(SPRINGFIELD) In an effort to prevent Hepatitis A outbreaks in Illinois, the State Department of Public Health (IDPH) is working with almost two dozen local health departments around the state to make Hepatitis A vaccine more readily available. States across the country, including states bordering Illinois, have been seeing Hepatitis A outbreaks, although there are no current outbreaks in Illinois at this time. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports from January 2017 to April 2018 there have been more than 2,500 cases of Hepatitis A infections from multiple states. Men who have sex with men, people who use drugs, and those who do not have a home should check with their nearest health department about a free or reduced cost Hepatitis A vaccine. (SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Judges Association is introducing a schools program to help young people learn how to interact with police. Called the “Your Future, Your Choice” program, it includes video clips from law enforcement officials and a man who went to prison at the age of 15 for up to 25 years. The program will also feature local judges visiting schools to lead discussions on “how being with the wrong people can land you in jail.” The program also explains in simple terms the state’s complex court system.
(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) has scheduled a series of public meetings to provide information about Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD), its effect on future deer populations, and IDNR efforts to control the disease. IDNR staff at these meetings will be available to answer questions about the disease and all landowners, hunters, and concerned citizens are encouraged to attend. The six meetings will be held September 18 through October 2 mostly in the areas of the state most affected by CWD. The two downstate meetings will be in Chester and Sparta with the upstate meetings in Oregon, Morris, Big Rock, and Orangeville. For more information, go online at www.dnr.illinois.gov.
