(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois House yesterday voted to approve the $38.5 billion state budget for the year that begins July 1st. The lopsided 97 to 14 vote followed Wednesday night’s overwhelming approval in the State Senate. The proposal now goes to Governor Bruce Rauner who said in a statement yesterday that he’ll “be taking action quickly to enact the Fiscal Year 19 budget into law.” The bipartisan cooperation on this year’s budget is applauded considering the sharp contrast that’s ruled Springfield the past three years.
(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Public Health has confirmed the first mosquitoes to test positive for West Nile Virus in Illinois for 2018, coming in the suburban communities of Glenview and Morton Grove. Last year’s first positive result for West Nile Virus came a week earlier, May 23 and 24, in the Metro East area, in Madison County. No human cases of West Nile have been reported so far this year. Those outdoors are reminded to practice the three R’s, Reduce, Repel, and Report.
