(SPRINGFIELD) The 2018 Illinois State Fair continues today in Springfield as this Saturday is Kids Day on the fairgrounds when all children age 12 and under are admitted free. There are several contests for the children & adults alike, including the Decorated Diaper, Fiddle & Banjo, Ponytail, and many more, plus it’s Lawnmower Racing at 4:00 and 7:00 in the Arena & tonight’s Grandstand performances include Halestorm & Mastodon with New Year’s Day at 7:30. Tomorrow is Veterans Day and Gold Star Family Day on the fairgrounds when all Veterans and their immediate families are admitted to the fairgrounds free. Sunday night’s Grandstand event at 8:00 features the classic rock group Foreigner, with Joan Jett & the Blackhearts. Monday is Senior and Scout Day on the fairgrounds when all fair visitors age 60 and older are admitted free. There will be a draft horse show, the ITPA truck & tractor pulls at 7:30 in the Arena, plus the Dueling Pianos on stage at the Grandstand Monday night at 8:00. Next Tuesday is Agriculture Day with plenty of livestock shows and the Governor’s Sale of Champions, plus more truck & tractor pulls that night at 7:30 in the Arena and on stage Tuesday night is country music artist Luke Combs with Ashley McBryde at 8:00 There are also plenty of daily events including special music, food, carnival rides, and other activities, plus Conservation World is open each day from 10:00 to 7:00. (NEWTON/OLNEY) Here’s a couple of State DNR reminders to those in the outdoors : less than a week remains for applications to be accepted for the third lottery drawing for 2018 firearm and muzzleloader deer permits – that deadline is next Friday, August 17 : and hunters can apply now through August 20 for the second lottery for 2018 Illinois fall wild turkey shotgun season permits with the season dates set for October 20 through 28 : for all things outdoors in Illinois, go to the State DNR website, at www.dnr.illinois.gov.
