one Regional is being host by the University of  Illinois up in Champaign

there are two more games on this Saturday
* in the first elimination round game today at 12:00, Wright State plays Ohio

two Olney Tigers advanced to yesterday's prelims out of last week's Sectional at Mattoon
one of the Tigers qualified in one of two events and will take part in the Class 2A Finals today
* Gus Lathrop was one of nine young men to qualify in the 200 meter dash
* Gus Lathrop just missed qualifying in the 100 meter dash
* Tate Nohren was not able to compete in the 110 meter high hurdles, an event he won at the Sectional
a few other area athletes also qualified for the 2A Finals later today

(OLNEY)  Olney Central College will host two softball camps in June – the OCC coaches and players will conduct a “hitting & fielding” camp on Monday, June 8th, and a “pitching & catching” camp on Tuesday, June 9th, all at the OCC softball field – on both days, players ages 6 to 12 will meet from 10:00 to 12 noon each morning, and players ages 13 to 17 will meet from 1:00 to 3:00 each afternoon – the cost is $25 for one day or $40 for both camps – pre-register online at www.olneycentralathletics.com by visiting the OCC Women’s Softball site – payment can be made the day of the camp – call Coach Nick Short for more details

 

(OLNEY)  the Richland Country Club Junior Golf Program will be held on six consecutive Tuesday mornings starting next week, June 2nd – it’s for area boys and girls who’ll be entering grades 3 thru 9 this fall and will be held Tuesday mornings thru July 7th from 8:00 to 9:30 each morning – registration begins at 7:30 next Tuesday morning at the Richland Country Club driving range – players will receive instruction on putting, chipping, rules, etiquette, and basic swing fundamentals from ERHS Golf Coach Curt Nealis and RCC Manager Dusty Baker – the cost is $50 per player and players will need to provide their own clubs – for details, call Coach Nealis at 618-839-5726, or contact the Richland Country Club in Olney

Indians beat the Mariners, 5-3  :  Angels beat the Tigers, 12-2  :  Giants beat Braves, 7-0
* it’s a full 15 game schedule for this Friday, ten of which involve Midwestern teams
the Cardinals are at home tonight for the first of three this weekend against the Dodgers
elsewhere  :  Cubs host Royals  :  Reds host Nationals  :  White Sox are in Houston
Twins host Toronto  :  Indians at Seattle  :  Pirates in San Diego  :  Giants host Braves

(OLNEY)  the IHSA Boys State Tennis Tournament began yesterday with first round action
one Olney Tiger was among the 128 singles players at the tournament
* Derek Walker lost his first match in singles to a player from Mendota in two sets
* Derek was then eliminated by a Chatham Glenwood player in consolation play in two sets
two Olney Tigers were among the 256 doubles players in the tournament
* Cameron Pearcy and Austin Urfer lost their first match to a pair from LaGrange in two sets
* Cameron and Austin were then eliminated by a pair from Mattoon in three sets
although the three Tigers lost out congratulations on making it to state and representing Olney
six other players from area schools also played yesterday in first round singles action
* those from Flora, Effingham St. Anthony, Casey-Westfield, Centralia, and Mattoon were all eliminated
eight players from area schools also played yesterday in first round doubles action
* those from Teutopolis, Effingham, and Mattoon were also all eliminated
the State Tennis Tournament continues today before ending tomorrow

the Fighting Illini are a 6th seed in the NCAA Baseball Tournament with a record of  47-7-1
the first of two games on this Friday is at 1:00 today with Notre Dame against Wright State
Illinois will play Ohio in the second game tonight at 8:00
the double elimination tournament continues with two more games tomorrow
followed by the championship game on Sunday – another title game, if needed, would be Monday

(OLNEY)  the Cardinals have announced details for the 25th Annual Christian Day at the Ballpark coming up on Sunday, July 19th, which will feature a postgame program with keynote speaker Kurt Warner, former St. Louis Rams Quarterback, Super Bowl MVP, and two-time NFL Most Valuable Player – Christian Day at the Ballpark is a day of faith, fellowship, and baseball, which begins when the Cardinals host the New York Mets at 1:15 that afternoon – as part of the day's festivities, 25,000 ticketed-fans, ages 16 and older, will receive an STL V-neck T-shirt at the gates with no special ticket required – the one-of-a-kind shirt in throwback Rams colors features Kurt Warner’s name and number on the back – following the game, all fans are encouraged to stay for the special postgame program - for tickets go to www.cardinals.com/christianday

