* all Redbirds fell to the Pirates, 5-2
* here’s how the other Midwestern MLB teams faired on Friday night
* those that won were the Rangers, Brewers, Astros, Braves, Cubs
* those that lost were the Indians, Royals, White Sox, Twins, Reds, Tigers
the Cardinals are back in Pittsburgh tonight for game two of the weekend series against the Pirates

 

(ROBINSON)  at the 11 Year Old District One Little League Tournament in Robinson
The Championship game began on Thursday and was suspended in the 5th inning due to weather tied at 8.
With the game resuming:
* Olney over Mt. Carmel, 17-14
Congratulations to the Olney 11 Year Olds on winning the District tournament.

 

(FLORA)  at the 10 Year Old District One Little League Tournament in Flora
The Championship game was washed away on Thursday and got underway last night
* Olney over Salem, 12-7
Congratulations to the Olney 10 Year Olds on the District Title last night.

 

(DIETERICH)  at the East Junior Legion District Baseball Tournament last night in Dieterich
In winners bracket game from last night:
* Altamont over Dieterich, 6-2
In an elimination game from last night:
* Effingham over Newton, 11-3
The final three games of the tournament will be held today, with the top two teams advancing to the District Finals

 

(OLNEY)  the 2017 Junior League Baseball Sub State Tournament starts this weekend
that’s a five-team, pool play tournament, up in Orion, in the Quad City Area of northwestern Illinois
* the Olney All Stars will have their first game this evening at 6:30
* then Sunday afternoon at 4:30, Monday evening at 6:00, and Tuesday night at 6:00
the winning team will advance to the Junior League State Tournament

 

(OLNEY)  and the 12 Year Old Little League Baseball Section Tournament will start next week
it’s being hosted by the City of Olney, the Olney Little League, and Olney’s Musgrove Park
* while the tournament begins next Tuesday, the Olney All Stars won’t play until next Wednesday
we’ll take a look at the complete Section bracket on our sports report next Monday morning

 

(OLNEY)  in Summer Swim Team Competition – the Olney Tigersharks are back in the water today
* the Olney swimmers will compete with eight other teams down at the Carmi Invitational
* the Tigersharks’ Kickin’ For Kash fundraiser, rained out Thursday night, is rescheduled for July 25th

the Cardinals begin the 2nd half of their season with a ten game road trip starting tonight in Pittsburgh

 

(ROBINSON)  at the 11 Year Old District One Little League Tournament in Robinson
the championship game was nearly finished before the rains interrupted with the game being suspended
* it’s Olney and Mt. Carmel in an 8-8 tie in the 5th inning
* the game will resume where its at tonight at 6:00 in Robinson
* should Mt. Carmel win, a second championship game would be tonight after the first game ends
the winning team will advance to the 11 Year Old Section or Sub State Tournament

* Dieterich beat Newton, 4-1
* Teutopolis beat Effingham, 4-3
there will be two more games tonight
* a winner’s bracket semi-final between Altamont and Dieterich at 6:00
* an elimination round game in the consolation bracket between Newton and Effingham at 7:30
the Tournament continues with the final three games tomorrow, on Saturday

there was one elimination round game in the consolation bracket
* Salem beat Flora (Clay County), 6-5
the championship game is now set for tonight between Olney and Salem

 

(DIETERICH)  the Junior Legion District Baseball Tournament starts tonight in Dieterich
in tonight’s first two games
* Newton plays Dieterich at 6:00
* Effingham plays Teutopolis at 7:30
the only other team taking part in from Altamont, who received a first round bye
the Tournament continues with two more games tomorrow night and the final three games on Saturday

(OLNEY)  the 8th Annual MS “Join the Movement” event is coming up on Saturday, July 29th, at the Richland County Middle School in Olney – it’s all to create a world free from Multiple Sclerosis – the activities begin with the 25 mile Bike Ride at 7:30 that morning, then the 5K MS Challenge Run at 7:35, the 5K Walk at 7:40, and the MS Walk which is Handicap Accessible starts at 7:45 – while the registration fees are waived for all Richland County youth 18 and under by the Carrie Winter Trust, the registration will be available one hour before each event – printable forms are available online at  www.olneyms.org  or on the “Join the Movement” Facebook page – all event participants and the general public are then invited to the Olney VFW for a meal at 5:00 that evening, followed by a live fundraising auction at 6:00 – the meal is by donation at the door, plus carry-outs will be available – all proceeds to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the local MS Chapter – again, for more details, logon at  www.olneyms.org

* it was the American League beating the National League in ten innings, 2-1

(MT. CARMEL)  the 12 Year Old District One Little League Tournament continued in Mt. Carmel
the championship game was last night with only two of the original six teams remaining
* Olney came out on top by beating Lawrence County, 15-5 in five innings to win the championship
the Olney All Starts now advance to the 12 Year Old Section Tournament

the Olney Tigersharks won the eight team meet by beating out 2nd place Fairfield, 404 to 328
* Harrisburg was 3rd with 294 points, followed by host McLeansboro (293) and Carmi (257)
* the Evansville YMCA was 6th with 254 points, then Mt. Carmel (105) and Mt. Vernon, Indiana (29)
Olney had seven high point winners out of the only 22 Tigersharks that competed in Hamilton County
* Blair Grove in the 8 Year Old Girls Division
* Arianne Leslie in the 9 Year Old Girls Division
* Danielle Brown in the 11 Year Old Girls Division
* Bree Holdren in the 12 Year Old Girls Division
* Jadyn Holubek in the 13 Year Old Girls Division
* Marie Mayorga in the 14 Year Old Girls Division
* Owen Powell in the 16 Year Old Boys Division
the Tigersharks are back in the water tonight with a triangular meet down at Mt. Vernon, Indiana
the Olney swimmers are then back in action this coming Saturday for a 9-team event down in Carmi

 

(EFFINGHAM)  the Senior Legion District Baseball Tournament finished up last night in Effingham
in the first championship game
* Newton lost to Effingham, 18-13
then in the second and final championship game
* Newton beat Effingham, 10-3
Newton Post 20 now advances to the Senior Legion Division Tournament coming up in Highland

 

(MT. CARMEL)  the 12 Year Old District One Little League Tournament continued in Mt. Carmel
the elimination round game that incorrectly finished Sunday was completed last night
* Lawrenceville came from behind to beat Salem, 12-11
another elimination round game was then played last night
* Lawrenceville beat Flora (Clay County), 5-1
now with only two teams left, the championship game is set for tonight
* Olney will play Lawrenceville at 7:00 this evening
* if a second championship game is needed, it would be played tomorrow night
the championship team will advance to the 12 Year Old Section Tournament starting this weekend

(OLNEY)  an Olney Tigersharks fundraiser is this Thursday night from 6:00 until 10:00 at the Musgrove Aquatic Center in Olney – it’s “Kickin-4-Kash” as the Tigershark swimmers will swim laps to raise money that’s been pledged or donated, either for laps swam that night or for a simple flat donation – the 10 year old and under Tigersharks swim from 6:00 to 8:00 while the 11 year old and older Tigersharks swim from 8:00 to 10:00 – all proceeds will help each swimmer with expenses – logon at  www.olneytigersharks.com
