Cardinals lost to Washington, 2-1 in 10 innings  :  Cubs beat Pirates, 9-8  :  Reds beat Brewers, 16-10
Indians beat White Sox, 6-2  :  Royals beat Twins, 6-5  :  Mets beat Braves, 7-1  :  Yankees beat Tigers, 5-2
* it’s back to a full schedule again today and tonight with fifteen games
Cardinals play game two of three tonight in Washington  :  all the other teams are the same sites as Tuesday

 

(OLNEY)  in Boys High School Tennis yesterday – Olney won a conference match on the road
the Tennis Tigers beat Robinson, 8-1
Olney won all six of the singles matches, and all were won in two sets each
* Derek Walker in match #1
* Sterling Hostetter in match #2
* Austin Urfer in match #3
* Connor Walker in match #4
* Cameron Pearcy in match #5
* and Brock VanBlaricum in match #6
Olney won two of the three doubles matches

(NEWTON)  in Boys High School Tennis yesterday – Newton lost a tough one-point match on the road
the Tennis Eagles fell to Paris, 5 to 4
Newton won four of the six singles matches
* Chris Pitcher in the #1 match in two sets
* Chase Goss in the #2 match in two sets
* Zach Huschle in the #3 match in three sets
* and Holden Kerner in the #4 match in two sets
the other varsity Newton players included Kyle Vahling and Ethan Carter
the Tennis Eagles are back in action Saturday at the Flora Tournament

 

(NEWTON)  in Girls High School Track from last Friday – the Sam Bennett Invitational was in Robinson
the Newton Lady Eagles won the sixteen team event beating 2nd place Teutopolis, 138 to 81
Neoga was 3rd (55), Marshall was 4th (45), Olney a close 5th (44), and Shelbyville was 6th (43)
then Robinson (38), Red Hill (28), Palestine (28), Altamont (23), Cumberland (9), and Benton (9)
followed by Lawrenceville (8), Paris (5), St. Elmo (4), and Cowden-Herrick (0)
the Newton Lady Eagles won eight of the eighteen events – also had seven other top five finishes
* McKendra Barthelme, Alli Kline, Brooke Koebele, and Alex Haarman won the 400 meter relay
         (set a new Bennett Invitational Meet Record for the 400 meter relay)
* Alli Kline, Brooke Koebele, Alex Haarman, and Taylor Johnson won the 800 meter relay
         (set a new Bennett Invitational Meet Record for the 800 meter relay)
* Emma Weber, Lexie Davidson, Taylor Johnson, and Hannah Litzelman won the 1600 meter relay

* McKendra Barthelme won the 100 meter hurdles, won the long jump, and was 2nd in the 200 meter dash

* Newton’s winning pitcher was Katelyn Hardiek, allowing only one hit and striking out five
* top hitter was Kaitlyn Hardiek with 2 singles, 2 doubles, 4 RBI, and one run scored
now at 8&5 on the year, the Lady Eagles will host Lawrenceville tomorrow in LIC action

the Lady Tigers beat Salem, 12-1 as visiting Olney outhit the host Lady Wildcats, 15 to 3
* Sophia Colclasure was the winning pitcher, allowing no earned runs in 6 innings with 2 strikeouts
* Shelby Dowty led Olney in hitting with 4 singles and 3 RBI – Bayli Spillman had a 2 RBI double
* Paige Ginder had 2 hits, 2 RBI, and 2 runs scored
now at 11&7 on the year, the Lady Tigers return to LIC action tomorrow when they host Robinson

now at 6&6, the Tigers have a rescheduled game at home today against Cumberland

the Eagles beat Red Hill, 13-0 in five innings as Newton outhit the host Salukis, 14 to 1
* Newton’s winning pitcher was Blake Probst, throwing the one-hit shutout while striking out two
* Nick Reis and Mitch Jansen each had 3 hits – Reis had a home run and 2 RBI

in a game moved to Olney from Albion, the Tigers & Lions 3-3 tie game was suspended after 9 innings
* Tyler Zuber pitched all nine innings for Olney with a low pitch count
* Olney’s top hitters were Reid Kocher and Troy Houchin, both with two hits each
the game will be rescheduled to resume in the top of the 10th inning with Olney coming to bat
while Edwards County came into the game undefeated at 3&0, the Tigers came in at 2&1

