(OLNEY) The Richland County and Lawrence County Extension, along with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources are offering a Hunter Education Class during the last week of August for local youth wanting to secure a hunting license. It’s Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, August 27, 28, and 29 from 6:00 to 9:30 each night at the Lawrence County Fairground Building along Route 50 between Sumner and Bridgeport. While the class size will be limited to the first 100 registered youth, participants must attend all three sessions and there in no cost. The registration begins at 5:30 each evening. The youth taking part should be 10 years old but it is the policy of IDNR that youth under the age of 10 must be accompanied to, and during, the safety education courses by an adult or guardian at least 16 years old. The 10 hour course includes instruction in wildlife management, firearms safety, hunter ethics, game identification, first aid, and hunting regulations.
