(OLNEY/NEWTON) In yesterday’s USDA Farm Report, there were 5.4 days suitable on average for fieldwork around Illinois last week. The statewide average temperature was 75.4 degrees, 1.4 degrees above the normal. Last week’s precipitation around the state averaged 1.16 inches, three tenths (0.30) of an inch above normal. As of Sunday, 94% of the state’s corn crop was in the dough stage with 63% dented. 95% of the soybeans were setting pods with 3% now coloring. 88% of the sorghum crop is headed out. All three crops statewide were rated from 65% to 80% good to excellent. Farmers in our ten county area report much the same as the local crops continue to progress and mature, especially with the recent rains. Farmers are reminded to continue thinking “safety first” as the 2018 fall harvest is rapidly approaching in Illinois.
