    *  elsewhere  :  Cubs beat Brewers, 5-2  :  Reds beat Pirates, 4-1  :  Royals beat White Sox, 6-4
    *  Indians beat Tampa Bay, 7-2  :  Twins lost to Detroit, 3-0
*  the American League Wild Card game is tomorrow night with Oakland at Kansas City
*  the National League Wild Card game is Wednesday night with San Francisco at Pittsburgh
*  the American League Division Series begins Thursday with the Angels hosting tomorrow night’s winner

*  the Newton Eagles lost a tough one at Robinson, 20-14 in double overtime
*  the Olney Tigers held on to beat the Flora Wolves, 42-34
*  Lawrenceville beat Casey-Westfield, 28-25
*  Marshall beat Paris, 62-6
*  Red Hill beat Edwards County, 46-0

 

(OLNEY)  in Boys High School Golf on Friday – the Trojan Fall Classic was held up in Charleston
*  Mattoon came out on top, winning the event, 11 strokes better than 2nd place Effingham, 301-312
*  rounding out the top six teams were Champaign Centennial, Mt. Zion, St. Anthony, and Monticello
*  then it was Danville and Rantoul tying for 7th, followed by Champaign Central and Robinson
*  rounding the rest of the teams were host Charleston, then Bloomington, Urbana, and Olney
    *  the Tigers top golfers were Blake Berry, Jake Kowa, Randy Goodman, and Luke Shan
*  Olney is back on the links today at the LIC Tournament at Oak Glen Golf Course in Crawford County

 

(OLNEY)  in Boys and Girls High School Cross Country Saturday – Olney did well at Lawrenceville
*  Olney won the girls race by the 6th runner rule, after the Lady Tigers tied Salem at 35 each
*  host Lawrenceville was 3rd with 58 points, followed by Mt. Carmel, Fairfield, and Dieterich
    *  the Lady Tigers were led by Holly Stallard in 2nd place
    *  other top ten medalists for Olney were Aaron Bromm 8th and Alicia Guzman 9th
    *  Olney’s Abby Rauch was 11th, Kylar Craig 13th, Lauren Eagleston 14th, and Jordan Laughlin 15th
    *  Salem’s Chloe Phillips won the race and her teammate, Emily Wade was 3rd
    *  Fairfield’s August Martinez was 4th and Mt. Carmel’s Madeline Jones was 6th
    *  Lawrenceville’s sister duo of Heather and Hannah Holmes finished 7th and 10th respectively
*  on the boys side, it was Salem finishing 1st, outrunning 2nd place Olney, 23 to 49
*  the host Indians were 3rd at 84, then Dieterich at 106, Mt. Carmel at 121, and then Fairfield and Odin
    *  Olney had Nathan DeMeyer in 7th place, Michael DeMeyer was 8th, and Dalyn Brach was 9th
    *  Fairfield’s Corbin Kakac won the 3 mile race and set a new course & meet record at 15:52
    *  Salem’s Brenner Webster was 2nd and Mt. Carmel’s Grady Wilkinson was 3rd
*  the Olney Tigers had three of the top five runners in the 3 mile Open Race
    *  Nathaniel Troester was 3rd, Martin DeVenecia was 4th, and Levi Wollard was 5th
    *  Olney’s lone girl runner, Sophia Colclasure, received a medal in the Open Race as well
*  the Olney runners are back on the course this Thursday at the Robinson Invitational

*  the Lady Tigers beat Effingham, 8-1 as Olney improves to 7&2 on the year, remaining 3&1 in the LIC
*  Olney won all six of the singles matches, all in two sets each – the individual winners respectively were
    *  Jaclyn Shan in the #1 match  :  Nicole Shan in the #2 match  :  Audrey Jensen in the #3 match
    *  Rachel Snyder in the #4 match  :  Rachel Woods in the #5 match  :  and Taloni Ginder in the #6 match
*  Olney won two of the three doubles matches, both in two sets each – the winning pairs were

