(NEWTON) It’s coming up three weeks from this Saturday, June 23. The 16th Annual Nick’s Race, to once again be held at Sam Parr State Park, northeast of Newton. While the effort is used to raise funds for the Newton Community High School Drumline, Cross Country program, and various scholarships, it’s really an event more about raising awareness about organ donation. In partnership with the Newton Rotary Club, it’s a time for runners, walkers, and others to all come together for a great cause in a picture perfect setting. The registration and packet pickup begins at 7:15 that morning, with the 2.85 mile run to start at 8:30 and the walk to follow at 8:40. The NCHS Drumline performs at 9:00 with the race results at 9:20, the awards ceremony at 9:45, and the raffle results and closing comments to follow. It’s a $20 cost for those that signup by June 18, then $25 after that Monday, plus the first 100 registered participants get a free race t-shirt and there are seven different age divisions for both male and female. Online registration is available at www.getmeregistered.com/NicksRace. If questions, go online at firstname.lastname@example.org.
