady Green Wave outhit Newton, 5 to 2
* Newton’s top hitters were Maddie Stanley and Kristen Hardiek, each with a single apiece
now at 4&2, the Lady Eagles are scheduled to play at Olney this afternoon in non-LIC action

(OLNEY)  in Boys High School Track & Field from this past Monday – Olney did well on the road
the Track Tigers finished 2nd at a Quad Meet in Effingham, just 3 points behind the first place Hearts
host Effingham had 81 points, Olney had 78 points, followed by Cumberland with 38 and Altamont with 38
the Olney Tigers won nine of the eighteen events, with fourteen other top five finishes
* Gus Lathrop won 3 events, the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, & long jump – 2nd in the 400 meter dash
* Tate Nohren won the 110 meter hurdles and the triple jump, and was 3rd in the 300 meter hurdles
* Matthew DeVenecia, Silven Stallard, Dalyn Brach, and Michael DeMeyer won the 3200 meter relay
* Michael DeMeyer won the 800 meter run
* Cameron Howard, Addison Craig, Noah Allen, and Gavin Lathrop won the 800 meter relay
* Matthew DeVenecia won the 1600 meter run
* Ben Lynch was 2nd in the pole vault
* Trevor Jones was 2nd in the discus
* Gavin Lathrop was 2nd in the 100 meter dash
* Cameron Howard, Addison Craig, Noah Allen, and Gavin Lathrop was 2nd in the 400 meter relay
* Erik Sager finished 3rd in both the discus and shot put
* Silven Stallard was 3rd in the 800 meter run
* Dalyn Brach was 3rd in the 1600 meter run

(OLNEY)  the Richland County Recreation Council will host its Bunny Hop 5K event this coming Saturday morning, starting at 9:00, at the Musgrove Aquatic Center – it’s all for fun with no t-shirts, no timers, and no trophies, plus only a $5 or donation entry fee – all are invited to come out this Saturday to either walk, hop, or run for the fun of it and for a healthier you – that’s at 9:00 Saturday morning in Musgrove Park

 

(NEWTON)  Lincoln Trail College near Robinson will host its third annual Illinois versus Indiana Spring Classic All-Star Basketball Games this Friday night – senior basketball players from area high schools in both Illinois and Indiana have been invited to take part with the girls game to start at 6:00, followed by the boys game at 7:30 – all are invited out to have a good time with the All-Stars this Friday night at LTC

* then the Lady Knights lost game two at Rend Lake, 11-3
now at 18&8 on the year, the Lady Knights are now 7&7 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference
the Lady Knights are back in action today with a non-GRAC doubleheader at Parkland College

the Tigers beat Fairfield, 24-5 in five innings as Olney outhit the host Mules, 19 to 7
* Pierce Jones was the winning pitcher while striking out five
* Olney’s top hitter was Reid Kocher with a single, double, home run, and 5 RBI
* Olney’s Gage Miller had 4 hits and 2 RBI, plus Connor Adams had 3 hits and 3 RBI
now at 2&3 on the year, the Tigers will host Newton today at Millspaugh Field starting at 4:15

the Tigers shutout the visiting Trojans from Charleston, 9-0
Olney won all six of the singles matches
* Derek Walker won the #1 singles match in two games
* Sterling Hostetter won the #2 singles match in two games
* Austin Urfer won the #3 singles match in two games
* Connor Walker won the #4 singles match in two games
* Cameron Pearcy won the #5 singles match in two games
* Brock VanBlaricum won the #6 singles match in three games
the Tigers won all three of the doubles matches in two games each
* Connor Walker and Brock VanBlaricum won the #1 doubles match

the Olney Central College Blue Knights dropped two of three games in Region 24 action
* the Blue Knights won a single game Saturday afternoon at home by beating Shawnee, 3-0
* but the Blue Knights lost two yesterday down south, at Shawnee, near Ullin, 9-1 and 6-5
now at 12&8 on the year, the Blue Knights remain 3&5 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference
the OCC Blue Knights are back in GRAC action tomorrow when they host Wabash Valley