(OLNEY)  in Girls High School Softball last night – Olney had its season end with a tough loss
the Lady Tigers played to the end but lost a tough regional game to Breese Mater Dei, 9-8
with the game tied at 2 for three innings, the host Lady Knights six runs for a 8-5 lead going into the 7th
as the Lady Tigers tied it in the top of the 7th, Mater Dei scored the winning run in the bottom half
Mater Dei outhit the Lady Tigers, 13 to 12
* KJ Royse led Olney with 3 hits and 2 RBI – Sophia Colclasure had 2 hits and 2 RBI
* Keregan Coleman had 2 hits and a run scored – Sarah Hill had 2 hits and a RBI
the Lady Tigers end the season with an overall record of  18 wins and 12 losses – congrats on a great year Mater Dei moves on to play Centralia in the Class 3A Regional championship game Saturday in Breese

the Fighting Illini will host one of the sixteen Regionals this weekend up in Champaign
Illinois received a sixth seed overall in the NCAA Baseball Tournament with their 47-7-1 yearly record
the Big Ten Baseball Champs will host Notre Dame, Wright State, and Ohio
it’s a double elimination tournament with two games each on Friday & Saturday, and one game Sunday
* Notre Dame plays Wright State at 1:00 this Friday
* Illinois plays Ohio at 8:00 Friday night
* the first elimination game will be Saturday at 1:00
* the semi-final game is Saturday night at 8:00
* the championship game will be at 1:00 on Sunday
* the winner moves on to one of eight Super Regionals with that winner going to the College World Series

(OLNEY)  the Cardinals have announced details for the 25th Annual Christian Day at the Ballpark coming up on Sunday, July 19th, which will feature a postgame program with keynote speaker Kurt Warner, former St. Louis Rams Quarterback, Super Bowl MVP, and two-time NFL Most Valuable Player – Christian Day at the Ballpark is a day of faith, fellowship, and baseball, which begins when the Cardinals host the New York Mets at 1:15 that afternoon – as part of the day's festivities, 25,000 ticketed-fans, ages 16 and older, will receive an STL V-neck T-shirt at the gates with no special ticket required – the one-of-a-kind shirt in throwback Rams colors features Kurt Warner’s name and number on the back – following the game, all fans are encouraged to stay for the special postgame program - for tickets go to www.cardinals.com/christianday

 

(OLNEY)  Olney Central College will host a baseball skills camp this summer for youth ages 6 to 12 – the camp will be offered from 9:00 to 12 noon on the mornings of June 9th, 10th, and 11th, at OCC’s Dennis Conley Field – the cost is at $60 per player – to pre-register, contact Coach Dennis Conley at 618-395-7777

 

(OLNEY)  the Richland Country Club Junior Golf Program will be held on six consecutive Tuesday mornings starting next week, June 2nd – it’s for area boys and girls who'll be entering grades 3 thru 9 this fall and will be held Tuesday mornings thru July 7th from 8:00 to 9:30 each morning – registration begins at 7:30 next Tuesday morning at the Richland Country Club driving range – players will receive instruction on putting, chipping, rules, etiquette, and basic swing fundamentals from ERHS Golf Coach Curt Nealis and RCC Manager Dusty Baker – the cost is $50 per player and players will need to provide their own clubs – for details, call Coach Nealis at 618-839-5726, or contact the Richland Country Club in Olney

the Class 3A Regional game had Olney falling to Centralia, 8-6 as the Tigers were outhit, 12 to 6
the Tigers finish the year with an overall record of  16 wins and 12 losses
Centralia moves on to the Effingham Regional to face top-seeded Charleston tomorrow at 4:00
the second semi-final has Effingham against Salem at 6:00 – all at Paul Smith Field in Effingham

the camps will run each day, tomorrow thru Friday, with a $35 per girl fee

* Session Two for girls entering grades 1-5 from 12:00 to 2:00 each afternoon at the Elementary School
