*  the Blue Knights lost to Kaskaskia yesterday, 9-4

(NOBLE)  in high school sports yesterday – the Noble / Clay City teams played at Flora  :
*  baseball  :  Flora beat the Wildcats, 9-6
*  softball  :  Flora beat the Lady Wildcats, 14-1 in five innings

(FLORA)  it’s back to the oval track tonight at the Clay County Speedway, just north of Flora – in fact, it’s Modified Mania as the best area modified drivers will be competing for $1,200 to win – junior race fans will also try for their own trophy with the Little Foot Race – joining the UMP Modifieds will be Pure Stocks, Sprints, B-Mods, Street Stocks, and Mini-Stocks – plus, it’s back to normal hours with the gates opening at 5:00 and racing at 7:30 – admission is $10 for adults, $5 for those age 16 and under, and free for children 5 and under – for more, logon at www.claycountyspeedway.net – that’s the Clay County Speedway

*  now at 26&11, the Blue Knights play a single GRAC game this afternoon at 3:00 at Kaskaskia College

(OLNEY)  in girls high school soccer yesterday – Olney split a pair of matches on the road  :
*  the Lady Tigers lost the varsity match to Mattoon, 2-0 as the Olney varsity drops to 1&5 on the year
*  the Lady Tigers won the junior varsity match over Mattoon, 1-0 improving to 3&2 on the year
    *  the junior varsity goal was scored by Kierston Dunlap, assisted by Kylar Craig
*  the varsity Lady Tigers are at the Harrisburg Tournament with three matches on tap tomorrow


 
(OLNEY)  in boys high school tennis last Saturday – Olney did well at the Flora Doubles Tournament  :
*  Teutopolis won the four team event by winning a tiebreaker over Olney – both teams had 9&3 records
    *  in fact, the scores were so close that the Wooden Shoes won by going to the third tiebreaker
*  Marion finished in third place at 5&7, while the host Wolves finished fourth with a record of 1&11
*  the Tigers had two winning pairs in the competition 
    *  Nick Kuhl & Levi Weiler were the #1 doubles champs with wins over Flora, Marion, and Teutopolis
    *  Derek Walker & Andrew Garrett were the #2 champs with wins over Flora, Marion, and Teutopolis
    *  Cameron Pearcy & Austin Urfer were second in the #3 matches, winning two and losing one
    *  Stirling Hostetter & Andrew Steber were third in the #4 matches, winning one and losing two
*  the Tennis Tigers are back in conference action next Tuesday at Robinson


 
(OLNEY)  in boys 8th grade junior high track on Tuesday – the Olney Cubs won a four team meet  :
*  Olney beat second place Red Hill, 78 to 36 – Marshall finished third at 30 and Palestine was fourth at 23
*  the Cubs won five of the fourteen events with six second place finishes
    *  Luke Lambird won the long jump
    *  Reid Edwards won the 400 meter run
    *  Eduardo Mayorga, Trey Puckett, Jacob Greifzu, & Dalton Mitchell won the 400 meter relay
    *  Luke Lambird, Reid Edwards, Jacob Henry, & Gavin Lathrop won the 800 meter relay

*  the Blue Knights took two from Mid-Continent College, 17-4 and 18-1
*  the winning pitchers were Evan Mohr, 2&1, and Alex Holder, now 2&0
*  top OCC hitters in game one were Troy Paris, Kollin Dowdy, & Alex Martin, each with three hits
*  in game two, Logan Marshall had four hits, while Jake Hirniak & Jarret Young each had three hits
*  now at 24&11 on the year, the Blue Knights played Lindenwood College yesterday

*  the Lady Knights swept two from Southeastern Illinois, 12-2 in five innings, and 9-4

*  the Tigers beat the visiting Wildcats, 6-0 as host Olney outhit NCC, 8 to none
*  sophomore Tyler Zuber pitched the no-hitter, missing a perfect game by giving up one walk
*  top Olney hitter was Justin Bailey with two singles, a double, a run scored, and two RBI
*  Dallas Peck had a two RBI single while Evan Eagleson had an RBI double and a run scored
*  now at 9&2 on the year, the Tigers are in LIC action today hosting Cumberland at Millspaugh Field

*  Brie Bennett of Oblong won the first game, improving her yearly record to 10&5
*  Shana Marti of Toledo won the second game, improving her yearly record to 4&3
*  OCC’s top hitter on the day was Hailey Flexter of Altamont with seven hits and five RBI
*  Kelsey Bowman had three hits and four RBI – Lindsey Fleming had two hits and one RBI
*  now at 19&17, the Lady Knights are back in GRAC action today hosting Southeastern Illinois at 2:00

(OLNEY)  the Olney Central College Foundation will host its 12th annual “Golf Outing” on Friday, May 3rd, at the Richland Country Club in Olney – lunch will be served at 11:30 with tee-off at 1:00 – the event includes 18 holes of golf in a scramble format with an entry fee of $60 per person or $240 for a team of four – the deadline to sign-up is April 26th – call Kathy Slichenmyer at OCC, toll-free at 1-800-622-4322

 

(NEWTON)  the 7th Annual Jasper County Chamber of Commerce Bass Tournament is Saturday, April 27th, on Newton Lake – with a guaranteed $500 Big Bass, there will be an 80% payout – entry fees are $60 per team and cash paid on the morning of the tournament – a raffle for a rod & reel will be held before take off at 6:00 that morning – all teams must be checked in & paid by 5:30 – for details, call Chris at 553-4319
