*  the Cardinals let one slip away, falling to Milwaukee in 12 innings, 3-2
    *  elsewhere  :  the Cubs beat the Reds, 7-0  :  the White Sox beat the Royals, 7-5
    *  the Twins beat the Tigers, 4-3  :  the Indians beat the Astros, 4-2
*  the Cardinals will try to even the series tonight against the Brewers in St. Louis
    *  all the other Midwestern teams play under the lights tonight with the same matchups

 

(OLNEY)  in Boys and Girls High School Cross Country yesterday – Olney hosted two teams
*  the Lady Tigers beat Lawrenceville, 21 to 38 with Mt. Carmel finishing 3rd with no team score
    *  Olney’s Holly Stallard won the race, finishing in 1st place
    *  Olney’s Abby Rauch was 3rd, Kylar Craig was 5th, and Aaron Bromm was 7th
    *  Olney’s Jordan Laughlin, Lauren Eagleson, and Alicia Guzman were 9th, 10th, and 11th
    *  Mt. Carmel’s Madeline Jones was 2nd and Lawrenceville’s Healther Holmes was 4th
*  the Tigers beat Lawrenceville in the boys race, 26 to 44 – Mt. Carmel was 3rd with 63 points
    *  Olney’s Matthew DeVenecia won the race, finishing in 1st place – Nathan DeMeyer was 4th
    *  Olney’s Michael DeMeyer, Dalyn Brach, and Silven Stallard were 6th, 7th, and 8th
    *  Olney’s Addison Craig, Jonah Wendling, Tyler Hughes, and Nathaniel Troester were 10th thru 13th

(NEWTON)  in Boys and Girls High School Cross Country – Newton hosted three teams yesterday
*  Charleston won the girls varsity race with 24 points on the Sam Parr State Park course
*  Teutopolis edged out Newton for 2nd by one point, 58 to 59 while Paris finished up in 4th place
    *  Newton’s top runner was Lexie Davidson, finishing in 2nd place overall among the 36 runners
    *  Newton’s Emma Weber was 7th – Hallie Powers and Veronica Ochs finished 13th and 14th
*  Charleston also won the boys varsity race with only 20 points, also at Sam Parr State Park
*  Teutopolis was again 2nd, slipping by the Eagles, 44 to 78 – Paris finished in 4th place at 97
    *  Newton’s top runner was Collin Harris, finishing in 10th place among the 58 total runners
    *  Newton’s Trenton Gonzales was 12th and Crayton Chesnut finished 15th
*  the Eagle runners are back in action Saturday at the Olney Invitational at Olney Central College

 

(OLNEY)  in High School Volleyball last night – Olney dropped two of three at home in Ron Herrin Gym
*  the Lady Tigers won the varsity match over Salem in two games, 25-19, 25-17
    *  Olney’s top scorer was Haley Simpson, plus help from KJ Royse, Taylor Hughes, and Blake Nohren
*  Olney lost the junior varsity match in two games and lost the fresh/soph match in three games
*  the Lady Tigers are back on the ERHS court tomorrow night to host Red Hill in LIC action

 

(NEWTON)  in High School Volleyball last night – Newton swept three matches on the road
*  the Lady Eagles won the varsity match at Charleston in three games, 25-17, 18-25, 25-22
    *  Newton was led by Brooke Koebele, Hannah Litzelman, and Kaitlyn Cohorst
*  Newton won the junior varsity match in three games and the freshman match in two games
*  the Lady Eagles are back on the NCHS court tomorrow night to host Casey-Westfield

*  Teutopolis is still undefeated this fall at 12&0 after beating South Central, 6-5

(NEWTON)  the IESA Junior High Softball Regionals ended yesterday – here’s downstate results
*  Class AA @ Charleston  :  top-seeded Charleston beat 3rd-seeded Teutopolis, 11-1
*  Class AA @ Sullivan  :  top-seeded Mt. Zion beat 3rd-seeded Mattoon, 5-4
*  Class A @ Casey  :  top-seeded Cumberland beat 2nd-seeded Casey-Westfield, 4-2
*  Class A @ St. Elmo  :  top-seeded Windsor beat 3rd-seeded Mulberry Grove, 5-0
all these winners advance to their respective Sectional coming up this Saturday morning

