(OLNEY/NEWTON) Here’s a reminder of what is actually be celebrated on Monday. Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who have died while serving in the United States military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings, and participating in parades and programs. We pray that you and your family take some time out of your holiday weekend to remember those that gave the ultimate sacrifice, their lives, to protect the freedoms we enjoy throughout America.
