(CHICAGO) The Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) is launching new features on its Helpline for Opioids & Other Substances. The Helpline provides 24-hour access to individuals experiencing opioid use disorders, their families, and anyone affected by the disease. With more than 5,000 people have called the Helpline since it started last December and with three new features being added, Helpline Specialists will be equipped to better serve callers and increase treatment across the state. The IDHS has also launched the website, www.HelplineIL.org giving those affected by opioid and other substance use disorders an online option to access treatment. The Helpline number is 1-833-2FINDHELP, that’s 1-833-234-6343.
(SPRINGFIELD) During Veteran’s Day this past Sunday at the Illinois State Fair, Governor Bruce Rauner signed four bills into law, three of which deal with Veterans’ issues. One bill will streamline Veteran identification services to make it easier for homeless Veterans to access much needed medical benefits. Another law will make November 4th GI Bill of Rights Day in Illinois to pay tribute to the 1944 landmark legislation that provided benefits to World War II Veterans. Another law will allow combat Veterans and Veterans who earned the Southeast Asia Service Medal during Operation Desert Storm to have the feat reflected on their auto license plates. And the fourth law will allow the National Guard Construction Fund to be used for all construction costs throughout Illinois, including maintenance and repair work or projects.

Thursday is Democrat Day on the fairgrounds with more livestock shows and on stage that night it’s Thomas Rhett with Danielle Bradberry at 8:00. Friday is First Responder Day when all police officers, firefighters, and EMT’s who show their badge will be admitted free, plus on stage Friday night at 8:00 it’s country music star Brett Eldredge, an Illinois native from Paris. The Fair continues through this Sunday. Also, plenty of daily events including special music, food, carnival rides, ag tours, and more, plus Conservation World each day from 10:00 to 7:00.