*  the Olney squads competed at the St. Mary’s Invitational down in Centralia

    *  Olney’s top runner was Chase Williams who finished in 2nd place overall
*  the Lady Cubs did not place as a team in the girls varsity 1.8 mile race
    *  Olney’s top runner was Cameron Hough who finished in 3rd place overall
*  the Cubs won the junior varsity boys race, running 1.25 miles
    *  Olney’s top runner was Garrett Wright finishing in 11th place
*  the Lady Cubs finished 3rd in the girls junior varsity race
    *  Olney’s top runner was Hope Laughlin who won the 1.25 mile race in 1st place
*  in the boys open race, consisting on 1.25 miles
    *  Olney’s Trey Nosek won the race by finishing in 1st place

*  the Olney 5th & 6th Graders were on the road and defeated Salem, 28-0
    *  the 5th & 6th Graders return to action this Saturday at Mt. Carmel

    *  the Indians lost to Houston, 3-1  :  the Twins lost to Detroit, 8-6
*  the Cardinals host the Brewers tonight for the first of three against Milwaukee
    *  all the other Midwestern teams are also in action tonight under the lights

 

(NEWTON)  Week Two of the National Football League ended last night
*  the Colts lost a heartbreaker to the visiting Eagles, 30-27
*  Week Three of the NFL will get started this coming Thursday night

 

(OLNEY)  in Boys High School Soccer yesterday – Olney wins again on the road
*  the Tigers beat South Knox, Indiana, 2-0 improving now to 4 wins, only 1 loss, and 3 ties
*  Olney’s goals were both scored by Ben Lynch, both assisted by Derek Walker
*  defensively, Tyler Zuber had 6 saves on goal, giving him 44 saves on the year to date

*  Olney came away from Conley Gymnasium with first place
    *  the Lady Tigers first beat Flora in two games, 25-17, 25-16
    *  the Lady Tigers then beat Salem in two games, 25-17, 25-15
    *  the Lady Tigers then beat North Clay in two games, 25-13, 25-11
    *  the Lady Tigers then beat Cisne in two games, 25-13, 25-19
    *  and the Lady Tigers beat undefeated Marshall in the title match in two games, 25-8, 25-22

*  Olney was 2nd to Olney St. Joe in the girls varsity race, then Robinson, Paris, Allendale, & New Hebron
    *  Cameron Hough won the 2 mile race for the Lady Cubs, while Tara Hughes finished 7th
*  Olney also had the top two runners in each of the junior varsity 1.5 mile races
    *  on the boys side for the Cubs – Barak Berger won followed by Keaton Hancock in 2nd place
    *  on the girls side for the Lady Cubs – Olivia Nix won followed by Morgan Puckett in 2nd place

*  Olney won the 3rd & 4th Grade Game by beating Edwards County, 38-0
*  Olney won the 5th & 6th Grade Game by beating Edwards County, 26-8

*  the Cardinals lost a tough one to the Reds, falling 1-0 as the Redbird offense has again disappeared
    *  elsewhere  :  the Cubs were idle  :  the White Sox slipped by the Athletics, 1-0
    *  Brewers beat Miami, 4-2  :  Royals lost to Boston, 6-3  :  Indians took two from the Twins, 8-2 and 2-0
*  the Cardinals now return home for the first of three this weekend tonight against the Rockies of Colorado
    *  elsewhere  :  the Cubs are in Pittsburgh  :  the White Sox host the Twins  :  the Brewers host the Reds
    *  the Royals host the Red Sox  :  the Indians are in Detroit

 

(OLNEY)  in High School Volleyball last night – Olney swept two LIC matches on the road
*  the Lady Tigers won the varsity match at Lawrenceville in two games, 25-14, 25-22
    *  Olney was led by Tanner Piercefield, Blake Nohren, Courtney Kman, and Taylor Hughes
*  Olney also won the junior varsity match in two games
*  the Lady Tigers are back in Ron Herrin Gym at ERHS next Tuesday against Salem
*  the junior varsity Lady Tigers will play tomorrow in the Fresh/Soph Tournament at Flora

 

(NEWTON)  in High School Volleyball last night – Newton dropped two of three matches on the road
*  the Lady Eagles lost the varsity match at Edwards County in three games, 25-21, 14-25, 19-25
    *  Newton’s top players were Taylor Johnson, Brooke Koebele, Kristen Hardiek, and Kaitlyn Cohorst
*  the Lady Eagles won the junior varsity match in two games, but lost the freshmen match in two
*  Newton is back on the court next Tuesday night traveling up to Baker Gymnasium in Charleston

