both the St. Louis Blues and the Chicago Blackhawks were idle Thursday night
* among the winners were the Jets, the Wild, and the Oilers
* among those that lost last night were the Flames, the Avalanche, and the Stars
the Blues are back on the ice tonight as they’ll host the Canucks in St. Louis
the Blackhawks return to action tomorrow night in Calgary against the Flames

 

(OLNEY)  in Major League Baseball Spring Training yesterday, involving Midwestern teams
* the Cardinals lost to one of the hottest spring training teams, the Washington Nationals, 8-2
* yesterday’s winners included the Cubs, Twins, Brewers, Rangers, and Astros
* those who lost on Thursday included the White Sox, Royals, Reds, Tigers, and Pirates
the Cardinals are back in action this afternoon as they’ll play the New York Mets

 

(OLNEY)  in Girls High School Soccer yesterday – Olney opened its season with a tough loss
the Lady Tigers lost a one goal match at Mattoon, 3-2
* Olney’s goals were scored by Sarah Guinn and Jessica Clark, both assisted by Kylar Craig
* Olney’s defensive effort was led by Hali Hahn and Stephanie Shan
the Lady Tigers are quickly back in action tomorrow at the Kaskaskia Shootout

the Blue Knights currently have a 22-4 overall record, having won 9 of their last 11 games

the Cardinals are back in action today as they’ll play the Washington Nationals

 

(OLNEY)  in Junior College Baseball yesterday – Olney Central College won on the road
the Blue Knights won a single nine inning game at Shawnee Community College, 6-0
* OCC’s Renton Poole improves to 3-0 with the complete game one hitter with 11 strike outs
* at the plate, Nolan Fertig had 3 hits, while Trey Fulton had 2 hits and 4 RBI
now at 22-4 on the year, the Blue Knights host Shawnee with two games tomorrow afternoon

the Lady Knights lost to Parkland, 8-1 but came back to win the second game, 5-1

the Lady Tigers beat Cumberland, 2-0 although Olney was outhit by the host Lady Pirates, 6 to 4

* Paige Ginder led Olney at the plate with 2 hits and 1 RBI – Michels also had a RBI hit for Olney

* the Cardinals did not play on Tuesday, but will now play each day until the regular season starts April 3rd

* those who lost on Tuesday include the Reds, Braves, Brewers, and Rangers
the Cardinals are back in action today as they’ll play the Marlins for the fifth time this spring

the Tigers beat Lawrenceville, 6-3 as Olney outhit the visiting Indians, 11 to 8
* Pierce Jones got the win facing all but one batter, giving up seven hits but striking out thirteen
* Luke Lambird led Olney with a double and two singles, plus two runs scored
* Connor Adams had two singles, a sacrifice fly, and two RBI – Gage Miller had two hits as well
the 2-0 Tigers are back in action Friday afternoon at Flora in a non-conference game against the Wolves

 

(OLNEY)  in High School Softball yesterday – Olney won its home and season opener at RCHS
the Lady Tigers beat St. Anthony, 10-5 as Olney outhit the visiting Lady Bulldogs, 9 to 7
* Sophia Colclasure got the win, allowing only three earned runs and striking out six
* Colclasure also led Olney at the plate with two hits and two RBI
* Megan Garner had two hits and one RBI – Maci Baker had a two RBI hit as well
the 1-0 Lady Tigers are quickly back in action today traveling north to play Cumberland

the Lady Eagles fell to visiting Mattoon, 11-1 as the Lady Green Wave outhit Newton, 8 to 5

* Class 2A  :  Paris Crestwood lost to Lewistown Central in the state championship match
the Junior Eagles from Paris finish the year with a record at 22-2

 

(OLNEY)  in Junior High Volleyball – Olney Richland County had its season end last night
the Lady Cubs lost their regional semi-final match to Mt. Carmel in two close sets, 22-25, 30-28
* a tip of the hat to the Lady Cubs and their coaches for a successful season this year on the court
the other Class L regional semi-final match had Salem beat Flora in two sets
then in the championship match, Salem beat Mt. Carmel in three close sets
Salem moves on the Class L State Tournament to be held April 2nd in Pinckneyville

the Cardinals are idle today before they play the Marlins again tomorrow

the Lady Knights took two from Frontier Community College, winning 4-0 and 14-9
* OCC’s top pitcher on the day was Mindy Garrelts, pitching a complete game shutout
* OCC’s top hitter on the day was K. J. Royse with four hits and three RBI in game two
the 18-8 Lady Knights are back in GRAC action today in Robinson against Lincoln Trail

* the Blue Knights beat Southeastern Illinois, 10-4 as OCC outhit the Falcons, 13 to 8
* OCC’s Lucas Lantrip got the win, his second of the year – Ryan Moore picked up a save, his first
* OCC’s top hitter was Jayden Beshears with 3 hits and 2 RBI
* OCC’s Will Ray had 2 hits, 2 RBI, and 2 runs scored – Bram Wood had a 2 RBI hit as well
* the Blue Knights won the second game over Southeastern Illinois, 4-1
OCC is now 19-3 on the year, 4-0 in the GRAC, scheduled to play two at McKendree University today

the Tigers beat St. Anthony, 5-0 as Olney outhit the host Bulldogs in Effingham, 7 to 1
* Connor Adams threw a complete game, allowing only hit and striking out ten
* Adams helped himself with an RBI double – Ethan Eagleson had an RBI double and single
* Tanner Hout had an RBI double and Hunter Wyatt had an RBI single as well
the 1-0 Tigers are back in play today when they'll host Lawrenceville at Bill Millspaugh Field

the Eagles lost to Effingham, 9-3 as the visiting Hearts outhit host Newton, 17 to 6
* Luke Geier led Newton with a two RBI double while Brock Mammoser doubled and scored a run
* Newton’s Mitch Bierman and Tim Weber each singled and scored as well
* Mitch Jansen took the loss on the mound for Newton

* Newton’s winning pitcher was Maddie Stanley, allowing only two runs and striking out three
* Newton’s Mariah Earnest had 4 hits and 2 RBI – Abby Frohning had 4 hits and 3 RBI
* Newton’s Montana Ochs had 2 hits and 4 RBI – Ariel Richards had 2 hits and 2 RBI

there’s only one downstate team is in action tonight
* Class 2A  :  Paris Crestwood (22-1) plays Lewistown Central (27-0) in the state title match
the other downstate teams were eliminated in action Saturday
* Class 1A  :  Grayville lost its first round match, finishing the year with a record at 23-1
* Class 3A  :  Paris Mayo lost its first round match, ending the year with a record at 21-5
* Class 4A  :  Mt. Zion lost its first round match, finishing the year with a record at 23-2