Cubs split with the Padres  :  White Sox split with Detroit  :  Cleveland split with Minnesota
Royals split with Oakland  :  Pittsburgh took two from Milwaukee  :  Braves split at Toronto
*  there are only nine games on the schedule for this Monday
the Cardinals and Braves are idle  :  elsewhere – the Cubs are in Pittsburgh

the Lady Knights dropped two games last Friday to Wabash Valley, 15-0 and 5-2
but the Lady Knights took two Saturday from Southwestern Illinois, 15-4 and 8-0
the Lady Knights had their GRAC doubleheader rained out yesterday at Lincoln Trail
at 29&17 overall, now 12&16 in the GRAC, the Lady Knights will host St. Louis Community College today

Cardinals beat Brewers, 4-0  :  Twins beat Royals, 8-5
the Cubs, Reds, White Sox, Indians, Tigers, Pirates, and Braves were all idle
* there are fifteen games on tonight’s schedule, seven of which involve Midwestern teams
Cardinals host the Reds  :  Cubs host Padres  :  White Sox at Detroit  :  Twins host Indians
Pirates host the Brewers  :  Royals host the Oakland A's  :  Braves are at Toronto

 

(OLNEY)  in Junior College Softball yesterday – Olney Central College split a GRAC twin bill
the Lady Knights split two down at John A. Logan near Carterville
* Olney Central lost game one in eight innings, 3-2
* the Lady Knights came back to win game two, 4-0
now at 27&15, 10&14 in the GRAC, the Lady Knights will host Wabash Valley for two today in Olney

 

(OLNEY)  in Girls High School Soccer yesterday – Olney wins again on the road
the Lady Tigers beat Mattoon, 3-2 as Olney beat the host Lady Green Wave
* Courtney Kman scored two Olney goals – Sarah Guinn had the other, plus Maci Dunn with an assist
* it was another great defensive match for Olney’s Kylar Craig
the Soccer Lady Tigers are back in action today and tomorrow in the Harrisburg Tournament

 

(NEWTON)  in High School Baseball yesterday – Newton won its home conference game
the Eagles beat Marshall at the Jasper County Boys & Girls Park, 12-2 in five innings
* Nate Meinhart had 3 doubles with 2 RBI while Luke Geier had a 3 RBI hit
* Mike Carr and Mitch Jansen each had 2 hits and an RBI
* Mitch Jansen was the winning pitcher allowing only 1 earned run and striking out 3
now at 6&4 on the year, the Eagles remain undefeated in the Little Illini Conference at 3&0
Newton is back in LIC action today with a rescheduled matchup in Flora this afternoon

the Tigers lost to visiting Paris, 7-4 although Olney outhit the visiting Tigers, 13 to 12
* Olney's Connor Adams had 3 hits and 1 RBI – Tyler Zuber had 2 hits and 1 RBI
Olney falls to 5&5 overall, now 2&1 in the LIC – Tigers play this afternoon at Clay City

 

(OLNEY)  in High School Softball yesterday – Olney lost a conference game at home
the Lady Tigers lost to visiting Paris, 5-2 as the visiting Lady Tigers outhit Olney, 9 to 3
* K.J. Royse had two of Olney three hits while Sarah Hill had Olney’s only RBI
now 7&7 overall, the Lady Tigers are 2&1 in the LIC – they’re back in action today at Clay City

 

(NEWTON)  in High School Softball yesterday – Newton lost a conference game at home
the Lady Eagles lost to visiting Marshall, 6-5 although Newton outhit the visiting Lady Lions, 8 to 5
* Newton’s Emily Kerner had 3 hits on the day and Ariel Richards had 3 runs batted in
the Lady Eagles are back in action today with a rescheduled LIC game at Flora
