(OLNEY/NEWTON) The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch in effect for Richland, Jasper, and most all surrounding counties (mostly to the north) now through Sunday morning. Periods of rain are expected to develop today and continue on-and-off through Saturday night. While heavier amounts are anticipated along and north of Interstate 70, the U.S. Route 50 corridor will likely receive 2 to 4, possibly as high as 6 inches in some locations. It’s all in response to the remnants of Tropical Storm Gordon teaming up with an old frontal boundary that’s stalled out over our downstate region. The rain should end and clear out of our area on Sunday with dry and cooler air in place for the first half of next week. But until then, be alert to the threat of flooding. Stay tuned to a NOAA Weather Alert Radio for weather updates and further details.
