The Olney Public Library will host an Usborne Books & More “Book Fair” March 7-13 during regular business hours. Titles available range from board books to older chapter books, all of which are perfect for those Easter Baskets. Also a free movie matinee is scheduled for Saturday afternoon, March 10, at 2:00.
A fundraising “Pie Auction” is coming this Saturday evening, March 3, at the Lions Club Building in Noble as “Team Shelley” raises money for the 2018 “Join The Movement” MS Walk/Run. It all starts with a barbecue pulled pork meal at 5:00, all by donations at the door, then the pie auction begins at 7:00. There will also be raffle baskets with tickets on sale that evening, six for $5 or one for $1. All are invited.
The Richland County Farm Bureau has a pallet sign painting party this Saturday afternoon at 2:00 at The Holiday in Olney with all the proceeds to benefit the Richland County Ag in the Classroom program. The signs, stencils, paint, and instruction is all provided within the fee. The Olney American Legion Post #30 will have its first Friday of the month “fish fry” this weekend with serving from 5:30 until it’s all gone. That’s at 227 East Main Street in Olney with additional parking available on Market Street. Only $6 per person at the door. All are invited to help our local Veterans.
Hospice of Southeastern Illinois has a Volunteer Training later this week in the lower level conference room at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney. The two day training will run from 9:00 to 3:00 both days, this coming Thursday & Friday, March 1 & 2. Those interested should plan to attend both days of training. The Richland County Elementary School 1st grade classes will perform their music program entitled “Pirates Are We” this Thursday and Friday mornings at 10:00 in the RCES dining hall. The classes of teachers Givens, Seiler, and Volk will perform Thursday while the classes of teachers Baker, Bettis, and Prevo will perform Friday. All family and the public are invited to one or both of the performances.
The American Legion Jasper Post #20 in Newton will host its monthly pork loin dinner this Thursday night, with serving to start at 6:00. A great meal with dessert and drink included. The public is welcome.
A note from the City of Olney. Beginning this Thursday, March 1, the Olney Brush Dump will be opened four days a week again. That’s from 10:00 to 4:00 on Monday, Thursdays, Fridays, & Saturdays.
