(LOUISVILLE) The investigation is continuing into a single vehicle traffic crash that occurred at 7:04 last night (Tuesday) on U.S. Route 45, just north of the Hickory Hill Road intersection, three miles south of Louisville. The State Police reports that 67 year old William J. Viehmeyer of Clay City was northbound when he lost control of his SUV while attempted to pass another northbound vehicle. Viehmeyer’s vehicle ran off the highway and overturned multiple times, ejecting the driver and a passenger, 43 year old Randall R. Helms, Jr. of Louisville. Viehmeyer was pronounced deceased at the scene while Helms was airlifted from the scene to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. U.S. Route 45 was closed with traffic rerouted for nearly five hours. Helms was ticketed for failure to wear a seat belt. The Illinois State Police were assisted at the scene by rescue personnel from both Louisville and Flora, plus the Clay County Sheriff’s Department.
