(CHICAGO) Governor Bruce Rauner has vetoed legislation that would require gun retailers to be licensed by the state. The Governor says Illinois gun dealers are already licensed by the federal government and that some 2,700 small businesses around the state would be jeopardized by the unnecessary new layer of state regulations. The bill’s sponsor says he plans to attempt an override within the Illinois General Assembly.
(SPRINGFIELD) Fairgoers should get ready to rock at the Illinois State Fair on Saturday, August 11. The bands, Halestorm and Mastodon will be co-headlining on the Grandstand stage that night. An opening act will be announced later. Tickets for this show will go on sale later this spring. Two other Grandstand acts were announced last month, both of which are country musicians. (SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Natural Resources Mason State Nursery has developed a seed mix of Illinois native forbs and grasses that is suitable for use in developing a monarch / pollinator habitat. One packet of these seeds will cover about one-fifth of an acre with the cost at $40 per packet, plus shipping and handling. The state nursery also has Illinois native plants available for sale in containers, however the container plants must be picked up at the Mason State Nursery in Topeka, Illinois.
