(OLNEY)  in Major League Action last night – the Cardinals were in action at Atlanta
the Redbirds defeated the host Braves, 7-1 as the Cardinals won their first game of the year
St. Louis will play Atlanta again tonight in game two of the three game series

 

(OLNEY)  in the National Hockey League – both the Blues and Blackhawks were idle last night
the St. Louis squad returns to action tonight at home against the Washington Capitals
the Chicago Blackhawks are on the road tonight to play the Blue Jackets in Columbus

 

(OLNEY)  in Boys High School Tennis yesterday – Olney was on the road in tournament play
Centralia hosted teams from Olney, Carbondale, and Effingham St. Anthony
the Tigers won only one of the six singles matches against Carbondale
* Adam Brewer won the #3 singles match in two sets
Olney won only one of the five doubles matches against host Centralia
* Austin Urfer and Brock VanBlaricum won the #2 doubles match in two sets
the Tigers are among three teams that will play today at the Flora Doubles Tournament

the Blue Knights enter today’s action at 32-6 overall and 10-2 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference
game one will begin at straight up 12:00 noon today with the second game at around 3:00

 

(OLNEY)  in Junior College Softball today – Olney Central College is also at home in Olney
the Lady Knights will host a GRAC twinbill with Southeastern Illinois at Olney Central College
the Lady Knights begin today’s action at 27-18 overall and 7-10 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference
game one is scheduled for a 2:00 start, with the second game to begin at around 4:00

 

(OLNEY)  in High School Softball – the Lawrenceville Softball Invitational Tournament is today
the three and three game round robin team tournament will be held later this afternoon
* the first game at 2:00 features the host Lady Indians against Carmi
* then the Olney Lady Tigers will play the Lady Bulldogs at around 3:30
* and the tournament’s final game at around 5:30 will have Olney against host Lawrenceville
concessions will be available and there is no charge for admission – all are welcome

 

(OLNEY)  in Boys High School Tennis – the Flora Doubles Tournament is today over at Frog Island
the Wolves’ annual event will involves two other teams, the Olney Tigers and the Fairfield Mules

it’s a full slate of major league baseball across the country on this Friday night

it took overtime, but the St. Louis Blues slipped by the Chicago Blackhawks, 2-1
* other Midwestern winners were the Stars and the Flames
with only one game on the ice tonight, both the Blues and Blackhawks are idle this Friday night
both are back at it tomorrow night – St. Louis will host Washington while Chicago’s in Columbus

the Blue Knights defeated Lincoln Trail College, 24-6 as OCC outhit the Statesmen, 21 to 9

(OLNEY)  in Junior College Softball yesterday – Olney Central College was in action on the road
the Lady Knights lost one and had their second extra inning game suspended due to lightning
* Rend Lake won the first game, 5-1 and game two was suspended while tied at 5-5 in the ninth inning
the Lady Knights are now 27-18 and 7-10 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference
the OCC ladies are back in GRAC action tomorrow at home when they host Southeastern Illinois

the Tigers shutout Red Hill, 8-0 as visiting Olney outhit the host Salukis, 8 to 3
* Dylan Hires got the win, allowing no runs and striking out six in six innings of work
* sophomore Mason Kocher led Olney at the plate with 2 hits, 2 RBI, and 1 run scored
* Trey Puckett had 2 hits and 1 run scored – Connor Adams had an RBI single
now at 6-3 overall, the Tigers are 1-0 in the Little Illini Conference
Olney plays again today as they’ll host Mt. Carmel in non-LIC action on Bill Millspaugh Field

the Eagles beat Casey-Westfield, 10-0 in six inning as Newton outhit the Warriors, 9 to 2
* Mitch Jansen got the win, allowing no runs and striking out three in five innings of work
* at the plate, Mitch Bierman had 2 hits and 3 RBI – Luke Geier had 2 hits and 2 RBI
* John Grunloh also had 2 hits and an RBI
the Eagles improve to 3-4 overall, now 1-0 in the Little Illini Conference
Newton returns to LIC conference action next Monday when they host Flora

Olney won all three of the junior varsity doubles matches

the Lady Tigers fell to Mt. Vernon, Illinois, 4-nil as the visiting Lady Rams out-shot Olney
* the Lady Tigers were led in good play by Allison Herman and Megan Heindselman
there was no junior varsity game
the Lady Tigers are back in action next Tuesday when they’ll host Centralia in Olney

* those that lost included the White Sox, Twins, Astros, and Braves  :  the Cubs and Royals were both idle
the Cardinals are off today before starting a weekend series tomorrow night in Atlanta against the Braves

both St. Louis and Chicago were idle on Wednesday night
* the NHL winners last night included the Oilers and the Blue Jackets

the host Lady Green Wave beat out second place Newton, 140 to 94
Olney was third with 74 points, followed by Effingham St. Anthony at 28 and Paris at 27
* the Lady Eagles had twelve top three finishes in the meet
Newton won six of the total eighteen events
* McKendra Barthelme won three events – the 400 meter dash, the 100 meter high hurdles, & the long jump
* Sarah Carr won the 3200 meter run
* Molly Giacone, Mallory Bergbower, Alex Haarman, and Taylor Johnson won the 400 meter relay
* Sarah Carr, Jacklyn Barthelme, McKendra Barthelme, and Taylor Johnson won the 1600 meter relay
the Lady Eagles had three 2nd place finishes

