(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Agriculture is partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Capital Development Board to resurface three main roads on the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield. Starting this week, Main Street from the Main Gate to Illinois Avenue, Central Avenue from Main Street to 8th Street, and Illinois Avenue from East of Main Street to the northwest side of the Grandstand will all be milled and resurfaced before the start of the 2018 State Fair. The projected $30 million project is expected to be completed in four weeks. The Fair runs August 9th – 19th next month.
(SPRINGFIELD) The Governor’s Office of the Illinois Bicentennial and the Serve Illinois Commission on Volunteerism & Community Service (Serve Illinois) are now accepting applications for the Governor’s Hometown Awards program, which gives formal recognition to those who contributed to their community’s quality of life through projects that have strong volunteer support, meet a need, and make a definitive impact. Intertested townships, villages, cities, and counties can apply now through August 1, 2018, for projects that use volunteers in their communities for the period of January 1, 2017 through December 31, 2017.
