(SPRINGFIELD) Governor Bruce Rauner announced yesterday that Illinois is prepared to provide personnel and other support to states impacted by Hurricane Florence. This includes Illinois Army National Guard soldiers and helicopters that have already deployed to support relief efforts in North Carolina for up to ten days with all costs paid for by the Tar Heel state. Other soldiers and equipment are standing by. Requests for assistance are coordinated through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), a mutual aid agreement that allows states to request assistance from other states during emergencies.
(SPRINGFIELD) The Illinois EPA has announced it has scheduled household hazardous waste collections for the fall of 2018. The State EPA collections are held to encourage residents to safely dispose of unused or leftover household products commonly found in homes. Five collection sites are confirmed for the fall with details for additional sites currently being finalized, to be announced later. The downstate one day collections will be September 29 in Danville and October 6 in Vandalia. The other sites are in Princeton, Oswego, and Decatur. For a complete list of household hazardous wastes that are and are not accepted, go to the State EPA website online, at www.epa.illinois.gov. More details are also available at that website.