 

(CLAY CITY)  also in High School Volleyball last night – Clay City dropped two matches on the road
*  the Lady Wolves lost the varsity match at South Central in three games, 25-22, 19-25, 11-25
    *  Clay City’s top players included Hannah Dulaney, Peyton Spitzner, and Megan Hance
*  South Central also won the junior varsity match in two games

 

(OLNEY)  in Boys High School Golf – Olney finishing second among three teams on the road yesterday
*  the Tigers were 2nd to first place Lawrenceville / Red Hill, 150 to 188 – Casey-Westfield was 3rd at 196
*  the Match Medalist was Lawrenceville / Red Hill’s Zach Breault with a one under par 36
*  Olney’s top golfers were Blake Berry (41), Luke Shan (46), Jake Kowa (49), and Randy Goodman (52)
*  the Tigers are back on the links next Monday up at Charleston

*  the Lady Tigers lost over in Frog Island, falling to Flora, 7-2
*  Olney’s lone winner in the singles competition was Nicole Shan, winning the #2 singles match
*  Olney’s lone winning pair in the doubles competition was Jaclyn Shan and Nicole Shan in the #1 match
*  Flora also won all six of the junior varsity matches, including four singles and two doubles
*  at 2&1 in the LIC, now 3&1 overall, the Lady Tigers play tomorrow up at the Mattoon Invitational

*  Newton’s two wins came in the singles competition
    *  Katelyn Michl in the #1 singles match

(NEWTON)  in Boys High School Soccer – Newton picks up a win on the road
*  the Eagles beat Arthur-Lovington, 2-1
*  Newton’s scores came from Daniel McCrillis on a breakaway and Felix Scharnbacher on a free kick
*  it was Newton’s first win of the year, while Arthur-Lovington suffered its first loss of the year
*  the Soccer Eagles are back in action Monday at Effingham St. Anthony

 

(NEWTON)  in Boys and Girls High School Cross Country – Newton won two meets yesterday
*  the Lady Eagles beat Dieterich, North Clay, and Altamont, 26 to 49 to 55 to no score
    *  Newton’s Lexie Davidson and Hallie Powers finished 1st and 2nd, back to back
    *  Newton’s Veronica Ochs was 4th, then Natalie Woods and Maddie Geier in 9th and 10th
    *  Dieterich’s Courtney Flach was 3rd and Melody Mahnke was 5th
*  the Eagles also beat Dieterich, North Clay, and Altamont, 19 to 38 to 86 to no score
    *  Newton’s Collin Harris, Trenton Gonzales, and Crayton Chesnut were 1st, 2nd, and 3rd
    *  Newton’s Vic Sandschafer and Tucker Rieman were 6th and 7th

*  the Junior Eagles beat Casey, 16-2 improving to 4&0 in conference action
*  the Jasper County boys are now 10&5 overall and play today at Effingham St. Anthony

 

(OLNEY)  in Boys and Girls Junior High Cross Country – six area teams ran up at Robinson
*  the St. Joe Lady Wildcats won the girls 1.9 mile race, beating 2nd place Olney, 46 to 58
*  Robinson and Paris Mayo tied for 3rd place, while Allendale was 5th and New Hebron 6th
    *  St. Joe’s Haven Doll finished 3rd individually, while Evelyn Atkins was 5th
*  for the boys, St. Joe finished in 3rd with 77 points, followed by Allendale and New Hebron
*  the Olney Cubs won the 1.9 mile race by beating Robinson, 31 to 54
    *  St. Joe’s top runner was Jarrett Doll in 9th place

 

(OLNEY)  its back to LIC Football tonight with four of this week’s five games scheduled tonight
*  the 1&1 Olney Tigers are on the road to Albion tonight to battle the 0&2 Lions of Edwards County
*  undefeated Casey-Westfield will host the 0&2 Flora Wolves
*  undefeated Robinson is also in Clark County at Marshall to play the 2&0 Lions
*  and it’s winless Red Hill at home in Bridgeport against the 0&2 Paris Tigers
*  the other Week Three LIC game has the Newton Eagles at Lawrenceville tomorrow afternoon at 2:00
*  most all other downstate football teams are in IHSA action tonight under the lights
