With an American Red Cross “urgent call” in place for all eligible blood donors to get out and give blood, here’s some upcoming blood drives : today and tomorrow at the Blood Donation Center in Effingham, both days from 7:45 to 2:15 : Sunday morning at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham from 8:00 to 12:00 : next Tuesday at the Altamont High School from 8:15 to 1:45 : all blood types and platelets are very much needed to help replenish low area and Midwestern blood supplies.
The Spring Festival is this weekend at Vahling Vineyards, located just north of Effingham. While wine and various other products will be available for purchase, including yard ornaments, candles, and more, they’ll also be serving brick oven pizza, hamburgers, and more. That’s both tomorrow and Sunday.
Here’s an entertainment note that our friend The Singing Blacksmith, Bryan Headley of West Salem, will have his final most recent appearance on the Rural Heritage program on RFD-TV tomorrow. The St. Thomas Gigantic Garage Sale continues today at the Parish Center in Newton. That’s from 8:00 to 6:00 today, then wrapping up tomorrow morning from 8:00 to 11:00. All are encouraged to stop by to check it out. There’s something for everyone at the Gigantic Garage Sale in Newton.
The Trinity Preschool will have a fundraising cookout tomorrow at Rural King in Olney with serving from 10:00 until 2:00. They’ll have pork burgers, bratwurst, hot dogs, chips, soda, water, and cookies. All proceeds will help fund Trinity Preschool and Mom’s Morning Out at Trinity Lutheran Church in Olney.
It’s a fundraising Olney Tiger Football Dinner and Auction coming up tonight at the Olney VFW. The pulled pork sandwich, two sides, and dessert dinner will be served from 5:00 to 8:30 with silent auction bids accepted from 5:00 until 8:30. Some of the items available for the silent auction are a framed Olney Tiger camo jersey, a Tiger fire pit, a framed metal Tiger head, OTF bag boards, decorated trash cans, and more. Tickets at the door or in advance from Tiger Coach Matt Music. That’s all coming up tonight at the Olney VFW. All proceeds to benefit Olney Tiger Football at RCHS.
A fundraiser to help with Fred White’s medical expenses will be held tonight at the Lawrence County 4-H Building along U.S. Route 50 between Sumner and Bridgeport with serving from 4:00 to 8:00. All for a free will donation at the door, they’ll be serving chili, vegetable soup, and homemade desserts, plus a live auction at 6:30 and music from Sinner’s Bridge and the Ash Band. All are invited.
