(EFFINGHAM) The 20th Anniversary Lake Sara Dam Run is this morning near Effingham, raising funds to benefit Special Olympics Illinois. Registration for the 5K or 8 Mile course is this morning from 8:00 to 9:45 at the Pavilion by the Lake Sara Dam. There’ll be free post-race food for those taking part, including pizza, subs, fruit, bagels, pork burgers, dilly bars, and more. Non-participants can eat for a $5 donation. (OLNEY/NEWTON) With an American Red Cross “urgent call” in place for all eligible blood donors to get out and give blood, here’s some upcoming blood drives : today at the Blood Donation Center in Effingham from 7:45 to 2:15 : tomorrow morning at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church north of Dieterich from 8:00 to 12:00 : and drives next week in Mattoon, Robinson, Dieterich, Newton, Oblong, & Olney : all blood types and platelets are very much needed to help replenish low regional and area blood supplies.
(NEWTON) The Jasper County Solid Waste Program is continuing today as the Newton site at the County Highway Building northeast of Newton is open from now until 3:30 this afternoon. The weekday morning dumpsters will be available next week from 7:30 to 12:00 noon each day. That’s next Tuesday (4/10/18) at the Smallwood site, next Wednesday (4/11/18) at the Gila site, and next Thursday (4/12/18) at the Ste. Marie site. The Newton site, at the County Highway Garage Building, is open each Saturday.
(OLNEY) Here’s an entertainment note that our friend The Singing Blacksmith, Bryan Headley of West Salem, will be re-appearing on the Rural Heritage program on RFD-TV. Bryan’s “Forging A Traditional Iron Rose” show, which first aired earlier this week, will re-air later today at 2:00 this afternoon. Bryan’s final show “Forging A Horseshoe Heart” will air April 24 and again April 28. The RFD-TV Network can be found on Direct TV Channels 345 and 231, and on Dish Network.
