(NEWTON) Area residents are encouraged to kickoff summer 2018 with this weekend’s Summerfest in downtown Newton, on the square. The activities get started this coming Friday, June 1, with the Jasper County Chamber’s homemade frozen custard booth with serving from 11:00 until 9:00, plus hayrides provided by the Jasper County Antique Tractor & Machinery Club from 4:00 until 7:30 followed by a Glow Parade at 8:30 with lineup at the NCHS south parking lot at 7:30. Then a full day of activities will follow on Saturday with biscuits & gravy breakfast at the Masonic Lodge from 5:30 to 10:30 and a pancakes & ham breakfast at the First Presbyterian Church from 6:00 to 10:00. Then the Summerfest Party starts at 11:00 with a fashion show at 12 noon, a lemonade stand contest at 4:00, the BBQ judging at 4:00, and a Lip Sync contest at 5:30, not to mention all the great food and more.
