(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois State Police is reminding motorists to make safety their “number one” priority while driving. Troopers are out continuing their focus on the primary factors that contribute to fatal traffic crashes, including distracted driving (texting while driving), not wearing seat belts, and driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. State Troopers and other local law enforcement agencies are out in extra force with roadside safety checks and more through the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign. Make sure you obey all “rules of the road” while traveling through Illinois this holiday weekend.

(NEWTON/OLNEY) For those of you out there wondering what Labor Day is all about. Well it’s a day in America set aside to honor the contributions and achievements of all workers in the United States, a day that is traditionally observed on the first Monday in September. Labor Day was created by the labor movement in the late 19th century and became an official federal holiday way back in 1894. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions that workers in all states have made and are making to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our United States of America. Labor Day also symbolizes the end of summer for many Americans and is celebrated with cookouts, parades, many athletic events, and much more.