*  the Lady Tigers lost the varsity match at Edwards County in two games, 19-25 and 18-25
    *  Olney’s top players were Blake Nohren, Taylor Hughes, Tanner Piercefield, and Haley Simpson
*  Olney lost the junior varsity match in three games, but won the freshmen match in three games

*  the Tigers finished 3rd as Effingham St. Anthony slipped by Mt. Carmel for the win, 167 to 168
*  the Match Medalist was St. Anthony’s Jared Hutchison with a four over par 39
*  with the total score at 186 for Olney, Blake Berry led the Tigers with a round of 44
    *  the other top Olney golfers were Randy Goodman (45), Jake Kowa (47), and Luke Shan (50)
*  the Tiger golfers are back on the links tomorrow afternoon up at the Charleston Invitational

 

(NEWTON)  the Sage City Marching Band Contest was this past Saturday up in Monticello
*  the Newton Marching Eagles won the Class B competition with a 66.9 total score
    *  Mt. Zion was 2nd just one point back at 65.9 – Robinson was 3rd, then Olympia and Tolono Unity
    *  Newton won the winds and drumline categories, with 2nd best scores for drum major and color guard
*  the Olney Marching Tigers finished 3rd in the Class A competition with 59 points
    *  Lincoln won Class A with 66.1 points, while Mattoon finished 2nd with 61.6 points
    *  Rantoul finished in 4th place, followed by Jacksonville in 5th place
    *  Olney was 2nd in color guard, received 3rd’s for the drumline and drum major, and a 5th for winds
*  Danville won the Class AA competition with Champaign Centennial finishing 2nd
*  Sullivan won Class C/D, followed by Bement in 2nd and the Oblong Marching Panthers in 3rd
*  the Olney Marching Tigers will perform at this Saturday’s Fall Festival in the Olney City Park
    *  the Marching Tigers then are in the Marching Maroons Band Festival in Robinson later on Saturday

 

(OLNEY)  in Boys and Girls Junior High Cross Country in Jasper County from this past Tuesday
*  the Olney Cubs won the boys varsity race, beating 2nd place Newton / Jasper County, 17 to 54
*  the Olney St. Joe Wildcats finished in a distant 3rd place with 75 points
    *  Olney’s Chase Williams won the 2 mile race, with Trey Nosek finishing 2nd and Brady Thompson 3rd
*  on the girls side, the Olney Lady Cubs were 3rd with 47 points, 8 points behind 2nd place Olney St. Joe
*  Newton / Jasper County won the girls varsity race by one point over Olney St. Joe, 38 to 39
    *  Olney’s Cameron Hough won the 2 mile race, with Tara Hughes finishing 7th and Jordan Laughlin 8th

*  the Cardinals lost a tough one-run game in 10 innings, falling to the Cubs, 4-3
    *  elsewhere  :  the Pirates beat Atlanta, 3-2  :  the Reds beat the Brewers, 3-1
    *  White Sox lost to Detroit, 4-3  :  Royals beat the Indians, 7-1  :  Twins beat Arizona, 6-3
*  with the series tied at a game each, the Cardinals are back in Chicago for the rubber game with the Cubs
    *  elsewhere this afternoon  :  the White Sox are in Detroit  :  the Twins will again host Arizona
    *  tonight  :  the Reds host Milwaukee  :  the Indians host the Royals  :  the Pirates are in Atlanta

 

(OLNEY)  in Boys High School Soccer yesterday – Olney won a big match on the road
*  the Tigers blanked Mt. Carmel, 3-0 improving Olney to 4 wins, 3 losses, and 3 ties
*  Derek Walker scored two of the goals for Olney, while Jacob Henry hit the other
*  the assists came from Ben Lynch, Marshall King, and Ben Baker – also great play from Jonah Buscher
*  Soccer Tigers are back on Ed Webber Field at OCC this Saturday when they host North Knox, Indiana

 

