(EFFINGHAM) The investigation continues into a two vehicle crash that occurred at 1:35 early Saturday morning on Interstate 57 north of Effingham. The Illinois State Police report that 41 year old Terrell Marshawn Ross from Hopkins, South Carolina, was southbound on I-57, when his semi-truck trailer came up from the rear and ran into a southbound passenger van driven by 40 year old Marchelle M. Collins from Chicago. One of the six passengers in the van, 74 year old Mary J. Gates from Calumet City was airlifted to Carle Hospital in Urbana where she was pronounced deceased. Two other passengers, a 9 year old juvenile from Chicago and 18 year old Michael M. Anderson from Chicago, were also taken to Carle Hospital in Urbana. The three remaining passengers, 57 year old Willie Mae Butler, 39 year old Olivia M. Collins, and an 11 year old juvenile, all from Chicago, were taken to St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham. Both drivers were no seriously injured. Ross was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
