(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Agriculture is wrapping up its statewide Pork Tour today as those taking part will attend the World Pork Expo in Des Moines, Iowa. The 43 international buyers will be exposed today to all aspects of the pork industry, from feed types to technology to research. The three day tour kicked off this past Monday by touring a downstate family hog farm near Red Bud, plus other stops at the GSI Group in Taylorville and the U of I College of ACES in Champaign. Yesterday’s stops were at the Chicago Board of Trade and at animal health facility in Vernon Hills. Since it began, the Illinois Pork Tour has generated over $13 million in sales for participating Illinois agribusinesses. The buyers come from various countries including China, Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Mexico, Ecuador, Columbia, and Myanmar.
