(OLNEY)  in Boys High School Basketball last night – Olney swept two games on the road up north
Olney won the varsity battle between Tigers at Paris, 55-48
* senior Gage Miller had a career high 31 points to lead Olney – Brent Hatten added 12 points as well
Olney also came from behind to win the junior varsity game, 38-37
the Tigers are back quickly back in action tonight as they’ll host Mt. Carmel in Ron Herrin Gym at RCHS
this evening’s junior varsity game will start at 5:00 with the varsity matchup at around 6:30

the Eagles lost the varsity game at Robinson, 52-47
* Joe Stone led Newton with 11 points, while Nick Cohorst had 10 points and 9 rebounds
Newton won the junior varsity game, 70-53
the Eagles are now off until the Dieterich Holiday Tournament December 27th thru 29th

there are several GRAC/Region teams in action but only one GRAC doubleheader is scheduled
* that’s the John A. Logan teams at Olney Central College this afternoon
* the OCC Lady Knights are scheduled for a 1:00 start, followed by the Blue Knights at around 3:00

(NEWTON/OLNEY)  the Teutopolis Junior High School Basketball & Cheer teams will have a “Shoot n’ Shout For a Cure” chili supper this evening at the Teutopolis Junior High School will all proceeds to go to the local “Fear Nothing” group, which provides gas/food cards to area families affected by cancer – serving will run from 4:00 until 8:00 with carry-outs available with $5 tickets per person on sale at the door – plus a basket raffle & more  :  earlier in the day it will be a “Shoot n’ Shout For A Cure” basketball game at Teutopolis High School as the Junior Wooden Shoes will play Effingham St. Anthony at 10:00 in the morning – it will feature halftime performances by Jansen’s Dance and the cheerleaders from both teams – there will be 50/50 tickets, plus a Basket raffle & more  :  both events are to support 12 year old Elizabeth Weidner, a member of the Teutopolis Junior High Cheer Team, who was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma Cancer nearly a year ago and is a patient at St. Louis Children’s Hospital – Elizabeth’s brother, Ethan is a member of the Junior Wooden Shoes basketball team – her parents are Matthew and Jennifer Weidner

the Cubs are back in action next Tuesday when they will host North Clay in Olney

with no games tonight, there are two tomorrow night and the tournament’s final four games on Saturday

the Junior Eagles lost the 8th grade game at Lawrenceville, 41-23
Jasper County also lost the 7th grade game to Lawrenceville, 47-42

the list includes 84 individuals and 4 teams from throughout the state from the various categories
* there are 5 career coaches, 19 coaches, 29 players, 8 officials, 5 media, and 17 friends of basketball
of the list, there are 11 from our downstate region, which includes 7 in the coaches category

the Board voted to implement a pitching regulation policy in the sport of baseball with some key points
* the pitch limitations are effective immediately for all IHSA member schools in the 2017 spring season
* the limitations are close to those by IHSA’s Baseball Advisory & Sports Medicine Advisory Committees
* while the original recommendation for maximum pitches in a game was set at 115
* the most significant change from the original recommendation dropped that number to 105 pitches
* the process for schools to submit their pitching counts via the IHSA website is under development
* once finalized, the process will be presented to coaches & school personnel before the 2017 spring season
* a violation of the policy could result in forfeiture with all to be reviewed on a case-by-case basis

(NEWTON)  in Girls High School Basketball last night – Newton swept two game at home
the Lady Eagles won the varsity game over Red Hill, 60-24
* Grace Hartrich led Newton with 17 points and 10 rebounds – Ariel Richards scored 10 points
Newton also won the junior varsity game, 36-23
the Lady Eagles improve to 8-3 on the year, still undefeated in the LIC at 3-0
Newton is back in action this Thursday night at Effingham St. Anthony

the Lady Tigers lost the varsity game to Marshall, 45-73
* Cameron Hough led Olney with 13 points – Lauren Eagleson had 12 points and 10 rebounds
Marshall also won the junior varsity game, 48-37
Olney falls back to 5-4 on the year, now at 2-2 in the Little Illini Conference
the Lady Tigers are back in action Thursday night with a non-LIC game down at Fairfield

                                     LOCAL AND AREA SPORTS REMINDERS

 

(NEWTON/OLNEY)  the Teutopolis Junior High School Basketball & Cheer teams will have a “Shoot n’ Shout For a Cure” chili supper this Saturday evening at the Teutopolis Junior High School will all proceeds to go to the local “Fear Nothing” group, which provides gas/food cards to area families affected by cancer – serving will run from 4:00 until 8:00 with carry-outs available with $5 tickets per person on sale at the door – plus a basket raffle & more  :  earlier in the day it will be a “Shoot n’ Shout For A Cure” basketball game at Teutopolis High School as the Junior Wooden Shoes will play Effingham St. Anthony at 10:00 in the morning – it will feature halftime performances by Jansen’s Dance and the cheerleaders from both teams – there will be 50/50 tickets, plus a Basket raffle & more  :  both events are to support 12 year old Elizabeth Weidner, a member of the Teutopolis Junior High Cheer Team, who was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma Cancer nearly a year ago and is a patient at St. Louis Children’s Hospital – Elizabeth’s brother, Ethan is a member of the Junior Wooden Shoes basketball team – her parents are Matthew and Jennifer Weidner
