(NEWTON) While the Jasper County Solid Waste Program for the winter months ends tomorrow, the spring through fall, eight-month program will begin next week. The Newton site, located at the County Highway Building northeast of Newton, is open Saturdays, from 7:00 to 3:30, and is the only site that will accept appliances in a separate dumpster that have had their compressors removed and Freon lines opened. The Newton site also has a dumpster for metal only, plus a drop-off recycle container for aluminum cans, clear glass bottles, plastic, milk jugs, plastic soap jugs, and plastic soda bottles. However, no yard waste, no tires, and no electronic items are accepted. As far as the other county-wide dumpsters are concerned, they’ll be located at the rotating sites on specific weekday mornings from 7:30 until 12:00 noon. Next week’s locations are at the Wheeler site on Tuesday (4/3/18), the West Liberty site on Wednesday (4/4/18), and the Rose Hill site on Thursday (4/5/18). If any questions, call the Department Office at 618-783-2915.
