the Cardinals fell to the Brewers in Milwaukee, 3-1
* the Midwestern teams that won were the Cubs, Indians, Tigers, Astros, Rangers, and Braves
* the Midwestern teams that lost were the White Sox, Royals, Pirates, Reds, and Twins
the Cardinals are idle today – they’ll start a three game weekend series tomorrow night in Cincinnati

 

(OLNEY)  in Boys High School Golf yesterday – Olney lost a tough match at the Richland Country Club
Olney fell to Oblong, 193 to 222
* the Match Medalist was Oblong’s Tyler Musgrove with a low round 43
* Coen McDowell had Olney’s lowest score at 47, followed by Randy Goodman two strokes back at 49
* Olney’s Luke Shan shot a 62 and Ryan Tolliver had a 64
* the Match Medalist for girls was Oblong’s Nyah Laino with a 53
* Olney’s Madeline McKinney was two strokes back at 55 while Abigail Nealis shot a 63
the Olney golfers will be back at it tomorrow when they host the Olney Invitational at the Country Club

* Gavin Dorn carried the ball 12 times for 97 total yards and Olney’s only touchdown

(OLNEY)  the Olney Junior Football League has fundraising raffle tickets on sale from all players and parents with four guns to be given away – the drawing will be held during the final day of home games in Olney, on Saturday, September 24th – the tickets are $5 each or four for $20 and get one free – tickets can also be purchased at the home games in Olney – all proceeds will help purchase equipment & uniforms

 

(NEWTON)  the Newton American Legion Post 20 Senior and Junior Legion Baseball teams will have a fundraising pork burger sale on Saturday, September 17th, with serving from 10:30 to 1:00, at the Legion Post in Newton – all proceeds go to help the costs of fielding the next Legion Baseball teams in Newton

(NEWTON)  in Boys High School Soccer yesterday – Newton won a big match on the road
the Eagles beat Pana, 3-1
* Newton was led defensively by goalie Gavin Fehrenbacher with 16 total saves in the match
* Jack Chapman scored all three goals for the Eagles on six total shots
* other Newton shots came from Ben Carr, Cole Farley, and Sean Brody
at 2-0-2, the Soccer Eagles are back in action tomorrow at Altamont

the host Lady Tigers held on to beat Casey-Westfield, 5 to 4
Olney won three of the six singles matches
* Nicole Shan in the #1 match
* Audrey Jensen in the #2 match

Olney won two of the three doubles matches

Hutsonville-Palestine was sixth with 131 points and Effingham St. Anthony was seventh at 179
Olney had four top twenty runners in yesterday’s race
* Michael DeMeyer finished 2nd overall
* Nathan DeMeyer was nine seconds back, finishing 3rd
* Owen Powell was 12th and Tyler Hughes was 16th

the Cardinals dropped two to the Oakland A’s, losing Saturday night, 3-2 and losing yesterday, 7-4
* the Midwestern teams that won two were the White Sox, Pirates, and Rangers
* the Midwestern teams that lost two were the Cubs, Indians, Brewers, Tigers, and Twins
* the Midwestern teams that split two were the Royals, Reds, Braves, and Astros
the Cardinals start up a three game series tonight in Milwaukee against the Brewers

 

(OLNEY)  the IHSA Football season began this past weekend throughout Illinois
there were four Little Illini Conference games Friday night involving eight of the nine LIC teams
* the Olney Tigers defeated the Lawrenceville Indians, 21-18
* Red Hill beat Robinson, 44-34
* Casey Westfield beat Paris, 9-6
* Marshall beat Flora, 31-18
there was a non-LIC game on Saturday involving the defending LIC Champs from Newton
* the Eagles beat Georgetown-Ridge Farm, 40-0

(NEWTON)  in High School Volleyball – the Hutsonville Invitational was held Saturday
Newton came away with the Tournament Championship with four wins, all in two sets each
* the Lady Eagles won the first match over Dugger, Indiana, 25-7, 25-13
* Newton won their second match by beating Oblong, 25-13, 25-12
* the Lady Eagles ended pool play with a victory over Lawrenceville, 25-14, 25-8
* Newton then won the championship match by beating Bement, 25-6, 25-8
the Lady Eagles were led by multiple players in each of the various categories
* Grace Hartrich had 51 assists, while Abby Frohning had 12
* Mallory Bergbower had 28 kills, followed by Kaitlyn Cohorst with 15 and Abby Frohning with 14
* Kristen Hardiek had 19 serve aces, while Kaitlyn Cohorst had 12 and Abby Frohning had 8
* Mallory Bergbower had 12 digs, followed by Kristen Hardiek with 10 and Grace Hartrich with 9
* Mariah Earnest led the team with 3 blocks - Taylor Smith and Grace Hartrich each had 2

Olney finished third in the Gold Tournament after the final two matches were played Saturday

* Tiger goalie Isaac Pampe had five saves

Olney then lost a tough 2-1 match Saturday afternoon to Centralia
* the Tiger’s lone goal was scored by Jacob McVicker, assisted by Kye Stallard

Jasper County beat Red Hill, 6-5
* Whitney Zumbahlen was the winning pitcher
* the top hitters were Payton Kinder with 3 hits and a run scored – Ava Kessler with 3 walks, 3 runs scored
Red Hill beat Oblong in the other first round game, 7-3
then in the championship game – Jasper County beat Oblong, 14-3
* the winning pitcher was Emma Kidwell
at 8-5, the Junior Lady Eagles are back at it today at home in Newton against Mattoon

the Olney teams won two of the three games on the road
* Lawrenceville won the 7th & 8th grade game over Olney, 20-8
* Olney beat Lawrenceville in the 5th & 6th grade game, 44-0
* Olney won the 3rd & 4th grade game by beating Lawrenceville, 6-0
the Olney teams are back at home this coming Saturday against the teams from Red Hill
it’s 3rd & 4th grade action at 3:30, with the older games following at around 5:00 and 7:00

there were four Little Illini Conference games last night involving eight of the nine LIC teams
* the Olney Tigers defeated the Lawrenceville Indians 21-18
* Red Hill defeated Robinson 44-34
* Casey Westfield defeated Paris 9-6
* Marshall defeated Flora 31-18
the other LIC team, the defending champs from Newton play today at 2:00 at Georgetown-Ridge Farm

the Olney Tigers after beating Effingham in their first match Thursday have two more matches today
