(OLNEY/NEWTON) This is the National Day of Prayer with this year’s 2018 theme, “Pray for America – UNITY” which is based upon scripture from Ephesians 4:3 in the Bible that challenges everyone to mobilize unified public prayer for America, “Making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” The National Day of Prayer was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of Congress. Then in 1988, the law was unanimously amended by both the House and Senate and signed into law by then President Ronald Reagan designating the first Thursday of May as a day of national prayer. It’s the hope that all individuals, churches, and spiritual leaders in America will come together at some point during this May 3rd to pray for our world, our country, our states, our counties, our cities, and everything local.
(NEWTON) On this 2018 National Day of Prayer, the churches of Jasper County are planning to gather on the Jasper County Courthouse Lawn to pray from 12:00 noon until 1:00. The public is welcomed and encouraged to attend. In the case of rain, the event will be held at the Central Christian Church in Newton, just one block south of the square.
