it was the third and deciding game in the “best-of-three” championship series
* Virginia beat the defending champions from Vanderbilt, 4-2
* the Cavaliers won two games in a row to claim the title after losing game one Monday night

 

(OLNEY)  in Junior Legion Baseball last night – Olney won two games on the road
Olney beat Dieterich in game one, 7-3
* winning pitcher was Jonah Buscher
* top Olney hitters were Gage Miller, Trey Puckett, and Luke Lambird
Olney won the second game over Dieterich, 17-3 in five innings
* winning pitcher was Dalton Lancaster
* Olney’s top hitters were Trey Puckett, Lucas Harmon, and Gage Miller
the Olney squad is now 6&3 on the year, now 5&1 against league teams
Olney’s back in action with a doubleheader tomorrow at Effingham

* winning pitcher was Tim Weber with a no hitter
* top Newton hitters were Brock Mammoser, Mitch Bierman, and Luke Geier
Newton now 12-3 on the year, back in action on Monday hosting Effingham at 6:00

(OLNEY)  the Cardinals will host the 25th Annual Christian Day at Busch Stadium in St. Louis on Sunday, July 19th – Christian Day at the Ballpark is a day of faith, fellowship, and baseball, which begins when the Cardinals host the New York Mets at 1:15 that afternoon – following the game, all fans are encouraged to stay for the special postgame program, which will feature keynote speaker Kurt Warner, former St. Louis Rams Quarterback, plus several Cardinal players and Manager Mike Matheny – the first 25,000 fans with a paid admittance will get a Kurt Warner jersey – for tickets details go to www.cardinals.com/christianday

 

(NEWTON)  the Ambraw River Eagles #4475 will host a pork burger / bake sale this Saturday with all money raised to support the NCHS Girls Track Team to purchase new uniforms and warm ups – while the track team will provide the baked goodies, along with several items donated by Twyla Harvey and The Freeze – that’s this Saturday morning, right next to The Dollar General Store, with the bake sale starting at 8:30 and the pork burger sale at 10:30 – the NCHS Girls Track Team says “thank you” in advance

Newton beat Olney, 12-0 in five innings as the Post 20 team outhit host Olney, 7 to 4
* Newton’s winning pitcher was Brock Mammoser with the shutout – Pierce Jones took the loss for Olney
* Newton’s top hitters were Mitch Bierman, John Grunloh, Nate Meinhart, and Luke Geier
* Olney’s top hitters were Gage Miller, Mason Kocher, and Jonah Buscher
Newton is back in action tonight as they host South Central with game time at 6:00
Olney is back in action tonight with a doubleheader at Dieterich – first game at 6:00

* top Newton hitters were Tim Weber & Mitch Bierman with two hits each and a combined 5 RBI
Newton won the second game over Breese, 5-3 outhitting the host team 9 to 1
* winning pitcher was Luke Geier with the one-hitter – Nate Meinhart closed it out for a save
* top hitters were Luke Geier, Mitch Bierman, Wade Frohning, and Brock Mammoser

* there’s a limited seven game schedule on this Monday, five of which will involve five Midwestern teams

South Central won the first game over Newton, 7-5 as the hits were even at 8 for each team

Newton won the second game, beating South Central, 23-2 outhitting the opponents, 23 to 4
* winning pitcher was Brock Mammoser
* top Newton hitters were Brock Mammoser, Tim Weber, Noah Wagy, John Grunloh, & Mitch Bierman
Newton Post 20 is now 8&3, now 2&1 against League teams
the Newton squad is scheduled to play a doubleheader tonight over at Breese – first game at 6:00
the Olney Junior Legion team was idle over the weekend – they’ll host Newton tomorrow night

 

(OLNEY)  the Olney Tigersharks hosted their Invitational Swim Meet at the Musgrove Aquatic Center
the host Tigersharks finished in first place, beating out Effingham, 936 to 694 on Saturday
* Charleston was third, followed by Fairfield, Carmi, Marshall, and Mt. Vernon, Indiana
* the other teams included Greene County, Indiana, Mt. Carmel, Harrisburg, Vincennes, and McLeansboro
there were eleven Olney Tigersharks with wins among the 128 events in the five different categories
* Owen Powell won four events in the Boys 14&U Division
* Ailyn Zurliene won four events in the Girls 8&U Division
* Reid Brown won four events in the Boys 6&U Division
* Tanner Piercefield won three events in the Girls 18&U Division
* Dalton Mitchell won two events in the Boys 16&U Division
* Landyn Piercefield won two events in the Boys 10&U Division
* Ari Leslie won two events in the Girls 7&U Division
* Tim Sturm won one event in the Boys 18&U Division
* Carolyn Powell won one event in the Girls 12&U Division
* Jadyn Holubek won one event in the Girls 11&U Division
* Stella Zurliene won one event in the Girls 6&U Division
the Tigersharks had 30 second place finishes and 31 third place finishes in the Meet

(NEWTON)  women interested in playing volleyball for Lincoln Trail College near Robinson will have a chance to tryout for the Lady Statesmen team this afternoon, from 1:00 to 3:00, at the LTC Sports Center, east & north of Robinson – the tryouts are open to any incoming freshmen or sophomore students at Lincoln Trail College or for those who would like to attend LTC – Coach Kristen Selph says at least one player that attends the tryouts will make the roster for this fall’s LTC Volleyball team – all are invited

 

(OLNEY)  the Olney TigerSharks Swim Team will host its Olney Invitational Swim Meet, scheduled for this morning, with a start time at 9:00, at the Musgrove Aquatic Center – there are 12 teams scheduled to take part from around Southern Illinois and Southwestern Indiana – the public is welcome to attend
