Golden State beat Cleveland, 110-77 as the Warriors now lead the series two games to none
game three will be Wednesday night in Cleveland

 

(OLNEY)  the National Hockey League playoffs continued over the weekend
the San Jose Sharks won game three Saturday night, beating Pittsburgh, 3-2 in overtime
with the Penguins leading the series two games to one,  game four is tonight back in San Jose

 

(OLNEY)  in Major League Baseball over the weekend
the Cardinals took two from the Giants, winning Saturday night, 6-4 and last night, 6-3
* other Midwestern teams to win two were the Tigers, Indians, Astros, and Rangers
* Midwestern teams that split on Saturday & Sunday were the Cubs, Reds, Pirates, and Brewers
* those that lost both games over the weekend were the White Sox, Royals, Twins, and Braves
the Redbirds are idle on this Monday – they’ll start a three games series tomorrow night in Cincinnati

(OLNEY)  the 2016 Richland Country Club Junior Golf  Program starts tomorrow morning, June 7th, at 7:30, and runs on six consecutive Tuesday mornings from 8:00 to 9:30 each morning – it’s open to local youth entering grades 3 thru 9 later this year – the cost is $50 per player, which is due tomorrow – areas covered include basic swing fundamentals, putting, chipping, overall golf rules, and etiquette – the players should supply their own golf balls and clubs, plus proper attire is required (no gym shorts or tank tops) – for more information or details, call RCHS Golf Coach Curt Nealis at  618-839-5726

(NEWTON)  the IHSA State Bass Fishing Finals were held two weekends ago on Carlyle Lake
the team from Elverado High School in Elkville is the State Bass Fishing Champions
* the Falcons beat out two boats from Highland that finished in second place and third place
* the Elverado team caught ten total bass in two days of fishing, weighing in at just over 21 pounds
there were a few other area teams that took part in the State Bass Fishing Tournament
* boats from Robinson, Paris, Centralia, and Woodlawn advanced out of their respective sectionals
* the Robinson team included Wade Lassen, Cam Neese, and Hunter Givens
* the Robinson team was directed by Coach Tim Nolen and Boat Driver Mike Buchanan
three boats from each sectional (held two weeks earlier) advanced to the State Tournament
advancing teams from the Forbes Lake Sectional were Centralia (1st), Robinson (2nd), and Woodlawn (3rd)
* one of the two teams from Newton finished in a very close 4th place and was an alternate team for State
* that Eagles’ top team included Morits Mulke, Brock Poehler, Draven Zuber, and Walker Goodwin
* Newton’s Fishing Coach is Rob Street while the Boat Driver was Preston Street
* that team finished just a tenth-of-an-ounce behind the third place team from Woodlawn
* the other Newton team included Brock McMorris, John Grunloh, Ryan Hagen, and Giuseppe Cucinella
* other teams at Forbes were from Teutopolis, Salem, South Central (Farina), Carlyle, and Wayne City

(OLNEY)  the 2016 Richland Country Club Junior Golf  Program starts next week and will be held on six consecutive Tuesday mornings open to local youth who’ll be entering grades 3 thru 9 later this year – the cost is $50 per player, which is due on the first day registration at 7:30 next Tuesday morning, June 7th, at the Richland Country Club driving range – the program runs from 8:00 until 9:30 each morning with RCHS Golf Coach Curt Nealis and RCHS golf team members offering the instruction – areas covered will include basic swing fundamentals, putting, chipping, overall golf rules, and etiquette – the instruction time will be on the driving range, the practice green, and the golf course – players should supply their own clubs & balls, plus proper attire is required (no gym shorts or tank tops) – for more, call Coach Nealis at 618-839-5726

 

(OLNEY)  the 2016 Olney Tiger Wrestling Camp is coming up next week, to be held in Ron Herrin Gym, at Richland County High School in Olney – it’s for those who’ll be entering grades Kindergarten thru 12th grade later this year and will be held next Monday thru Thursday, June 6th thru 9th – it’s K thru 5th grades from 8:00 to 10:00 each morning and for 6th thru 12th grades from 10:00 to 12:00 noon – those taking part should arrive 20 minutes before their session to begin warm-ups – the cost is only $30 with t-shirts included and if cost is an issue, contact Coach Tommy Leslie – the focus will be on wrestling fundamentals and on advanced wrestling techniques – all are invited, no wrestling experience required – call  618-843-1545

(OLNEY)  the Olney Central College baseball program will host its annual High School Showcase a week from today, on Wednesday, June 8th, on Conley Field at OCC – it’s for all area high school players as all position players will be evaluated on foot speed, throwing accuracy, arm strength, fielding ability, and hitting skills – pitchers will be evaluated on arm strength, control, secondary pitches, make-up, and more – registration for the position players begins at 9:00 that morning with the session running from 9:30 to 12:30 – registration for pitchers will start at 1:00 with the session running from 1:30 until it’s over – the cost is $60 for one session or $90 for both – registration forms are due back to OCC by this Friday, June 3rd – late registration forms accepted that day will include an additional $10 – for more, call OCC at  618-395-7777
