(OLNEY) The Young Leaders of Richland and Clay County Farm Bureaus are offering the second of three agriculture safety courses to area youth tomorrow (2/27/18) night at the Farm Service Facility at the east edge of Flora, starting at 6:30. Area students are encouraged to attend the free event to learn more about safety issues around the farm. (NEWTON) The Winter Jasper County Solid Waste Program continues now thru the end of March. The mid-week dumpster will be at the Yale location this Wednesday morning, February 28, from 7:30 until 12:00, or if the dumpster is filled before 10:30, another dumpster will be brought to that location this Wednesday. The Newton / Jasper County Highway Garage site will be open Saturday from 7:00 to 3:30 accepting appliances (with requirements) plus the county’s drop-off recycling container is also available.
(OLNEY/NEWTON) With an urgent call for all eligible blood donors to get out and give blood, here’s the list of upcoming area blood drives : Wednesday at the Blood Donation Center in Effingham from 12:15 to 7:15 : Thursday at the Blood Donation Center in Effingham from 12:15 to 6:45 : Friday at the Salem High School from 8:15 to 2:00 : all blood types and platelets are needed to replenish low area supplies.
It’s the Annual St. Mary’s Brunch coming up this Sunday (3/4/18) morning at St. Mary’s Parish Center in Ste. Marie, with serving from 8:00 to 12:00 noon. The great menu includes scrambled eggs, biscuits & gravy, sausage links & ham, plus breads, fruit, and drinks. The tickets will be on sale at the door priced at $7 for adults, $3 for children age 4 to 10, and free for children 3 and under. A baked sale will also be held sponsored by the St. Mary’s Youth Group. All ages are welcome out Sunday morning to Ste. Marie.
The Holy Cross Parish Center in Wendelin will host a Wine Tasting event this Saturday night, March 3, from 6:00 to 10:30. While no one under the age of 21 years old will be admitted, five regional vineyards will be on hand serving their products. The $10 admission includes a glass, the tastings, and appetizers, plus domestic beer will also be available of purchase and live music will be provided. Childcare will also be available by the CYM in the rectory basement for donations. All are invited to Wendelin Saturday night.
A fundraising “Pie Auction” is coming this Saturday evening, March 3, at the Lions Club Building in Noble as “Team Shelley” raises money for the 2018 “Join The Movement” MS Walk/Run. It all starts with a barbecue pulled pork meal at 5:00, all by donations at the door, then the pie auction begins at 7:00. There will also be raffle baskets with tickets on sale that evening, six for $5 or one for $1. All are invited to Noble Saturday night.
Hospice of Southeastern Illinois has a Volunteer Training later this week in the lower level conference room at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney. The two day training will run from 9:00 to 3:00 both days, this coming Thursday and Friday, March 1 and 2. Those interested should plan to attend both days of training. The Claremont Bonpas Fire District will host another Friday night all-you-can-eat Lenten meal this weekend at the Claremont Fire House, with serving from 4:30 to 7:00. The menu includes fish, plus three buffet tables full of food. Tickets at the door, children 5 and under free. All to help purchase needed firefighting equipment.
It’s another Olney Knights of Columbus Friday night “fish fry” this weekend at the Olney City Park Community Building, with serving from 5:00 until 7:00. Carry-outs will be available. Proceeds from this week’s Friday night “fish fry” will benefit the Knights of Columbus Senior Scholarships presented at Richland County High School in May.
The Steber Family Farms Relay For Life team has a fundraiser at Monical’s Pizza today through tonight, on this February 26. Customers can fill out a fundraising form before they pay and 20% of their receipt will be donated to the local fight against cancer.
