(OLNEY)  in Men’s NCAA Baseball – the National Tournament’s Super Regionals are this weekend
the Fighting Illini will host Vanderbilt in one of the eight Super Regionals across the country
it’s the best of three series to be played on Illinois Field in Champaign
game one is tomorrow night at 7:00, with game two scheduled for Sunday night at 8:00
if game three is needed, it will be played next Monday, either at 12:00, 3:00, 6:00, or 7:00
while Illinois comes in with a record at 50-8-1, Vanderbilt is at 45-19
all the Super Regional winners advance to the College World Series

Class 1A Semi-Final  :  Wayne City (MTC Champs) plays Hardin Calhoun at 10:00 this morning
Class 1A Semi-Final  :  Somonauk plays Sterling Newman Central Catholic at 12:30 this afternoon
Class 2A Semi-Final  :  Brimfield plays Kankakee McNamara at 3:00 today

(OLNEY)  registration for Olney Junior Pro Cheerleading will be held the final two Tuesdays in June at the Musgrove House near the ball diamonds – that’s from 5:00 to 8:00 each night, June 23rd  and June 30th, for girls who’ll be entering 1st thru 8th grades this fall – the registration fee of  $105 includes an actual cheer uniform, cheer shoes, and a hair bow, plus poms will be available for purchase for an additional $20 – girls must be present at the signups for measuring and parents must use the Musgrove parking lots and walk up the service road to the Musgrove house – the girls will cheer at the Saturday Junior Pro Football games, beginning in mid-August, continuing thru mid-October – for games out of town, parents will be responsible for transportation – for information, call Kaylea at  618-508-3171  or Facebook Kristi Angle Crawford

(OLNEY)  Olney Central College will host two softball camps next week – the OCC coaches & players will conduct a “hitting & fielding” camp on Monday, June 8th, and a “pitching & catching” camp on Tuesday, June 9th, all at the OCC softball field – on both days, players ages 6 to 12 will meet from 10:00 to 12 noon each morning, and players ages 13 to 17 will meet from 1:00 to 3:00 each afternoon – the cost is $25 for one day or $40 for both camps – pre-register online at www.olneycentralathletics.com

* it’s a shortened 11 game schedule for this Monday, six of which involve Midwestern teams

one Regional is being host by the University of  Illinois up in Champaign
* in game one Friday – Notre Dame beat Wright State, 13-7
* in game two Friday night – Illinois beat Ohio, 10-3 as the Illini improve to 48&7 on the year
after the games were rained out Saturday and postponed until yesterday
* in the first elimination round game – Wright State beat Ohio, 8-3
* in the winner’s bracket game yesterday – Illinois shutout Notre Dame, 3-0
* and in the next elimination round game last night – Wright State beat Notre Dame, 4-0
the regional’s final game and/or games will be today up in Champaign on Illinois Field
* the championship game will be played at 1:00 this afternoon with Illinois up against Wright State

Cahokia won the State Meet while Harrisburg tied for 18th – Mattoon and Salem tied for 35th
Effingham tied for 41st, Mt. Vernon tied for 50th, and Olney finished 58th among the 70 teams
one Olney Tiger competed in the finals
* Gus Lathrop finished 7th in the 200 meter dash
a few other area athletes also competed in the state finals
* Harrisburg’s Kane Carrigan was 2nd in the discus throw
* Mattoon’s Jacob Wagner was 3rd in the discus throw
* Effingham’s Sean Zerrusen was 4th in the 800 meter run
* Mt. Vernon’s Logan Kulinski was 5th in the pole vault
* Salem’s Brenner Webster was 6th in the 1600 meter run

Tolono Unity won the State Meet, followed by Carthage, Arcola, Tuscola, and Staunton among 82 teams
St. Anthony tied for 20th, Fairfield & Neoga tied for 26th, Casey-Westfield was 30th, Robinson was 36th
Teutopolis was 41st, Cisne tied for 42nd, Cumberland tied for 48th, and Newton tied for 56th
two Newton Eagles competed in the finals
* Joe Stone finished 6th in the 800 meter run
* Matthew Tolliver-Goode finished 11th in the pole vault
several other area athletes competed in the state finals

Hinsdale Central won another State Championship, followed closely by 2nd place LaGrange
Belleville East was tied for 12th, Edwardsville was tied for 15th, O’Fallon was tied for 20th
all of our downstate area players were eliminated on Thursday, most in two rounds, a few after three rounds
players from Olney, Flora, Teutopolis, St. Anthony, Mattoon, Casey-Westfield, Centralia, & Effingham