 

(OLNEY)  in Junior College Softball
the OCC Lady Knights were postponed with two games Saturday, rescheduled for this afternoon
the Lady Knights are to play the GRAC twin-bill at Southwestern Illinois today, over at Belleville

 

(NEWTON)  in Boys & Girls High School Track – the Illinois Top Times Meet was held this past weekend
most commonly referred to as the unofficial “indoor state track meet” it was held up in Bloomington
several Newton Eagles and Lady Eagles competed in the various events in Class 1A
* on the girls side : McKendra Barthelme finished 2nd in the 60 meter hurdles and 2nd in the long jump
* on the boys side  :  Joe Stone finished 2nd in the 800 meter run
* there were other boys & girls who did well in their heat events, but no other top five finishers for Newton
the Lady Eagles are at home with Robinson, Marshall, Altamont, and Neoga this Thursday at NCHS
the Eagles are at Robinson on Thursday to also battle Marshall, Altamont, and Neoga

 

(OLNEY)  in Boys High School Track – the Illinois Top Times Meet was held this past weekend
most commonly referred to as the unofficial “indoor state track meet” it was held up in Bloomington
Olney’s Gus Lathrop was one of 16 statewide athletes invited to take part in the 200 meter dash in Class 2A
* Gus finished 6th overall in the 200 meter dash
* Gus was also one of 24 athletes invited to the 60 meter dash, although he did not qualify for the finals
both Olney boys & girls track will be on the road for a pair of quad meets at Effingham this afternoon

 

(OLNEY)  in Girls High School Soccer from over the weekend
the Olney Lady Tigers competed Saturday at the Kaskaskia Shootout, both the varsity and junior varsity
those results are not available at this time, we hope to have them for you in our sports report tomorrow

 

(OLNEY)  the downstate SIJHSAA State Volleyball Tournaments were this past Saturday
the Class S Tournament involved 16 teams at Herrin High School
* Trinity Lutheran of Stewardson won the state championship by winning four straight matches
* involving an area team - Cisne won its first match, but was eliminated in quarter-final action
* both New Hope and Selmaville were both eliminated in first round action
the Class M Tournament involved 8 teams at Nashville High School
* Unity Point won the state championship by winning three straight matches
* Norris City-Omaha-Enfield won its first match but was eliminated in a semi-final match
* both Fairfield and Christopher were eliminated in their quarter-final matches
the Class L Tournament involved 8 teams at Pinckneyville High School
* Harrisburg won the state championship by winning three straight matches
* Carmi won its first match, but then lost in its semi-final match
* both Flora and Mt. Vernon were eliminated in their quarter-final matches

(OLNEY)  among the cancellations today is the Olney JV Softball Tournament
there’s also a few other high school baseball and softball games cancelled today in the area as well

 

(OLNEY)  in Junior College Baseball and Softball – some rescheduled games are on the docket
the OCC Blue Knights are scheduled for GRAC action this weekend against Shawnee Community College
* game one of the three game series is scheduled for today on Conley Field here in Olney at 1:00
* the final two games will be a doubleheader at Shawnee CC down near Ullin tomorrow afternoon
meanwhile, the OCC Lady Knights have had their GRAC twin-bill today at Southwestern Illinois cancelled

the eight team Class L Tournament will be held at the Pinckneyville High School
* some of the teams are Flora, Carmi, Highland, Mt. Vernon, Harrisburg, and Waterloo

* some of the teams are Fairfield, Norris City-Omaha-Enfield, Breese, and Christopher
the sixteen team Class S Tournament will be held at the Herrin High School

(OLNEY)  a used baseball and softball equipment sale will be held today with all money raised to help Richland  County youngsters play ball – so dig out those used items and drop them off at the Musgrove Park pavilion this morning from 9:00 to 10:00 – this includes all cleats, socks, pants, sliding shorts & pads, helmets, bats, bags, & gloves – the sale is today from 9:00 to 5:00 at the Musgrove Park pavilion