(OLNEY)  in Girls and Boys High School Cross Country yesterday – the Olney teams did well again
*  the Lady Tigers won the girls race at Robinson, edging out 2nd place Effingham, 41 to 44
*  Newton finished 9 back in 3rd place with 53 points and Robinson was last with 92 points
    *  Olney had six girls in the top 15, led by Kylar Craig in 6th place and Aaron Bromm in 7th
    *  Abby Rauch was 8th, Alicia Guzman was 9th, Jordan Laughlin 11th, and Lauren Eagleson 12th
*  on the boys side, the Tigers finished 2nd to host Robinson but only 6 points back, 29 to 35
*  Effingham finished 3rd with 79 points, followed by Newton at 90 and Hutsonville at 147
    *  Olney also had six guys in the top 15, led by Matthew DeVenecia 2nd and Nathan DeMeyer 3rd
    *  Dalyn Brach was 7th, Michael DeMeyer was 10th, Addison Craig 13th, and Silven Stallard 14th
* while the Lady Tigers remain undefeated at 9&0, the Tigers are now 10&3 on the year
*  the Olney squads are back on the course this Saturday at the Lawrenceville Invitational

 

(OLNEY)  in Girls High School Tennis yesterday – Olney won a tough non-conference match at home
*  the Lady Tigers edged out Teutopolis, 5 to 4 as Olney improves to 6&2 on the year
*  Olney won three of the six singles matches
    *  Nicole Shan won the #2 singles match
    *  Rachel Woods won the #5 singles match
    *  Taloni Ginder won the #6 singles match
*  the Lady Tigers won two of the three doubles matches
    *  Nicole Shan and Audrey Jensen won the #1 doubles match
    *  Jaclyn Shan and Taloni Ginder won the #3 doubles match
*  Teutopolis won the only junior varsity match in doubles action
*  the Lady Tigers are back on the courts tomorrow on the road at Effingham

*  the Lady Tigers lost the varsity match to Robinson in two games, 24-26 and 18-25
    *  Olney’s top players were Tanner Piercefield, Blake Nohren, Haley Simpson, and Courtney Kman
*  Robinson also won the junior varsity match in two games
*  the Lady Tigers are back in LIC action tomorrow night at Albion against Edwards County

 

(NEWTON)  in High School Volleyball last night – Newton swept a pair of conference matches at home
*  the Lady Eagles won the varsity match over Cumberland in two games, 25-15 and 25-12
    *  Newton's top players were Brooke Koebele, Hannah Litzleman, Taylor Johnson, and Kaitlyn Cohorst
*  Newton also won the junior varsity match in two games
*  now at 10&5 overall, the Lady Eagles are back in LIC action last night at Lawrenceville

*  Mattoon beat Lawrenceville / Red Hill, 148 to 167 – Casey-Westfield was 3rd at 195

 

(OLNEY)  in Boys and Girls Junior High Cross Country yesterday
*  the Olney St. Joe teams took part against Olney and Newton at Sam Parr State Park in Jasper County
*  the St. Joe girls finished a very close 2nd place to Newton / Jasper County, 39 to 38
*  the Olney Lady Cubs were just 8 points back in a close 3rd place finish
    *  St. Joe’s top runners were Haven Doll in 3rd place, Evelyn Atkins 6th, and Tristen Payne 9th
*  the Olney Cubs ran away with the boys varsity race, beating Newton / Jasper County, 17 to 54
*  the St. Joe Wildcats finished in a distant 3rd place with 75 points
    *  St. Joe’s top runners were Brent Hatten in 11th place and Cadin Ackman in 12th

 

(OLNEY)  also in Boys and Girls Junior High Cross Country from last Saturday’s Olney Invitational
*  the Olney Cubs won the varsity boys race, finishing 4 points better than 2nd place St. Anthony
    *  top Olney runners were Chase Williams in 3rd place and Trey Nosek in 8th
*  the Lady Cubs finished in 3rd place behind St. Anthony and St. Joe, just 2 points better than Newton
    *  top Olney runners were Cameron Hough who won the varsity race – Tara Hughes was 14th
*  in the junior varsity races : Olney’s Jarrett Fuson won the boys : Morgan Puckett was 3rd for the girls
