(NEWTON) The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the apparent drowning of a Montrose man this past Wednesday on Newton Lake. It was approximately at 12:00 noon that the Sheriff’s Office was notified of an abandoned boat floating on the lake and upon investigation, it was suspected that the owner went overboard. Then at 4:10 later that afternoon, the body of 74 year old Arthur Golden was recovered by emergency personnel, including the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, the Wade Fire Protection District, the Jasper County EMA, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department, and the Jasper County Ambulance Service. Jasper County Coroner Jason Meyer pronounced Mr. Golden dead at the scene. No foul play is suspected as the investigation continues by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department in Newton.
