* Fulton O’Fallon plays Centralia in the third place game at 6:00

the Junior Lady Eagles won the 8th grade match over Casey-Westfield in two sets, 25-14 and 25-19
* top Newton players were Shaley Murray, Jacey Parr, Lucy Chapman, and Payton Kinder
the Jasper County girls won the 7th grade match in three sets
the Junior Lady Eagles are back on the court tonight at home as they’ll host Charleston in Newton

 

(OLNEY)  the IHSA Boys Swimming & Diving Sectionals are this Saturday at 16 sites around the state
there will be 30 schools represented at this Saturday’s Sectional at Champaign Centennial High School
there will be one swimmer taking part from Richland County High School in Olney
* best of luck to RCHS sophomore, Owen Powell, who’ll be competing in two individual events
* Owen will swim in the 200 yard freestyle and the 500 yard freestyle
* as a freshman last year, Powell’s Sectional appearance brought home 6th place and 3rd place results
* the Olney Tigershark is currently training at the new Workman Complex in Effingham
* Powell is a winter-time member of the Heartland Hurricanes, based in Effingham

the Tigers had their 4th quarter comeback fall short as Salem won the varsity game, 65-60
* Brent Hatten and Gage Miller led Olney with 22 and 21 points respectively
Salem won the junior varsity game, 46-38
the Tigers will finish their regular season schedule next Tuesday night when they travel to Mattoon
by the way, a “thank you” to everyone who helped out with last night’s “Coaches vs Cancer” game at RCHS

the Lady Eagles advance to the Sectional Championship game with a win last night over Marshall, 43-41
* Abby Frohning led Newton with a double/double with 16 points and 11 rebounds – Grace Hartrich had 16
Newton improves to 23-7 and moves into the Sectional Championship game on Thursday night
the Lady Eagles’ opponent will be Teutopolis as the Lady Shoes beat Tuscola in the other semi-final, 53-42
Thursday night’s Sectional Championship game is scheduled to start at 7:00 in the NCHS Gym

the 10-team tournament finished up with its final seven games over at Lawrenceville High School
* Newton beat Hutsonville in the 9th place game, 57-34
* in a consolation bracket semi-final game – Olney beat Red Hill, 38-35
* and in the other consolation bracket semi-final – Robinson beat Paris, 69-38
* then it was Paris over Red Hill in the 7th place game, 49-30
* Olney lost a close game to Robinson, 38-37 for the consolation championship in the 5th place game
* then Flora slipped by Lawrenceville in the 3rd place game, 36-33
* and in the championship game, Fairfield beat Marshall, 45-30

 

(OLNEY)  in Junior High Wrestling – the Olney Cubs were in action this past Sunday
there were 20 Olney Wrestlers that took part at the Cumberland County Junior High Open
among the total 25 teams, the Olney Cubs Wrestling Club came away in 3rd place
the Cubs had 7 total champions within their respective weight class
* Carson Bissey won two championships in two seperate divisions
* other winners were Jarrett Fuson, Landyn Jones, Finn Lathrop, Bryson Nuttall, and Mason Payne
the Olney Wrestlers also came away with seven second place and three third place finishers
the Cubs are back on the mats this coming Sunday at the Crawford County Open in Robinson

* Cameron Flanagan won three of five matches in the 182 pound class, finishing the year at 34-7

* Sesser-Valier beat Joseph Arthur in the third place game, 51-47
the Class S Junior High Boys State Tournament ended Saturday at Rend Lake College
* Woodlawn beat Signal Hill for the State Championship, 51-35
* Cairo beat Okawville in the third place game, 54-46
the Class L Junior High Boys State Tournament had its quarter-final games Saturday
* Fulton O’Fallon beat Herrin, 52-39
* Carriel O’Fallon beat Marion, 72-35
* Centralia beat Du Quoin, 50-38
* Belleville West beat Mt. Carmel, 55-39
the Class L semi-finals are tomorrow night with the finals Thursday night at Rend Lake College

 

(OLNEY)  in Junior High Volleyball Saturday – Olney played in the Albion Tournaments
the 8th grade Lady Cubs beat Mt. Carmel in three sets, but lost to Albion and Altamont in two sets each
* the top varsity players for Olney were Madelyn Rusk, Katey Zuber, and Holly Duncan
the 7th grade Lady Cubs finished in 2nd place of the junior varsity tournament
* they beat Albion in two sets and Altamont Lutheran in three sets, but lost to Creal Springs in two sets
* the top players included Lexie Musser, Katie Crites, and Kristen Greenwood
the Lady Cubs are quickly back in action this evening against Newton Jasper County

the Tigers won the varsity game over the visiting Eagles 62-53
* Olney was led by Gage Miller with 21 points, Trevor Dobbs had 18 and Luke Lambird added 10
* Newton was led by Collin Harris with 18 points.
the Tigers are back in action next Tuesday night when they’ll host Salem in Ron Herrin Gym at RCHS
the Eagles are also back in action next Tuesday night when they’ll host Casey-Westfield in the NCHS Gym
