(OLNEY)  an Olney Tiger Freshman Football Fundraiser is set for Saturday, July 12th, from 10:00 to 2:00, in the Olney Centre, just east of the Wal-Mart Supercenter, between the Dollar Tree and the Hallmark Store – they’ll be serving pork burgers, chips, soda, and homemade baked goodies – come out and support them

 

(OLNEY)  A League of Our Own Ladies Softball League will host a fundraising “car wash” on Saturday, June 28th, from 10:00 to 1:00, at the Olney Eagles, at 215 North Fair Street – a “bake sale” will also be held, plus baked goods can be donated to the cause – for details or to help out, call Ed at 618-838-5056

 

(BRIDGEPORT)  a 7-on-7 Flag Football Tournament is set for Saturday, June 28th, at the Red Hill High School in Bridgeport, running from 8:00 in the morning throughout the day – it’s for 8 to 12 member teams for those ages 15 and older at a cost of $120 per team – concessions will be available, plus a silent auction with all proceeds going to the Red Hill Foundation – for more information, contact Nick Straka in Sumner

 

(OLNEY)  the Olney Central College Blue Knights will host two baseball camps for area youth ages 6 to 12 – the first camp is next Monday thru Wednesday, June 23rd thru 25th, from 9:00 to 12 noon each morning, at OCC’s Dennis Conley Field – the second camp will be the following Monday and Tuesday mornings, June 30th and July 1st – each camp is an all-skills camp and those taking part need to bring their glove, a bat, and cleats, plus catchers need to bring their own gear – the cost is $50 for a single camp or $75 for both camps – to pre-register, call Coach Dennis Conley at OCC at 618-395-7777, extension 2131

 

(NEWTON)  the annual Nick's Race fundraiser is tomorrow morning at the Sam Parr State Park northeast of Newton – with an entry fee of $25 per person, entries are accepted on race day with onsite registration at 7:15 that morning – plus, online entries are available at www.raceit.com/Register/?event=26321 – the 2.85 mile run begins at 8:30 and the 2 mile walk will start at 8:40 – also a NCHS Drum Line performance, an awards ceremony with transplant donor and recipient stories, the raffle drawing, and closing comments – all are invited to take part or simply observe – fundraising raffle tickets can be bought now thru Friday at Tarr Chiropractic Clinic in Newton – proceeds from the event will support the Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Organization, the NCHS Drum Line, and the Cross Country teams at Newton Community High School

 

(FLORA)  it’s back to oval, dirt-track racing tomorrow night at the Clay County Speedway, north of Flora, along U.S. Route 45 – sprint cars, UMP modifieds, pure stocks, UMP B-mods, and the exciting hornets – plus a big car demolition derby on the infield at intermission – plenty of concessions and parking – gates open at 5:00 and racing at 7:30 – all ages are welcomed at the Clay County Speedway Saturday night

 

(OLNEY)  the 9th Annual Richland County Republican Central Committee “Golf Outing” is today at the Richland Country Club in Olney – the registration starts at 11:00, with lunch at 11:30, and the shotgun start at 1:00 – the four person scramble will be followed by a steak dinner with prizes and awards – dinner-only tickets are available

    *  the Indians were rained out in Cleveland
*  the Cardinals stay in St. Louis to host a four game series against Philadelphia starting tonight
    *  day games today have the Reds, Royals, and Brewers on the road and the Indians at home
    *  games under the lights tonight have the White Sox on the road and Twins at home  :  Cubs are idle

 

(OLNEY)  in summer swim team competition – the Olney swimmers continue to win
*  while no score was provided, the Olney Tigersharks beat Wabash Valley in a dual meet at Mt. Carmel
*  since the Olney swimmers outnumbered the host swimmers nearly 3 to 1, no placements were available
*  the Tigersharks now will prepare for the annual Olney Invitational Swim Meet coming up this Saturday
*  the Musgrove Aquatic Center will host over 350 swimmers from 13 other swim teams
*  the event will run from 9:00 in the morning until 4:00 in the afternoon at the Olney swimming facility
*  by the way, the Tigersharks will have their “kickin-for-kash” fundraiser next Friday, June 27th

*  the Tigersharks won the McLeansboro Invitational this past Saturday with several other teams taking part
*  there were three individual high point winners for Olney
    *  Tim Sturm tied for the high point position in the Boys 18 Year Old & Under division
    *  Owen Powell was high point swimmer in the Boys 14 Year Old & Under division
    *  Avery Gardner was high point swimmer in the Boys 6 Year Old & Under division
*  several other Olney Tigersharks also did well Saturday at the Sea Otter Invitational
