(NEWTON/OLNEY) Authorities are warning area residents of another scam that’s still circulating in our downstate region. Telephone calls are being received and scammers themselves posing as workers claiming to be with a local utility company are demanding payments on what they say is a delinquent account and threatening either jail time or service disconnect if not immediately paid. Remember, local utility companies do not make such calls or visits from workers. Residents are reminded to never make such an immediate payment and to never give out personal credit card or bank account information to anyone. If any questions, contact your utility company directly to check the status of your account or for more details.