Charleston used a new scoring system with several malfunctions, therefore the scores are “unofficial”
Mt. Zion won the event by beating out second place Paris by eight points, 77 to 69
the host Trojans were a close third with 66 points and the Olney Tigers were close behind with 63 points
Mattoon finished in a distant fifth place with 52 points
* the Olney Tigers had a total nine top three finishes in the meet
Olney won three of the seventeen events
* Derek Deimel won the shot put
* Michael DeMeyer won the 1600 meter run
* Gavin Lathrop won the 200 meter dash
there were four 2nd place finishes for Olney
* Trevor Jones in the discus throw
* Dalton Mitchell in the 400 meter dash
* Noah Allen, Ryan Shipley, Cameron Howard, and Gavin Lathrop in the 400 meter relay
* Noah Allen, Ryan Shipley, Cameron Howard, and Gavin Lathrop in the 800 meter relay
two Tigers had 3rd place finishes

the Blue Knights won a single nine inning game by beating Danville Area Community College, 13-2
OCC is now 31-6 on the year, having won four in row and eleven of their last thirteen games
the Blue Knights take their 9-2 GRAC record into action tomorrow at Lincoln Trail against the Statesmen

the Tigers defeated the visiting Eagles, 9-0 by winning all of the matches played
* Connor Walker won the #1 singles match in two sets
* Austin Urfer won the #2 singles match in two sets
* Brock VanBlaricum won the #3 singles match in two sets
* Tanner Hendrickson won the #4 singles match in two sets
* Kye Stallard won the #5 singles match in two sets
* Marshall King won the #6 singles match in two sets

the Lady Tigers slipped by Robinson in non-LIC action, 5-4 as Olney outhit the visiting Maroons, 10 to 8
* at the plate, Olney was led by Sophia Colclasure with 2 hits and 2 RBI
* Paige Ginder had an RBI double while Sarah Hill and Dani Hawkins each had a 2 hit day
* Sophia Colclasure got the win allowing 3 earned runs and striking out 4

* Tanner Hout had an RBI single and Ethan Eagleson had a double
now at 5-3, the Tigers will begin LIC conference action tomorrow at Bridgeport against Red Hill

(OLNEY)  the 1st Annual “Putt-Putt For Kid’s Sake” is coming up on Saturday, May 21st, all to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Richland County – it’s 9 holes of miniature golf with each hole located at a different location in Olney – at The Eagles Lodge, the VFW, Bobalou’s, the Fireside, the Elk’s Lodge, The Holiday, Friday Nite Lites, El Rancherito, and the Richland Country Club – registration begins at 10:30 that morning at The Eagles Lodge in Olney with tee time at 11:00 – participants must be 21 to enter – green fees are $30 per person or $120 for a four-person team with entry fees to be mailed to 801 South West Street, Suite 117, Olney – food & t-shirts included – plus Rides Mass Transit will take the players from hole to hole courtesy of Richland Memorial Hospital – prizes to the highest & lowest scores – check their Facebook page for info

(NEWTON)  in National Hockey League action last night involving Midwestern teams
the St. Louis Blues were victorious as they beat the Coyotes, 5-2
the Blues are off tonight, although the Chicago Blackhawks are back in action as they host the Coyotes

 

(OLNEY)  in Junior College Softball yesterday – Olney Central College split two on the road
the Lady Knights were at Kaskaskia College, losing the first game, 4-3 but winning game two, 5-2
the OCC softball squad is now 27-15 on the year, now 7-7 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference
the Lady Knights are quickly back in action today hosting Wabash Valley with games at 2:00 and 4:00

the Blue Knights took two from Kentucky Wesleyan College, 5-3 and 14-1
the OCC baseball team is now 30-6 as they stay at 9-2 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference
the Blue Knights are at home today for a single nine inning game against Danville Area College at 3:00

 

(OLNEY) in Boys High School Tennis yesterday – Olney finished a suspended match from last week
the Tigers defeated Fairfield, 8 to 1
Olney won four of the singles matches last Wednesday before the rains came
* Connor Walker won the #1 singles match in two sets
* Austin Urfer won the #2 singles match in two sets
* Tanner Hendrickson won the #4 singles match in two sets
* Marshall King won the #6 singles match in two sets
Olney finished singles’ action with a victory
* Kye Stallard won the #5 singles match in three sets
Olney won all three of the doubles matches
* Connor Walker and Austin Urfer won the #1 doubles match in two sets
* Brock VanBlaricum and Kye Stallard won the #2 doubles match in two sets
* Marshall King and Adam Brewer won the #3 doubles match in two sets
in junior varsity play, Olney won all of the 14 doubles matches and 2 singles matches

the Tigers played well and came away with a five inning win over Oblong, 12-2
* Olney’s winning pitcher was Connor Adams, allowing only 3 hits and striking out 6
* three Tigers had two hits each – Hunter Wyatt, Trey Puckett, and Tanner Hout
the 5-2 Tigers are back at it today at Teutopolis against the Wooden Shoes

the Eagles lost to Cumberland, 8-3 as the host Pirates outhit visiting Newton, 9 to 7

the Lady Tigers lost to visiting Oblong, 3-1 as the Lady Panthers outhit host Olney, 7 to 1
