(SPRINGFIELD) In yesterday’s USDA Crop Report, fieldwork continued over the past week with rains in some parts of Illinois as there were 5.3 days, on average, suitable for fieldwork up until this past Sunday. Last week’s average statewide temperature was 72.7 degrees, 3.0 degrees above normal. The state’s average precipitation from last week was 1.17 inches, nearly three tenths of an inch (0.28) above normal. The statewide corn and soybean crops are generally in mostly good to excellent conditions with 96% of the soybeans and 86% of the sorghum planted as of Sunday around the state. Illinois’ winter wheat crop is still mostly in good condition with about 1% of the state’s wheat crop harvested : farmers in our ten county region report nearly all the crops have been planted other than the intended double-cropping expected with soybeans in wheat after the harvest. Farmers are reminded to think “safety first” while working outdoors.
